Rapper Wale found himself in hot water on Instagram this week after he posted and commented on a meme that’s been circulating on social media for a few weeks now. The meme features a black woman with what appears to be a surgically enhanced behind being held up by a chain. Wale has since deleted the original post from his Instagram account, but we were able to grab a screen shot from The Shade Room.
Wale may have thought that he was doing black women a favor by apologizing to black women for making them feel as if they needed to ruin their bodies to please black men. Most responded positively, applauding him for speaking up and acknowledging that black women don’t need to manipulate their bodies in order to feel accepted. However, some of his followers weren’t here for Wale’s “Dear Black Women” speech. Apparently, some of his followers are upset that he only geared his message to black women, when there are a slew of non-black women plumping up every thing they can.
Butt enhancements used to be the elephant in the room, more and more women are speaking about and even against them. Most recently, and quite surprisingly, songtress K Michelle spoke about removing her butt enhancements to return to her “normal shape.”
Ladies, what are your thoughts?

Okay. Keep hope alive.
I don’t know of a single black man who insist on a black women getting butt enhancement women who do this do it for themselves, men no the difference between the real and the unreal and the unreal looks unreal and nasty to us.
I don’t know of a single black man who insist on a black women getting butt enhancement women who do this do it for themselves, men no the difference between the real and the unreal and the unreal looks unreal and obscene to us.
All the black men I was friends with or dated (or was even related to) all told me the same thing: you’d look much more attractive if you put on more weight and had more curves”. (I was also heavily encouraged to “put some hair and make up on”, but that’s beside the point). The ones I dated were with me all while turning heads to admire the women whom they obviously found to be more attractive. This was justified by turning back to me to say, “see you could look like THAT.” Which led me to believe they were with me because they couldn’t get with THAT…how’s that for a self esteem buster? One friend who wanted to get together went so far as to say “I’m so busy chasing Bentleys and Porsches that I overlooked my trusty and comfortable Thunderbird.” Yeah, he compared me to obsolete recalled Ford…one made in Ford’s bad reputation era.
I ended up marrying a man who appreciated me for me. He happens to be white.
I don’t a problem with anything Wale said. I wholeheartedly agree.
For about 2 years I considered getting a BBL and breast implants just to please black men and even latino men (seeing as I live in a neighborhood filled with them) because it seems like that’s all they want is curvy curvy curvy. Big double d chest and huge wide backside. I’m a black woman who is slightly curvy, but it only shows when my clothes are off. I’m on the taller side and have a stick figure with clothes on, and my chest and backside are ok…something there but not much, nothing to brag about. Anyways, I was feeling really depressed because they (black men) never seemed to go for me. My curvier friends got all the attention and I was left behind. Only guys that liked me were white guys.
Good thing I was broke back when I wanted these surgeries, because as time has gone on (and mind you I’m still broke) – and as my age has gone up I have matured more and more….so I started wising up. I stopped wanting implants and butt lifts because it just seemed ridiculous to me. To stress over that. To stress over getting the money up, to be that vain, to be that superficial when that money could go to something like my education…or something more worthy….but instead I’m spending it just so I could get looks from men on the street….and so I could finally get a man to “love” me and so I could get into bed?? LOL!
NO! I wised up. If I had a child, I would never tell them they needed to do this to their-self in order to be attractive or keep a man around….so why was I putting this much pressure on myself??? I came to the conclusion that being educated, being smart and being in good health is way more important than being curvy, or having fake body parts. A wise man should feel the same. And I’m not knocking other people who do it, or who are naturally curvy, I’m just sayin it’s not the most important thing. I wasn’t brought here on this planet to be a blow up doll or a toy to the opposite sex. I serve a bigger and better purpose! And I’m happy with the way I look. I was always happy with how I looked. It was just my environment that made me feel like I should be ashamed. But one day I thought “eh, screw any man that makes me feel bad about the way my body looks.” I’m not altering my body and putting my health in danger and getting myself into debt just to please you. I will just CHANGE who I spend time with. In other words the right man will love me and adore my not-so-curvy body. And kinda think about it, that’s a good thing, because I wouldn’t want to be with a man who was that shallow about appearances that he couldn’t get to know what a good person he passed up.
My whole point is, and my personal belief is, that women generally speaking don’t *need* to get this type of surgery. It’s not a necessity. Long before these surgeries even existed, men were still capable of being attracted to you, slender or curvy- and they still can be if only you look for the right man. Only do it if YOU TRULY WANT TO, for yourself and nobody else. If you are just doing it because you want to look like that Instagram thot who had loads of surgery on her butt and chest…and gets sexually vulgar comments from thirsty losers hitting her up in the comments section…then you need to honestly re-evaluate your self esteem.
This was great until that thot comment….by the way all of these degrading words..you know them..are referring to all of us.
