  1. Thanks a lot for sharing this with all people you actually recognize what you are speaking about! Bookmarked. Kindly also talk over with my website =). We can have a link exchange contract among us

  2. My Walgreens haul revealed that my hair welcomes quality bargain products. I tried the TRESEmee Naturals Vibrantly Smooth and the TRESEmee Moisture Rich conditioners. I LOVE both of these conditioners. The Vibrantly Smooth conditioner has coconut and jojoba oils in it. The Moisture Rich conditioner has Almond and Hazlenut oils. The GIGANTIC bottle is a great buy at the Walgreens–so economical! My hair just curls right up and it feel so incredibly soft after I rinse.

Another great buy is Africa’s Best Oil. I heart this stuff!! It is loaded with great oils mixed together. I use it as a prepoo and my hair (sighs) it feels so good. I have seborrhea dermatitis, so I was ecstatic to find that my scalp did not have an allergic reaction. This oil worked really well for me and my scalp DOES NOT itch anymore.

  3. I’ve tried two products from the brand Aphogee:Two-Step Protein Treatment and Balancing Moisturizer.
The second one is my favorite,it’s a conditioner that you put on my hair for 5 to 10 minutes then rinse with warm water, leaves your hair soft and silky, better if you have soft curly hair like me.

  4. I HAVE A SHORT NATURAL CUT I USE CONDITON TO CURL IT WITH IT LOOK NICE FOR ABOUT 4 5 HR THEN IT BECOMES DRY WHAT SHOULD I USE TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING DRY I ALSO WANT MORE SHINE
I USE CAROL BUTTER BUT GETS DRY ALSO

  5. I tried Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue Styling Creme. And it didnt do anything but set there. Then I used Kinky kurly custard and knot today leave in. I had been avoiding it because of what i had heard about but it has worked pretty well. i had to learn to use the custard sparingly.

I also used Carol’s daughters black Vanilla Creme conditioner(not the spray) and it was fantastic. I also used the monoi conditioner it was okay but I really liked the shampoo.

  6. I am one month and a half into a TWA w/type 4C hair so experimenting is a large part of my regimen. I started w/Cantu but it did not moisturize my hair and esp. my ends well enough. Went to “As I Am” products which were good the curl solution alittle stiff and sticky but too expensive for me as well. I just tried the “Shea Moisture” line was I LOVE. the leave-in was moisturizing by itself,my ends look and feel like my 3 yr old neice’s hair. Since I am thin on the top and sides I was looking for something w/volume control and tried their thickening milk w/the curl smoothie AWESOME. My twists lasted an entire week. I misted w/water in the A.M. coated w/the thickening milk and was done. Oh forgot I sprayed lastly with the thickening oil mix. My twists looked great. Got alot of compliments esp. the second day.

  7. I tried vatika oil and my hair loves it but my skin not so much. I’m having break outs when my hair touches my face. I also tried rose water and it started out ok but the longer it stays in my hair it feels crunchy.
    * I revisited henna and I finally got good results

  8. I recently tried the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner and it was “heaven” to my hair. It made my hair so soft and the detangling was easy. I love it!

  9. The products I tried for the month of August include Garnier Frutis fortifying shampoo and cream conditioner which I liked but I think I need something more creamier as far as the shampoo goes, Mane and Tail detangler I mixed it with some other things and I really like it, I may keep it, and my suave conditioners for my co washes which I have been using for the past 5 years and do not plan on changing. The products I normally use I was out, I have ordered most of them and now I am waiting for their arrival. I just need to find a good moisturizing shampoo.

  10. I tried Oyin’s Juices and Berries as a moisturizer and it has been fantastic so far. It smells DIVINE, too! My favorite thing about it is that my hair welcomes it. I’ve been trying to find a moisturizer to introduce into my regimen for years, and I may have struck gold…without the build-up.

  11. I tried the Afroveda Ends Hydration leave-in, but the first few ingredients are oils and shea butter, so I’m currently testing it out as a sealant. Still on the search for the perfect moisturizer…

  12. I’ve been looking for a way to replace henna as a coloring agent because I want to back off on the intensity of the color. I saw a link to a YTer who used a temporary/semi-permanent color rinse by Clairol called Jazzings. After checking the web site clairolpro.com, and after checking for local availability, I went to my local Sally’s and bought one bottle each of the Creme Soda color and the spiced Cognac.

