How to Pair BGLH Marketplace Whipped Butter With Other Products to Maximize Hair Softness, Strength and Moisture

I love discussing with customers how multi-use our whipped butters are. And I’ve written a lot about it here on the shop blog (click the title to be taken to the article.)

But sometimes it can be overwhelming and you wonder, where exactly do I start?

Using my own hair regimen as an example, I’m going to give you 5 ways to pair BGLH Marketplace whipped butters with other products to bring out the best in your best hair. You don’t have to use these exact products, anything similar will do.

For Hair Softening and Daily Styling — Pair BGLH Marketplace Whipped Butter with a water and/or aloe-based spritz like Oyin Juices and Berries
Water-based spritzes and whipped butter go together perfectly. The spritz infuses moisture and the butter seals it in while adding incredible softness. If I am wearing my hair loose I spray Oyin Juices and Berries and then apply Mango Cocoa Blended Butter to refresh my fro or bun. Because BGLH Marketplace butters are so light and absorbent, they can be applied regularly without buildup.

Before combing or styling my kids’ hair, I apply Juices and Berries then Mango Cocoa Blended Butter to immediately soften the strands and make detangling and smoothing way easier and faster.

For Wash and Go’s — Pair BGLH Marketplace Whipped Butter With a moisturizing deep conditioner like Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Treatment Masque

Our whipped butters won’t force definition into your hair, they will gently define the curls and coils you already have. Like this,

Me last Fall.

Start with a really deeply moisturizing conditioner that has lots of slip, gives you really good definition and leaves your hair soft. Detangle in the shower, rinse your hair and dry it until it is damp, but not dripping. (NOTE: Some people prefer leaving the conditioner in their hair, and adding the butter on top! This will give you an extra boost of moisture.) Rake BGLH Marketplace whipped butter through.

If your hair is thick, try a heavier butter like Vanilla Whipped Shea. If you have fine hair like me, try a lighter blend like Mango Cocoa Blended Butter or Cocoa Shea Blended Butter. If you rinsed out the conditioner, your hair might still be tight from having been stripped of natural oils. Don’t worry! Over the next couple days, spritz with a water based moisturizer and watch your strands relax into their pattern and increase in volume. If you leave the conditioner in and put the butter on top, this likely won’t be a problem. To keep your wash and go overnight, try the pineapple method as shown in the video below.

For Hair Strength — Pair BGLH Marketplace Whipped Butter with a protein conditioner like Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor
I have been using Aphogee regularly for years now. It is a protein conditioner designed to strengthen and protect hair against heat and chemical damage. While I don’t relax or texturize my hair I do get it blown out at the salon about once a month, so this helps to fortify it and keep it from thinning out due to the heat. I do protein treatments once or two times a month, followed up with a moisturizing conditioner. Afterwards I rake any BGLH Marketplace whipped butter I have on hand through my hair. Whipped butter adds pliability to the strands which strengthen them and prevent breakage. It is the perfect follow up to a protein treatment.

For Scalp Relief — Pair BGLH Marketplace Whipped Butter with African Black Soap
Black soap’s anti-inflammatory benefits provide relief for itchy and inflamed scalps. Follow up by massaging BGLH Marketplace whipped butter — which also have anti-inflammatory properties — on your scalp.

For Deep Moisture — Repeat #2
The Wash and Go regimen can double as a deep moisture regimen! Try it if your hair is dry (the version where you leave the conditioner in and put the butter on top), but instead of wearing your curls out, braid or twist them up and wrap them overnight. You will wake up to smooth, soft, moisturized hair.