If you happen to be a female who had surgery enhancements…is making sexual poses in your bra and panties taking pics in your bathroom mirror, and posting them up for anyone to see on Instagram…or any social media account for that matter…then you are automatically sending out a slut vibe. Would you post those pics if you were married and your husband could see them? Would you send it to your grandma? Don’t expect anyone to think you’re innocent if you put yourself out there like that. And don’t think anyone will respect you, either. I’m only referring to THESE types of females.
And my point was….that ANY woman with self confidence knows she doesn’t need to look like the surgically enhanced thots on Instagram in order to get CHEAP attention from men (like the examples seen in comments sections) or to get and keep a man in reality. In reality, a guy is going to fall for you regardless of what you look like, if he cares about you. Its not about the shape of your body, but about your mind and personality. Focus on that because looks ain’t THAT important! Hot women get dumped all the time, so succumbing to the pressure of having an hourglass figure and having a whale ass is ridiculous. If she is insecure, and ONLY feels she needs to look a certain way because certain men *cough* black *cough* are pressuring her to, then she needs to re-evaluate herself completely, in the mind and spirit. She needs to admit that she has problems. You should never get surgery to please others but only do it if you truly want to. Do what makes you happy. However, wanting it because you think you can’t get a man (without having a fat ass), that’s stupidity at it’s finest. Instead of worrying about how fat your ass is, and worrying about what men think, why don’t you stop spending time with men who are so SHALLOW and critical of your appearance! Ignore them if they ignore you! You don’t need them! And even if it means dating/marrying outside your race, then DO IT!
If a black man, or whoever the particular man may be, who won’t even give you a second glance because your ass doesn’t look like it contains two huge watermelons…then date a white man or whoever it is that likes your natural body shape, no enhancements whatsoever. I NEVER EVER heard of white men demanding black women to have all this unnatural crap done to them (with hair and body). And then when they (black men or whoever) call you a traitor for dating outside your race…you just tell them if loving yourself for who you are makes you a “traitor” then so be it, but you’re not down with changing yourself just to get love and affection from other people. A wise man no matter his race will respect your choice and respect you too!
I won’t emphasize anything on race or attraction. I will just say that a woman or man who knows themself n all that “her/him” encompasses should be real. N stayin real, unless it is for medical aid, there should be no butt enhancements. Sighs, but ppl do what they feel. Learn ta b REAL
i MEAN LET BE HONEST HERE.. THESE BUTT IMPLANTS LOOKS SO FAKE AND UNNATURAL I DON’T KNOW WHY MEN ARE ATTRACTED TO WOMEN WITH FAKE OVERLOADED BUTTS???
Why not call out Kim K and CoCo?? first of all Kim K do not have but implants or injection and second THIS WAS A BLACK MAN COMMENTING ON HIS BLACK SISTER.. WHY DO HE HAVE TO INCLUDE THE OTHER RACES..
OhMyGosh Kim Kardashian has done fat grafting though
you cant win!!!!!
he calls black b*ches, black women attack him, he apologizes and praises for what they natural are, he STILL gets attacked.
LIKE WHAT do YOU WANT!?!?
EXACTLY
Women and men were created to please each other naturally. In natural order the woman is to serve and the man is to protect. My people always make the mistake of taking things like this too seriously in the wrong way. The man didn’t mean to say that only black women do this, he just is calling black women in general to appreciate themselves for who they are. This is something that is not common in black women for the most part. *Just saying*
When you change yourself, you get what those changes attract. Real good black women don’t have to search for good black men, they naturally just come along. I can speak to that just from experience. Black women are beautiful and blessed already without surgical procedures. You are a blessing to the earth yourselves. I love a black woman who is perfectly confident in herself with everything that she was born with. Nothing more wonderful to me
But most black women try their hardest to change their self to be something they’re not to get men because most black men date out their race,so it’s hard for black when to find a GOOD black man so they CHANGE themselves for the attention from Men in their own race
Most?…speak for yourself….As if Black men are the only men in this world.
You sound very angry and hurt and somewhat racist. I hope you get help.
Lol.thanks.
epic response.
And yet it’s black women giving people like the Kardashians and Nicki Minaj a pass. Stop using a black woman’s body as a caricature. Everybody wants to be us without the struggle and prejudice.
But here’s the thing–that body type (busty, large hips, thighs, backside with small waist aka hourglass) is not exclusive to black women, nor do all black women have that shape. White women are shaped like that too-the only difference is I know they get a lot less acceptance from their culture than we would. I’m black and I don’t have that body shape at all. I was teased mercilessly for only being busty and not curvy in the hips and ass. So most of the prejudice regarding my body has come from other black people.
I totally agree with you – I’m a curvy girl myself, naturally. I was referring to surgically enhanced women who mimick our appearance to monetize.
Bullshit white women aren’t naturally shaped like that . Iam not some young twenty year old so I know damn well white women just started getting bodies like this due to intermixing and the hormones in the food and black Dan in their vaccinations.
I don’t know why you replied to my comment ? maybe by mistake?
Who?…This guy can keep his apologies…any Black woman who would do that to themselves have mental issues….especially if they did it for the attention of Black males who can’t feed themselves much less anyone else.