To apply, I tried to squirt equal amounts of both into a ceramic cup, put on disposable gloves, and applied it to the roots of freshly shampooed hair by parting sections and applying between the parts. When I was done, I smoothed it down the shaft of my hair, wrapped it in a couple of plastic shopping bags, wrapped a towel around to take advantage of my body heat, and sat for about 30 minutes. When the time was up I rinsed it out under running water in my kitchen sink. I should have co-washed instead of just rinsing, and if you try this, I highly recommend you do the co-wash. The color at the roots was nice, but it darkened my already fairly dark henna. My exercise buddy was not pleased!

I didn’t mind the too-dark color too much because it’s supposed to be semi-permanent, which means it should go away eventually. As a result of not co-washing, I kept getting it under my fingernails every time I scratched my head or handled my hair for the almost two weeks that passed after I first applied it. It also left a red stain on my satin pillowcase. The good news, however, is that showering and washing dishes was all it took to clean my hands, and it washed completely out of any material that came in contact with the dye from rubbing against my hair. Pillowcases, collars, the towel I wrapped around my head, they all came clean.

More importantly, now that I know what to expect, I think I’ll finish up the Creme Soda, which is the lighter of the two, then I’ll order the gold one from Amazon and maybe mix it with more of the Creme Soda to get closer to the color I want. If that works colorwise, then that is how I will grow out the henna I’ve been using since 2007. It’s not that I dislike the color generally, I just want to be a lighter red that is closer to my original color in intensity.

As far as dryness, yeah, my hair was a little dry, but it responded well to the products I use as part of my daily routine. I know I’ll need to DC with this stuff, and it’s just a matter of not being lazy about it. My scalp did tingle from contact with the color, but it was minor. It smelled okay, which was a good thing because the scent lingered for a few days, though that may have been as a result of not co-washing it out. In terms of clean-up and overall use, I prefer it to henna. So we’ll see :-)!

  13. This past weekend I tried the Olive Oil Cholesterol Deep Conditioner that I won from a YT contest. I did not like it at all, It left my hair with a waxy feeling. It felt like I was trying to wash out Murray’s grease. I hate to throw products away so I’ll most likely be giving it to my mom (she doesnt care what she puts in her hair).

  14. I tried Oyin’s Whipped Pudding. I love the smell, a light honey, kinda cocoa smell, very nice. The consistency is thick, way too thick and heavy for my fine hair. I didn’t want to give it away so I had to figure out how to make it work. I had been using Suave’s Shea and Almond conditioner as a leave in and a little S-Curl for added moisture, so I decided to try all three together. It’s PERFECTION!! All the products mixed together yielded a very rich yet light very moisturizing leave-in . I use this combo after I cleanse my hair and it stays moist until the next cleanse day.

  15. I tried carols daughter shampoo and conditioner and deep conditioner and I dont know if it was one or the other or the combination of all three but it left my hair like straw. My hair has never felt like that! and A few days later i grab a section of my hair and the ends? OMG I had split ends out this world! I dont know what they put in that stuff but my hair felt terrible afterwards.

  16. Ok, I stumbled upon this website a few months ago and I have been a faithful reader ever since! I’ve enjoyed the comments and the articles but I’ve never commented UNTIL TODAY!

So technically I tried this product in September (today) but I couldn’t wait till next month to post this because I didn’t want anyone else to make this mistake!

LUSH: Curly Wurly shampoo DON’T DO IT!

I recently moved to NYC and came across the store LUSH never heard of it before so I was intrigued. So I went in an about an hour later the lovely (non-black) sales woman convinced me to try Curly Wurly. At the time my hair was in braids so she gave me a sample (full size is $20+) and told me to try it when I take my braids down. So last night I took my braids down and decided to give this Curly Wurly shampoo a try. Being from the islands I loved the fact that it had real coconut in it and it smelled amazing! So I followed her instructions to the T! Lather it in your hands first before applying it to your wet hair to avoid the pieces of coconut getting tangled in your curls. So I lathered, applied, massaged, rinsed and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed some more! I didn’t like the feel of my hair (kinda crunchy and dry) so I stepped out of the shower to peek in the mirror and to my disgust my hair had a BILLION pieces of coconut in it! I immediately applied conditioner and began the hour long detangling and comb through! I still haven’t gotten all the coconut pieces out so as I write this I’ve got half bottle of conditioner in my hair under a shower cap and i’ll have to comb it out again with a smaller comb!

