Tired of Hair Products That Don’t Really Work?

I started BGLH Marketplace out of my career as a natural hair blogger. On my site I covered the launches of many natural hair product lines, and while it was exciting to see more businesses catering to textured hair I noticed two huge gaps in the market.

1. Natural hair products were segmented for particular uses (deep condition, leave in, gel, etc) but very few were all-purpose.

Because natural hair products are divided up for different uses you wind up having to buy a bunch. But I don’t think it has to be this way.

I remember as a girl my mother keeping a sea green bottle of Ultra Sheen on her dresser. She used it for everything from braiding to oiling my scalp to slicking down my edges. 2. The effectiveness of many natural hair products seemed to decrease as a person’s hair became more textured.

My curls are 4B/4C. This means that, according to the hair typing system, they are incredibly tight. They pull to my scalp and aren’t prone to definition. For years I watched women with looser curls glide natural hair products through their tresses and get immediate shine, softness and definition. Meanwhile the same products had little effect on my tight curls and sometimes even made them worse.

I  formulated my butters with ingredients that I knew would work well on my tight curls. For the first time in my life I have a product that imparts softness and a gentle stretch, can give me light definition for wash and go’s, or a stronger definition for twist outs and braid outs.