Sadly black women are not doing any better themselves
Thanks sana.
not entirely sure who Wale is & why everybody is up in arms, but that picture… that’s a joke right? like a bad one? what is happening? never mind, I’ll happy skip away to my rock now… because, as my name suggests, yeahhhh….
People! be nice!
I think a lot of Black women are argumentative and combative…just difficult for whatever reason. First off, the whole “Black women aren’t the only ones…” statements are foolish – doesn’t matter if we are, or if we aren’t. If something is dumb, doesn’t matter if we’re not the only ones doing it. I don’t care about what White women do…their men can speak to them. A BLACK man is saying, “You don’t have to mutilate your bodies to be attractive”, to BLACK women. I have HEARD Black men say, “If she don’t have a big a$$, she can keep it movin'” – you’re invisible if your “backside” isn’t a big as the earth, to a LOT of brothas. So we know that having a big butt is considered essential to many Black men, AND we know that some of these women (who get butt enhancements) look like circus freaks. You can’t win. We got these brothas trying to support sistas and tell us we’re okay…just as we are, and we wanna fight them. If they don’t speak up for us, we get an attitude about that. Black men, keep silent and let us fend for ourselves – stop trying to minister to us, because you can never do it “just right”, and a lot of Black women have embraced feminist ideology (which was never meant to include us anyway) and they see any type of male feedback as a threat…an attempt to govern or control our behavior. It’s sick.
You are absolutely correct. There was nothing wrong with his message, and he is speaking specifically to Black Women. This is not about White women or non-black women. Those women as a whole are not overly concerned with what a black man is desiring. We, black women, are the ones getting @$$ implants because black men project this image of an ideal black woman with a gargantuan @$$.
Wale should have never removed the meme. It was relevant and appropriate.
We have got to do better and not bully men or women that are trying to educate and elevate us.
I wholeheartedly agree with you!
You are so correct, I couldn’t have said it better myself. Black women attacked him to the point where he felt he needed to take it down, that right there says a lot.
As a black man we aren’t trying to minister to you; furthermore, most of your statement sounds to be coming from Southern American rap songs and street slang. I as a BLACK man love a beautiful BLACK woman who is confident in herself and what she has been blessed with. I won’t stay silent cause those types of women aren’t even attractive because ask me they have a lot of mental growth to do. BLACK women can win. I wish the majority of cotton picking male descendants would think that way. Love me some chocolate woman!!!
I’m missing your point. “You can’t win” isn’t talking about Black women…I’m talking about Black men. “As a Black man, WE…” No, as a Black man, YOU. Speak for yourself. CLEARLY Wale was attempting to “minister”, which means “encourage”. Why would you not be interested in that? SMH.
I like his message! I hope young black women listen to him. And I wish these reality TV shows stop glorifying plastic surgery jobs too. Every time I turn on TV , some actress or reality star got some boob, lip or butt enhancement job. Getting tired of it!
Amen!
Let’s not count the nose jobs! How many black women in Hollywood, actress, married into fame, or otherwise (not -so-reality TV for instance ), have the nose they were born with? Who isn’t slathering on a whitening cream? Racial ambiguity “with a tan and a butt”…that’s what our women are after.
His music videos feature black women, dark skin at that! Smh at these angry people that are upset with his message
I agree with WALE’s post and frankly don’t understand what’s the problem. .he’s a so called black man addressing so called back women. Now we have so many black feminist which out I don’t understand that whole mindset movement as well as weak so call black men who don’t like his comment that’s not surprising.. oh well sometimes you just have to consider the source and realize that we have so much self hatred within our own community and still hate being pointed out when someone puts our filthiness in front of our faces faces and some stupid stuff stuff that we’re doing trying to do be like everyone else don’t realize we are the mold but no we… we love making excuses oh well the truth is truth we got to do better.. thank you WALE.
Yesssssss
Maybe it’s me but only black men seem to be the ones who degrade their women as publicly as they possibly can – and by name too- even if the women they choose of all colors do this – somehow they ONLY pin it on black women. One wonders why black women continue to support males who continue to backstab them. I remove myself from the equation because I do not identify with such a culture. I grew up learning that a man never tells you he doesn’t want you more than once. Sisters here in America seem to LOVE being told they aren’t loved nor appreciated. It’s very odd to witness.
I agree with most of your post. And you are fortunate to have been raised to know that “a man never tells you he doesn’t want you more than once”. I love this. But no, we sisters here in America do not LOVE being told we are not appreciated. Many of us have protested, you may not have heard of the young sisters at Spelman College who protested the appearance of Nelly on their campus. Many of us do reject the violence, degradation and exploitive nature of most hip hop videos and advertisements aimed at black American culture. But the media and Hollywood is potent and powerful. We are often times rejected as angry black women, man-hating and worse.
Black men, especially black men in the entertainment industry (much like what Wale attempted, but on a more grandiose scale), are the ones need to step up and produce music, videos, movies and more that elevate black women. Black men need to join black women in protecting our image on an international scale.