So sorry this post is so long but I had to share this! I did google/youtube curly wurly on black hair but I couldn’t find anything so I was hoping that it was a hidden gem that would work wonders and I could share it with a lot of people! WRONG WRONG WRONG! I really hope that I can get all this coconut out of my hair cause i’d hate to be walking around with pigeons pecking at me trying to get coconut from my hair!

    1. I worked at Lush before…their face products are lovely to try, but their hair care products are not for us no matter how they try to spin the benefits of their ingredients.

  17. I won the JessiCurl Confident Coils collection during the NC.com Grow Out Challenge and tried the collection last month. It included the Cleansing Cream, the Too Shea Extra Moisturizing Conditioner, the Weekly Deep Tx (which I already used and loved prior to August) and the Confident Coils Styling Solution. The cleansing cream and the regular conditioner were a pass. The Confident Coils Styling Solution may be a keeper though. I did a post with my video review of the collection:

  18. I tried Shea Moisture’s curl enhancing smoothie. LOVED IT. My hair has never felt so moisturized and soft. I also tried Elasta QP olive oil & mango butter moisturizer. Smelled great, but left my hair feeling a bit greasy.

Think I’ll stick to Shea Moisture and EVOO. 🙂

    1. *Clenches fists in frustration* WHERE ARE PEOPLE GETTING THIS ELASTA QP OLIVE AND MANGO BUTTER?! I’VE LOOKED FOR IT EVERYWHERE, AND I CANNOT FIND IT ANYWHERE! *Takes several deep breaths, calms down* I’ve mostly heard good things about it, and I want to try it. I live in Raleigh, NC.

      1. LOL! I actually found it at a local beauty supply store. In fact…beauty supply stores are the only places I’ve seen it. If you have any small businesses nearby, you could probably check there. Bigger businesses don’t seem to carry a lot of brands…not where I am, anyway.

  19. I tried BAKING SODA. Ha. But really I read the instruction on how to mix it with water for ingestion. My hair hasn’t felt this clean in months! I was doing the ACV rinse but I think I’ll be sticking with baking soda. I felt the squeaky clean from my hair but it didn’t clump up or dry out, which my hair does with any shampoo I have tried.

  20. i tried a homemade dc of greek yogurt, honey and olive oil. my hair came out soft, etc,but now it has a lingering smell of sour milk.
i am swearing off of food as conditioner on my hair.

  21. I used the Garnier Fructis Sleek n Shine Intensely Smooth leave-in conditioner for frizzy, dry and unmanageable hair. Loved it, smells great and comes in a cute little green bottle for a decent price found right at your grocer.

  22. I got my hands on the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (they were BOGO at Walgreens), and my curls are sooo happy right now. The humidity was doing a number on my hair, and just adding this product has added softness, shine, and has reduced tangling tremendously. I’m in love. Can’t wait to try it on my daughter’s hair.

  23. Timely topic. I am faithful to Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream for my fine 4b hair. Here’s my scant August buys:

Aussie Moist – travel size. I decided to experiment with silicones but although this did seem moisturising to wet hair, when it dries it’s frizzy, coated a little and not moisturised well. May try water soluble cone con.

Qhemet Biologics Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee. Prefer this to that other solid ghee they do. It isn’t a miracle product and smells herby and unpleasant but it does absorb well and left my hair reasonably soft. I am not in the US though and do not expect to repurchase for that reason.

Qhemet Aethiopika twist and hydrate butter – nice product but smells horrendous. I believe she changed the scent. It smells like granny’s bathroom soap and that cloying scent lingers. However, on damp moisturised hair it’s great for twists. It leaves my hair very soft and would be great for twist outs. I use it for twists. My only question mark over it is that it contains wax and seems like it could build up. I would repurchase but it does not topple burdock. I’m going to see if it protects my ends in winter.

    Finally…

    Oyin Honey Hemp
    Oyin Frank Juice

Hopefully I can add my views when I use them tomorrow. I did smell them and was deeply disappointed. I heard so much about how amazing these scents were, every review shows women with their noses in the bottle as though it was made in Olympus. To me HH smells like Hairveda Sitrinillah and the Frank Juice smells like cola or cola bottles to Brits. I am not an orange scent fan and hope it fades on the hair. Smelling like cola is worrying too.

    1. I was going to purchase the Aethiopika twist and hydrate butter, butr I wasn’t too sure about the waxy build up either. I love the burdock root butter cream, but have you tried the alma and olive heavy cream? I know some people use that for the winter and the burdock cream for the sumer months.

      1. Well I have fine hair so that’s a worry with waxes. I also only wash 1x a week and I think if you are one of those naturals who washes more frequently then it wont be a problem. I like to refresh my twists with spritzes during the week and am not sure if Aethiopika is conducive to that or if it blocks moisture. I only use it on damp hair 1x a week. It does make my hair very soft though. They should do samples of it so that people can try it out. I’d say the smell is it’s biggest downfall.

Many moons ago I tried Amla Heavy Cream but it was just too greasy and my strands stuck together and tangled with that on. It was also extremely oily on my hair and made it untouchable. I just didn’t like it and would never repurchase. I think Burdock is better for fine strands. I’ve used it since the start of my journey 4 years ago.

        1. they changed the scent of the aethiopika butter. it’s absolutely lovely now. the wax is listed as the very last ingredients so i don’t think it contains a lot. i love it. leaves my 4c hair very soft.

  24. Aussie Moist makes my hair feel amazing! I use it to detangle, and boy does it have amazing slip. Don’t regret buying it at all this month. It always works great as a deep conditioner! What I don’t understand is why a product that has similar ingredients to several other drugstore products I’ve tried works so much better. I LOVE that it comes in a big pump bottle – I feel like I’ll never run out!

I also bought 3 bottles of VO5 conditioner, not because I wanted to, but because I was having a hair emergency (lol) and could not access my beloved Herbal Essences Hello Hydration (now replaced by Aussie Moist). One was a clarifying conditioner and the other two were the strawberry & milk moisturizing ones. All 3 didn’t do a thing for my hair. No slip, no moisture. The clarifying conditioner I would suggest, however, to those who cowash but want clean hair. It reminds me of a sulfate-free shampoo.

  25. Bought Jessicurl Weekly Deep Conditioner and Koils by Nature Shealoe Leave-in during the 15off sale. LOVE the Jessicurl. Hair was so easy to detangle and so soft and moist looking afterwords. Koils by Nature I am still trying out. Love the smell, but 1st time it seemed oily. Second time was much better, so waiting to see what happens the 3rd time around.

  26. Ok, first, I knew better than to try this, but I’m stubborn so I tried it anyway; Fructis Style Pure and Clean Gel…on my locs. Big mistake. Had ’em all flaky. I had to wash all that crap out and retwist my hair again. Do you know how long that took me? Never again!

  27. Going through Curl Junkie sample packs. Lots of misses, but the hits are holy grail hits – Daily Fix, Beauticurls Argan and Olive Daily conditioner, and Curl Rehab. The good thing is I found out I am protein sensitive and my hair does not react well to glycerin even with dewpoints in the 50s.

I don’t think I can ever be a product junkie as I have very few products (I need ones that are proteins/glycerin/paraben/silicone free) at my disposable.

    1. The qhemet biologics products have a fair amount of glycerine…so maybe that was the problem? Some people just can’t deal with the glycerine while otehr can.

      1. I didn’t even check those ingredients! I was so excited to get it because everyone liked it. Thanks for letting me know and reminding me to always do that.

  28. This summer I focused on finding products for my routine once I BC. I tried the Aussie Moist Conditioner and the Sofn’free GroHealthy Milk Protein & Olive Oil Daily Growth Lotion, both which I love. The Aussie Moist is thick, has nice detangling slip and my hair felt smooth after rinsing. The Daily Growth Lotion made my hair have shine, feel soft, and my hair didn’t feel greasy which is great for my fine strands (I applied a small amount). I think I found my staples 🙂

  29. A homemade spritz that was suggested by Naptural85. It’s easy: 50% water mixed with 50% aloe vera juice. I add a few drops of lavendar oil to it for fragrance. I spritz my hair with it whenever it’s feeling dry and I’m really happy with the results! Note: I keep it refrigerated because of the aloe vera juice.