But…if we can’t stop Kanye and Jay-Z from calling themselves “Nigga” publicly while in Paris. I don’t know if we can expect them to call us anything differently on the American or international stage.
Black men need to step up and produce that elevate Black women?????!!!!…are you ok?
Yes, I am perfectly fine.
Lol Lis is a hater. You’re fine, you seem ok. Don’t mind her
Most culturally conscious African men’s only interests are African women. We don’t care what white women are doing. And what you call “degrading” is a love and concern for you, us and our image as Africans here in America. We all know that almost EVERYTHING that is directed to and at us as a questionable act or practice, applies to other ethnicity of women as well. But, THEY are not our primary concern. Yes, there are brothers that have an unhealthy agenda when it comes to our queens…but they are the minority, and simply need more enlightenment. Please recognize that the majority of us brothers do not “attack” or “degrade” you sisters, but rather attempt to provide “constructive and caring criticism”…and most of us expect the same in return.
Shut up and go away..This isn’t about concern…Somewhere or somehow you bastards got it into your heads that you have the RIGHT to police Black women…..Black women do not need instruction or criticism from MALES WHO CANNOT FEED THEMSELVES!….The nerve of you ..especially considering the state of Black men anywhere they are in this world….why don’t you instruct and criticize your brothers about getting themselves together and maybe they could compete with MEN! instead of competing with Black women. The nerve of them…
U must be a bitter black women…..OR YOU’RE ALWAYS CHOOSING
THESE KIND OF GUYS.. I have NEVER DATED OUTSIDE MY BLACK RACE AND I HAVE NEVER
BEEN DEGRADED OR ABUSED BY A BLACK MAN.. SO KEEP YOUR NEGATIVITY TO YOURSELF.. DON’T
KNOW WHAT BLACK MEN YOU’VE BEEN AROUND BUT THE BLACK MEN I KNOW ARE NOTHING
LIKE YOUR VERSION AND CAN COMPETE WITH
ALL MEN… IT’S PPL LIKE YOU WHO GIVE THE BLACK RACE A BAD NAME FEEDING INTO THE NEGATIVE
STEREOTYPE..I CAN SEE WHY YOU MAY HAVE BEEN TREATED THAT WAY, BECAUSE OF YOUR
IDEAS OF BLACK MEN.. YOU GET WHAT YOU PUT OUT THERE AND IF THAT HAS BEEN YOUR
EXPERIENCE WITH BLACK MEN..MAYBE YOU NEED TO CHECK YOURSELF AND FIND OUT WHY
YOU KEEP ENDING UP WITH MEN LIKE THIS…
I was trying to ignore you but LOOOOOOL!!!!! at all of your comments.
Ummm…. Lis, Joey Coco is not responsible for causing the apparent pain you are radiating. So…project a little less? What he said was matter of fact, nothing to get so offended over. Yes both men and women can use CONSTRUCTIVE criticism for the sake of our unity. Yes, strong black men should coach the younger gents, but should also encourage our women. No, you don’t need to do all of this for me, yes you are absolutely beautiful, faucet never chance for anyone etc. Is needed in our community. And hourly such words can land on a strong woman’s undamaged ears and be warmly received.
I’m struggling with being a mom all over again. My husband and I have 4 school aged kids and now we have a baby. All my shirts are stretched and milk stained and I’ve barely even brushed my hair. If not for my husband I might walk out the house with a boob half way popping out. But he’ll kindly check me. I’m not offended. I’m actually grateful lol.
You obviously never read all of my comments or comprehended them…but ok……good luck
Wale ‘s post told you exactly that you are loved and value. He apologized for the role of black men to the extent they have participated in creating a climate where black women may feel the need to disfigure themselves in an attempt to “be more attractive”How could this very simple message be misconstrued to be something negative……SMH
I agree but it’s because alot of Black women do not know their worth/have low self esteem….which ironically they could change alot if they stopped paying attention to most of what Black males say and do….I.e.get away from anyone or anything that devalues you…it is odd..that Black women pay so much attention to males who degrade and dehumanize them every chance they get instead of getting away from them….WHO CARES WHAT BLACK MEN THINK OR DO…MOST OF THEM DO NOT FEED YOU.
Hi lis-
maybe you can provide me with some insight on why there are so many black American women against interracial dating ? I see a lot talk about “black love ” …but black men don’t say it back so who exactly are these women representing black love with ? And why if most of the males could care less do the women not take that for a clue as to stop saying “black love ” ? As much as I personally like seeing black men and black women in loving relationships – I’m a black woman first. My prime interest is in seeing black women being loved genuinely period. Any man can provide that love.