  30. I revisited an oldie, Hair mayonnaise by ORS and it works well on my natural hair. I also tried neem oil but the smell is dreadful. I thought I was going to puke (sorry!) when I first applied it.

  31. Aubrey organics gpb conditioner. Used it once so far but my hair reacted well. It felt stronger. Oyin Greg juice. nice refresher and sometimes i spray a bit before putting in a cream leave-in. Bringing me to my Bearfruit African Export leave-in, just started using it over the weekend. Still comparing it Giovanni’s direct. I like the smell and it seems more moisturizing to my desert hair.

However, I am wondering if the coconut oil might be too much for my hair especially if applied 3X times or more weekly. Time will tell, i guess.
Anyone else use this yet? Finally, jessicurl dc!!
I still having cracked it open but Saturday might be the day! 😀

      1. I got the Bear Fruit leave in as well for my desert hair…it is very oily I suppose, but not in a bad way…
        I dont use it 3x a week though…

  32. I tried Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk and it actually “defined” my TWA curls more…I was shocked b/c nothing else has worked so far lol

    1. yea..folks are up and down about CD…some people a tried and true and will never use anything else and some people don’t buy into the hype…

I LOVE hair milk I use it often, mostly for the rare wash and go, and it smells divine.

  33. i tried Cush Cosmetics products. They were gifted to me by a friend. They are lovely products, but didn’t wow me, none of the items in the line became a staple. The price is kinda crazy high too for mostly 4oz jars and bottles (i even think the Huile Supreme moisturising cream is 2oz), and 1 bottle of conditioner that is 8oz.

  34. So:
Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue Styling Creme, Price: $7.99, Rickys NYC
It worked pretty well for revitalizing a day 4 twist out when I was too lazy to wash and re-twist (I re-wet with conditioner and water, then scrunched in the creme)
Downside: My hair was too stiff and there was enough build-up that I had to wash with Dr. Bronners Almond Soap before I co-washed.
I tried if for my wet twist out, thinking the water would stretch it out some and eliminate the stiffness…it did-BUT..I have white flakes everywhere!
The twist out itself IS well defined…but it I don’t know if it’s worth the product build-up. I’m glad I opted for the small tester jar first. Pretty ok, but I probably will not buy the larger jar. I like the definition of the twist out so I may use the rest of the jar at some point when I want a really well defined curl/wave pattern for a special occasion. For weekly twist out..NO

Suave Professionals Almond and Shea Butter Conditioner, Price: $2.50, Family Dollar
SO I run into family dollar on a weekend trip to Philly to get some cheap conditioner to co-wash. I co-washed with this conditioner and then left it in and did medium sized twists all over, sealing it with Darcy’s Botanical Juicy Peach Kernel oil to go swimming…only I never went swimming. When I finally I un-raveled my hair (hoping to God I could somehow salvage it without a re-twisting it) I was in SHOCK.
It felt so soft, so well moisturized and smelled AMAZING! The curls/waves were nicely defined and held up great in my estimation (a week). It did so great that this has become my new twist-out routine, I’ve never seen twist outs done with conditioner before, but for my really fine hair, it seems to work for me.
I will definitely re-use it and stocked up on 4 bottles just the other day. It comes in about 3 other scents, but I think I like the idea of the Shea and Almond butter and oil in my hair.

Darcy’s Botanical Juicy Peach Kernal Oil: Price 9.00 (was $12 I took advantage of the sale on the BGLH marketplace)
I am totally and completely in LOVE, I order 2 more bottles this weekend.
On Skin: smells AMAZING, absorbs easily and leaves skin silky smooth, a little goes a long way. I got the “hm, baby your skin feels so soft” and “you smell like fruit”comments from my sleeping buddy…so it gets an A++
On hair: SAME, SAME, SAME…smells AMAZING, absorbs well, leaves hair soft and a little goes a long way. I used this to seal my wet hair styles. I have super-fine tangly hair and this is light enough not to weigh me down and heavy enough to help retain my curls. I added it to my pre-poo, my leave-in and add it during the week to help keep hair shiny and smelling great.
The only downside is that the bottle is too small…I would buy this amazing oil by the gallon if I could!