Everything you said…I don’t get it either at all…Black women act as if Black men are the only men on earth….They say things like I don’t want nothing but a Black man, always going on about how mu ch they love chocolate men, on and on about black love, etc etc….mind you, you NEVER hear Black men saying the same….Black men are very colorist….they insult and demean darkskinned (and every Black woman really) in public/ in person every chance they get. They don’t know nothing about black love and only talk about it when they want to get something(support, money, sex, etc) from Black women…If they have access to non Black women and those women accept them they choose those women over Black women. They have never proclaimed nothing but a Black woman and they never will. A small percentage of them marry….
of that 25% are married to non Black women, especially the educated and well off….and have you heard rap music and hiphop…..it’s heart stopping mindboggling hate music against Black women and yet Black women support and make excuses for it and it’s been going on for decades….on and on….and on….Yet so many Black women segregate and isolate and limit themselves from other groups of men……So I can only conclude fear, Low self esteem/self worth, stupidity (sorry), etc…it’s mindboggling because Black women are outnumbered in the millions in the US by non Black men…and I believe even with racism and the socalled European standard of beauty that they believe work against them…imo…There are non Black men out there who want and need them..These men dont even know they want and need them But they do….it’s up to Black women though to find them and I don’t mean chasing men…Black women don’t have to chase or kiss any man’s or group of men’s asses…but they have to stop segregating themselves and enter the mainstream…I.e just mingle, live around, take care of/be themselves in school and work and the men will find them…
but these men are not coming to black neighborhoods/Black women are not going to find them in black neighborhoods….maybe Black women want to die…..because that’s what is going to happen/has happened to a lot of them in black environments….whether physical, mental, psychological, or spiritual death…..MY OPINION.
Lol amen. Black men don’t limit themselves so who exactly are black women limiting ourselves for ? Ghosts?
Yep.
YALL REALLY NEED TO STOP PUTTING ALL BLACK MEN IN THE SAME BOX.. YALL ARE JUST AS BAD AS THOSE WHO SAY ALL BLACKS ARE CRIMINALS.. NOT ALL BLACK MEN DATE OUTSIDE THEIR RACE SO STOP ACTING LIKE THEY DO.. YALL WANT TO DATE OUTSIDE YOUR RACE FINE BUT DON’T USE THE EXCUSE THAT ALL BLACK MEN DOES IT….
COMMON NOW NEVER HEAR A BLACK MAN SAY IT… WHAT THE HECK DO YOU THINK THIS STORY IS ABOUT????? A BLACK MAN SAYING HE LOVES HIS BLACK SISTER JUST THEY WAY THEY ARE…. AND I DON’T SEE ANYONE HAVING A FIT ABOUT OTHER RACES DECLARING THEIR LOVE FOR THEIR RACE.. WHAT?? WHY CAN’T THE BLACK RACE SHOW LOVE FOR THEIR RACE???????????????
Non black people are not exactly lining up to marry black people. So let’s stop the delusions. Black men and women must fix their own problems if they want a better future.
yeah right that why these white high school and college girls are “lining up” with Black players because they know they will be rich later down the lines.. and sad to say the Black player will be looking at non-black women once their tax brackets changes…
Well 25% of married black males are married to non black women…and the numbers for Black women are also rising (thank god)…so someone’s are apparently lining up to marry Blacks…but I’m not really concerned with Black men.
Your facts are wrong too much bitterness you can’t even think straight. 90% of black men are married to black women. Just make sure you get your tubes tied so you can stop creating children you apparently hate.
Why does anyone have to line up ? You only need one.
many BLACK WOMEN are against interracial dating because they believe in CREATING BLACK FAMILIES..WHAT’S SO WRONG WITH THAT.. and not any man can provide love…..
How do you create a black family culture when the men don’t desire the same thing ? Don’t men take the reigns of creating their race’s stability ? Why is this laid at the feet of black women to do ?
there are just as many women of other races who do the same.. paying attention to males who degrades you is not a BLACK WOMEN DISEASE….And you should care what a BLACK MAN THINKS IF YOU ARE A BLACK WOMEN JUST AS THE REVERSE IS THE SAME. IF WE STOP CARING ABOUT OUR OWN PEOPLE’S OPINION OF OUR SELVES YOU START BELIEVING THE OPINIONS THAT THE OTHER RACES HAVE OF YOU. HOW DO WE CREATE STRONG BLACK FAMILIES IS WE DO NOT LISTEN/LIKE OR RESPECT OUR OWN RACE OPINIONS???????????
He’s black, so he’s addressing his women. He obviously doesn’t seem to care about what white women do, because he would’ve addressed them
What does that have to do with my comment?
You’re obviously upset with him about the message, and I’m just telling you that it’s dumb to be so butthurt because he’s addressing the women that he cares about. He didn’t address white girls because he’s not white, he’s black.
Tell it!!!!!
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I think most of the comments shown within the article are straight BS. If he HAD be inclusive to white women, then there would have been a problem with him not focusing on the plight of black women. Let’s be for real, none of the black women who have had these enhancements did so because of CoCo, Kim K or any other Caucasian woman in the “Reality” world. And truth be told-again-women of color ARE partaking in these enhancements…..a WHOLE LOT just as we see on our television screens and social media. Why they so mad?
This comment right here! Thank you.
Speak for yourself and those you know….I don’t know 1 Black woman who has done this to herself….You Black women do not seem to know when you are being policed/spoken down to…thats why these Black males think they can say anything to us or about us because too many of yo u agree with them and then attempt to police other Black women instead of telling these Black men to f off.
AGAIN YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE..WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT ALL BLACK WOMEN HAVE BEEN POLICED AND SPOKEN DOWN TO???????????TRUST ME THE BLACK MEN THAT I KNOW…KNOWS THEY CAN’T JUST SAY ANYTHING TO ME..YOU ARE GIVING BLACK WOMEN A BAD NAME.. LIKE WE ARE ALL STUPID AND WILL GO FOR ANYTHING.. AGAIN WHAT EVER NEIGHBORHOOD YOU ARE LIVING IN OR YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE HAVE YOU FKD UP FOR REAL.. SEEK HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m truly shocked at the backlash that Wale is receiving for this, his delivery might be wrong but I think his intentions are in the right place. I absolutely do not believe women are enhancing their booties to such caricature effect (as in the photo) just for their own pleasure. Whether we want to admit it or not, we do make these changes so we can be appealing to others, its about how we look to others, if you were going to be imprisoned in your own house for the rest of your life, i doubt you would get a booty enhancement. Chinese women aren’t enhancing their asses because Chinese men like it flat, black men like it FAT (lets keep it honest here). Having all that extra booty makes it more challenging to shop for clothes (a problem that some of us shapely girls already have) it’s heavy, slows you down and it attracts extra attention to just that of your body. This XXXL booty was (and still is) dominant in the strip clubs where strippers make their money and the ladies with the XXXL got most of the attention & most of the money, in order to be competitive, other ladies started enhancing their behinds as well, and please note, I’m not referring to the enhancements that look natural and make you wonder if it’s real or not, I’m referring to the ones that are over exaggerated and doesn’t look natural AT ALL.
Wale’s is black, his audience is black, he sees a problem in his black community and he is addressing it. The younger generation is easily influenced by what they see on videos and reality shows, so I think he is just trying to discourage them from doing this, some can’t afford to do it professionally and are attending these pumping parties that are causing disfigurements and even death. Irregardless of the term that he uses, he is address butt augmentation in a whole whether it be implants, shots, fat transfer WHATEVER, some of you are just focused on his words and not his message. “We LIKE y’all for being sexy, but we LOVE y’all for everything else”. Maybe its just me though.
You are so easily impressed …
Lol…Thank you…As if most Black males care about Black women or the Black community.
I’m sure you can speak for most black men, I can only speak for the black men I’ve been around and yes, they care about me. Maybe you need to re-evaluate the black men that you surround yourself with since most of the ones you know, don’t care about black women.
Ok Kookie
Can we stop believing the twisted messages we are fed by a media that is controlled by people who are not black, and then running around feeding other black people this type vile, anti-black propaganda that is geared toward the destruction of the Black family?
Ok….
Forgot to add…..What Black family? Most Black men do not marry…of the few that do 25% are married to non Black women…most Black children are born out of wedlock….look…you all can pretend not to know these FACTS but stop responding to me.
WOW SO SOORY SOMEONE STUMPED ON YOUR HEART SO HARD THAT THERE NO COMING BACK.. I hope you are not BLACK With YOUR fkd up opinion about BLACK MEN…
No, I’m just not so judgmental and in this day and age, I try to see the good in people instead of look for another way to attack them. But hey, no matter what he said, he would never be right, if you can’t please them all why try right?
I don’t get when sisters say “I’m not so judgemental ” …so you just walk around life being used and never being cautious ? Judgement is a human gift. And people are using it against us all the time so I think it’s time to wake up ….life is not an entire church service.
Clearly you don’t know what the word “judgmental” means and I’m not judging your ability to use a dictionary on that because I don’t know you & I don’t care to. If you have to be judgmental in order to not be used, go right ahead. I was given other “gifts” for that. And I see why you don’t get it, you have to know the meaning of the word in order to get it. I’d like to focus on the article though, so you can save your personal attacks for the next person on this blog that directed a comment to you. I expressed my views on Wale’s comment, you should do the same and keep it moving.
….what ?
AND LIFE FOR ALL BLACK WOMEN DON’T CONSIST OF BEING USED…..
AND YOU ARE SO EASILY FOOLED……
Irregardless?
Thank you, but try to focus on the message, not just the words 🙂 I wouldn’t want you to spend your whole day making corrections across the internet.
EXACTLY!!!!!!
It’s not fair how these women are lashing out on Wale in my eyes. I understand that the feminist in women may make them inexpedient when situations like this pop up. But if you really look into it for years black women have been constantly disappointed by black men and how they worship women of other races for their black attributes. Wale being a young black man has decided in his own way to let black women that he loves them and feels that he has done them a disfortune by making it seem like the big butt is the only way they can be attractive. He’s apologizing and trying to build the self-esteem of a black women to let black women know that there are black men out there who think that a black women’s beauty surpasses and other races whether her but is big or not. And yes his opinion on whether he found it attractive or not was not really necessary but he didn’t include women of other races because he felt his duty was to his women. The beautiful black women that have been under appreciated since forever. He felt it was his need to let them know that they are beautiful and they don’t need booty shots to prove it.