    1. Dr. Bronner’s Organic Liquid Soap – Almond – Price: 15.75 32 oz., Dr. Bronners website
I had this soap in the house already. I use the Peppermint soap daily (it is the only soap that I can use on my sensitive bits) and I use this when I want to switch things up. I had to rinse out the build-up from hair product (see Miss Jessie’s review) and I find the Peppermint soap strips my hair too clean. I used this VERY much diluted and it worked well. Next time I may mix it with the Peppermint because I missed the tingle..but that won’t be for awhile.

Bear Fruit African Export Leave in: Price: $12.50, 8.5 oz BGLH marketplace
First time trying this product. It is VERY moisturizing, smells amazing and I didn’t have to use a whole lot. It doesn’t allow my hair stretch as much as I would like for a twist out, so I use it when I am going to be leaving in a protective style. It was a bit pricey for me as opposed to making my own leave-in, so I will probably use it as base for home versions and stretch it out.
Great product if you can afford it, I will probably buy again during a BGLH sale.

*whew* sounds expensive but it wasn’t, I took advantage of the BGLH marketplace sale, and I had 2 of the products in my home already.

      1. That juicy peach oil sounds amazing!!! I love DB’s Pumpkin Seed conditioner … another delicious smelling product … and I don’t even like Pumpkin!!! Reading the comments on this post is going to get me in trouble!!

  35. I the best things I tried this month were Original Moxie’s Intense Quench and Oasis Gel. Talk about soft hair!!! I also tried Shea Moisture’s Style Milk. It was good, a less expensive version of Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk, in my opinion.

  36. This month I tried the organix brazilian keratin conditioner and coconut milks oil and man! my hair is soooo soft afterwards!!

    1. I’ve heard really great things about this line! Which products have you used specifically?

      1. The burrock root butter cream, so far and they had a august sale and i odered more of that and the alma olive heavy cream.

    2. I hated the Amla and Olive Heavy Cream – it just sat on my strands regardless of how little I used. I am glad I only got a sample. I got the full container of Burdock Root Butter Cream and it is okay, but I will not be repurchasing it. I use it for night time moisture because it just doesn’t do much otherwise. I can buy a pound of avocado butter for 9.99 that does a better job. Oh well. I have my products, my regimen and I have stocked up. With protective styling in the dead of the winter, I don’t plan on buying anything else until next year spring.

  37. I tried Wen by Chaz Dean Pommegranate Cleasning Condish….the longer you let it sit, the more you use, and the better your application, the results are soft and enhanced beauty, however beware of hair resudding if you leave to much behind!

    1. I just ordered this yesterday.. I been natural all my life and my usual hair routine consists of going to the Dominicans to get a blow out.. Im starting to take control of my hair and keeping it healthy.. starting with Wen. After reading thought the forum I see that I also need to stock up on Oils since keeping my hair moist is important.

Currently my hair is dry, I have split ends and it breaks easily.. I cant wait to get it sorted out!

  38. Jamila Henna! I had tried other hennas a handful of times before and even cassia before taking the henna plunge, so I was beyond skeptical about the raves I always read about this brand. I couldn’t believe Jamila could be worth paying more than twice as much as the kind I get at my local Indian grocery (Dulhan) or other less expensive brands– not to mention that I have to go through the hassle of ordering Jamila online, since I can’t get it locally.

Well. Consider me convinced. I will definitely be using Jamila from here on out, because the results were phenomenal and I experienced a much more profound improvement in my hair’s condition. I’ll just have to buy it in bulk, so I can stock up and save a little, because it really is worth it for me.

    1. Did you order from Mehandi.com? If so, you may want to check out what Catherine at Mehandi had to say about it on CurlyNikki’s site. She is now recommending Rajasthani (?) Twilight as the best. I am a Jamila girl, but I was running low, so I ordered the RT yesterday. I had great results with Jamila, but I ordered in 2010, so I think I have the 2009 crop which was good. Seems that the 2010 crop is the one with the deteriorating quality and pesticides concern.