Any black woman alive has the right to do whatever they want to their bodies for whatever reason ! Why are we so quick to judge? There has never been this much debate about any other cosmetic procedure. Why?? Why isn’t there the same debate about breast augmentation, liposuction or penis enhancements? Then we categorize buttock augmentation into one category: “Booty Shots” FYI.. There are various methods of the procedure such as fat transfer, implants, and the illegal black market injections that can cause deformities and even death. I got a fat transfer to my butt, because I’ve always been top heavy and wanted to balance out my physique. I did it tastefully and for myself, because I wanted to look better in my clothes. A man’s adoration never motivated me to alter anything about me except maybe my last name. So, to anyone who has anything to say about it, “Have a lik talk with Jesus, cuz he’s the only one who gives two —–.
TODAY we are going through so much RACIALLY! Black women are strong we are the back bones most women are loosing that, can’t no one tell me different! I see it everyday! Our women need better role models and infrastructure. MY OPINION but I think more African Descent- American women would PERFER to hear our men talk more down about those caucus mountains-women, more then they do our queens. I’m sure white men talk about there women but of course it’s not blown all out of proportion, posted all over social media so on and so forth! I guess I see his post different, Looked at the picture and the wording and his apology, he’s staying I have not help the cause! If anything I am adding this continuous issue of self hatred. The physical and mental slavery to our/ my ppl, our beautiful women has got to come to a STOP!
Honestly I didn’t think see harm,I have analyzed the picture and the wording as well as his statement. He couldn’t name drop, but I’m sure he was referring to Nikki, she has such HUGE influence ON OUR women UNFORTUNATELY!
Our body structure at its natural way is what makes us so beautifying. By our queens adding more to the derrière, piling make-up on adding fake this fake that! Not what make you more beautiful! Not down talking so dont JUMP ON THE DEFENSE Hey to each its own do YOU, the picture make sense to me! Ppl can stay this all day but can we accept ourselves being natural all the way through, no make up, no larger boobies, butt injection no weaves, no designer clothes, bags and cars would that make them feel less then??!?!? Most would say YES but how many would actually do without! I say this cause I am professional braider, who wore weaves, fake lashes wanted fake boobs, already got the butt, no need to add. Wore make-up had designer this and that. For years my husband would say your beautiful but I like you naturally beautiful. Couldn’t understand it! Until I had a sister pull me to the light, I stop everything gave away all my designer bags cloths and car. Once I found self love of who I am without all that I felt free and it’s so liberating. That’s worked for me may not work for most. But what I’m getting at is if our Kings are pointing out something, take a step back and look. The picture is bigger then what the eyes can see, if you open up that third eye you could see things more clearer.
Imhotep!
I think Wale was playing into a mythology of black women. If anything, his post speaks to the type of women he surrounds himself with. Black women are actually the MOST educated group in the US. We are a fast growing group of entrepreneurs and we have definitely outpaced black men. It’s funny we don’t see that mentioned.
To me, this feels super paternalistic and a case of misplaced sympathy. If someone wants a fake butt, why can’t they have it? Why the need to comfort a person who didn’t ask for his input?
It seems obvious to me that he is not talking to women who are happy with themselves they way they are based solely on the efforts they put in naturally. He is talking about women who get enhancements to improve their careers in an industry run by men that has encouraged them to alter their bodies this way. I believe he singled out black women because that is who he cares about. I am not sure what this backlash is about because it is well known that the entertainment industry is dominated by men and it is men’s opinions that are largely acknowledged.
Women should do what they want with their bodies but they should also be honest with themselves about the reason these aesthetics are even valued and why they really want to do something so drastic. These aesthetics are typically not because women think women should have tiny waists, large hips and big breasts but because men (many of them) think so. Women may just be following a trend but who set the standard?
Performers go on and on about how they want a woman with a big ass, women who have larger butts are on the cover of men’s magazines and in videos and all of a sudden black women (and others), even those who already have larger butts, are having butt implants. Surely people can see the cause and effect there. Why go in on Wale for apologizing for his part in making women desire something for their bodies other than what they have?
Women have lost their lives over this. Although I do agree that the insult to the woman’s figure was extra and weakened his apology, I believe an apology is long overdue.
I applaud Wale for standing up and saying what he did. No one is saying that other races don’t enhance their bodies. But him being a black man, that loves black women, is addressing us. Especially since we have a history in this country of being told we aren’t beautiful and that are bodies aren’t the right type of body.
I absolutely do not applaud him. For standing up to do what? Beat up black women in some thinly veiled apology?
Black women are the most educated group in America. We are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in America.
The entire reason butt injections exist is to emulate what some of us have naturally, the curves we are famous for.
This misplaced apology speaks less for black women as a group and more to the sort of women Wale surrounds himself with.