      1. I ordered mine from Ayurnatural Beauty. I have the April(?) 2010 crop, and I just stocked up because I loved it. I have heard good things about Rajasthani too, though. It’s definitely on my to-try list, when I run out of my Jamila (uhm, which probably won’t be until sometime in 2012…).

        1. Hahaha!! I stock up like that too!! I have two boxes of Jamila Summer 2009 crop in my stash that I bought in Summer 2010!! I’ll use in the next few months. I stocked up last year, so I didn’t get any of the later 2010 crop that seems to be the problem. It’s good until May 2012, so I may have to try the Rajasthani in the mix just to see what kind of color I get on my grey in comparison to Jamila. That’s one of my favorite parts of using henna, fiery red grey:)!

  39. OMG, I tried WAY too many…Fermodyl 619, Aveda Brilliant Damage Control, Sebastian Potion 9, Chi Silk Infusion, Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade, Frederick Fekkai Glossing Cream-all to straighten my hair. Then, while not straight, I tried…Vatika Egg Protein Hair Mask, Huetiful’s Hair Masque w/Moringa Oil and Dr. Miracle’s Follicle Healer. I’ve been very bad!

    1. How was the Aveda Anti-humectant? I went into Ricky’s looking for one and I didn’t find any that I thought would work (either I didn’t know the brand or they were out of the one I wanted)

      1. Whoah!!! And I thought I was a PJ! LOL!!! HOw did you like the Fermodyl and what would you say was the best heat protectant. I don’t straighten my hair regularly (it’ll be a year since it was straightened in October. But, I plan on doing a blow out at the end of January and in search of a great heat protectant now so that I’ll be ready. I’ve been thinking about using the Chi Silk Infusion, so especially interested in your review of that one.

    1. My staple products are Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Vegetable Glycerine Jojoba Oil & Coconut Oil.

  40. I tried the Jessicurl Weekly Deep Conditioner. I love it. I’ve used it three times and have hardly put a ent in it. It’s so thick and it makes my thick, dry hair so soft. So soft and detangled that I haven’t used a leave-in after rinsing it out. I know its expensive, but its definitely a staple for me.

    1. That’s one of my staples too. I actually have been using Darcy’s Botanical Pumpkin Seed and SM Raw Shea Deep Tx Masque as of late, but there are a couple jars of JessiCurl WDT in the fridge:)! I’m just a PJ and like to experiment. All three work well for me except that the SM Masque has no slip, so I have to make sure that my hair is really detangled before applying and applying a diluted conditioner over the masque before rinsing helps it slip when rinsed too.

  41. I went to the hair show in Atlanta and brought a bunch of Jane Carter products since a lot of Natural Sisters rave about it and unfortunately they just didn’t work for my hair. Especially the Condition and Sculpt and the leave in conditioner.
I also tried Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk and it didn’t work for me either.
If you like these products I will be selling them on this cool hair product swap website I just found: http://www.lolasgreenhair.com/
On a good note I did finally try Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk and I love it so far!

      1. I do like the smell of other CD products better like the Tui collection and the new Macadamian (sp?) collection.

  42. I tried Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave in Conditioner.. love! I was looking for a new leave in for a while when I stumbled across this one in target. Leaves my hair nice and soft.

    1. Hey I tried the Jane Carter leave in conditioner too and it was a little too thick for my hair. I only used it once and will probably post it on this product swap website: http://www.lolasgreenhair.com/ for about $5 bucks this weekend if you want to stock up.

    2. I tried it and my hair is just crispy and weird. It does however make it shiny. I guess I’ll give it away..

      1. When I first went natural in 2006, I used Cantu Shea Butter Leave In and it was great. Then as time went on and my hair got longer, I noticed the build up of white balls of gunk in my hair. Needless to say…I don’t use it anymore

        1. my 6 y/o daughter has 4a waist length hair ..the cantu leave in smells great..too bad it ALSO left those nasty white buildup balls in her hair…so now I just use The shea butter based leave in I concocted for BOTH our hair!

          1. Wow this is a little weird….because I had the exact same problem. It worked great when my hair was shorter, but now it leaves tons of buildup and flakes.

      2. I tried the Cantu Shea butter in August too and love it however I’ve just started to notice a little build-up as well. I cut back on how much I use…it still makes my hair super soft.