What are you talking about? Alot of black women get praised for being educated, but that’s not the point here. If you haven’t already noticed a lot of black women feel they need to meet certain expectations to make a man happy because of women like kim kardashian and ice t wife and amber rose. I see nothing wrong with him saying to his beautiful black women that they are beautiful without injections. Also if you read it clearly he said: WE LOVE YALL FOR BEING SEXY. BUT WE LOVE OTHER THINGS TOO. I guess that went over a few people heads. Now if you was thinking on a more positive note you would say that he liked you for being educated as well. Dont be so quick to bash him cause he didnt say it the way you wanted him to. Your negative comment and everybody else negative comment just probably made him say F*** YALL
agreed.
damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
i don’t have a problem with anything he said. i wish people would stop being offended by every little thing, esp. in this instance when too many of these girls are doing this to get the eye of black women.
i just don’t think it’s always necessary to overthink things and bust out a feminist argument for everything. sometimes, you’ll just talk yourself into a bizarre contradictory rabbit hole when you do that. and yes, i believe in feminism. but there, what he said was not a bad thing at all.
I don’t see a problem with what is Wale said. Is her wrong? Highly unlikely. If what he posts offend some black women then they must think he’s talking about them. I don’t have butt injections so his post doesn’t apply to me. So I’m not going to get upset. I agree with the other person in the comments. He’s not talking about Kim K because she’s not black. He’s talking to BLACK women only.
I love the fact that a black man is stating his love for a black women and that black women should love themselves more. I understand that some women do it for themselves, but some women do it for men and that is the point he is trying to convey, because to the media there is always something to fix about or on black women.
Good Job, Michelle. I don’t know what to say but women don’t need butt injections. If you want a big butt, eat more.
As far as butt enhancements, You can get cancer and maybe surgery to remove it. It’s not worth it. Everything will be trendy. Everything we see is trendy. Any women below who is commenting truth, Respect to you. I agree.
Why are these women so angry? Why would Wale care enough about the other races of women to address them? He should have left the post up and stood his ground.
I just find it ironic that you call the women angry for standing up for themselves but not Wale for judging them in the first place. There is something about black American culture that is incredibly hateful of its own women. It’s sick.
I call b.s. on this from Wale. This is pure mockery to women, basically. First, he is assuming that the average black woman gives a hoot about what knuckle-dragging, sexist rappers think, with lyrics like “hoe this, bitch that”, lyrics so inflammatory that I would be banned simply for quoting songs from rappers like Wale. Men create these insecurities in women, and now they want a pat on the back for realizing it’s wrong?! This is why men are always so far behind mentally than women. We allow men to get by with the bare minimum when it comes to common sense, human decency, and empathy. I am sick of it.
I know for real. Those of us black girls that don’t have large butts.. got the message loud and clear that the black men that want a video h0e don’t want us. So why would we care anyways about butt enhancements unless we wanted to be attractive to superficial men.
I also agree with him. Those taking issue with him addressing it to black women could consider that it’s black women that he cares about most!
He doesn’t care.
If he did care he’d know the truth about black women. Black women are doing big things in the US! We are out performing black men.
This paternalistic “sympathy” would be better aimed at his own group, the men who objectify buttocks to the point of throwing all their money at it.
Maybe he is gearing it towards black women because he’s black and would like black women to stop objectifying themselves and be themselves. Maybe he sees it mainly on black women because it’s common in atlanta and miami where the strip clubs are filled with black women. Blacks are objectified and sexualized at childhood.

Why gear it at all? What other race of man is even doing this to his race of women so publicly ? Only black men do this. It’s not normal.
I have to agree with Wale on this one. If these women were getting injections for their own personal standards, then why so big? Yes women of African descent are known for having curves, but on average you don’t see such exaggerations as Miss Miami (the model featured). Why is having a butt that big even necessary? I can only imagine was physical discomforts it must cause. The thing is, these people who responded negatively are deep in their feelings. Wale is addressing the Black Community because his own community is what he is concerned with. I by no means want to knock anyone who is considering or has had cosmetic surgery but you have to stop and ask yourself if you are making these choices for yourself or to please someone else.
I just saw an old 90s shabba ranks vid. Actually safaree samuels usurped his vid and used it himself. The dancers and hot girls were very slim with tiny bottoms. A bit more shapely than white women but these giant balloon animal butts are extremely rare. Black women are NOT shaped like these video vixens and these real housewives. Injections are running rampant.
I applaud Wale for stepping up and saying something. I don’t see a problem with what he said and hate that he felt he had to delete it because of backlash. What I don’t like is that since something was directed at specifically black women, that people had a problem with it. It’s becoming the norm that people are backtracking on saying the black women are beautiful because it doesn’t include everyone else. Well we, as black women, are beautiful, in and of ourselves, without needing to mention other groups of people!
I’m sorry but I must agree with him to an extent. U get injections in your behind to look “beautiful” “desirable” or sexy to yourself? ?? I’m not buying that. Miss me with those lies and self justifications. I believe most cosmetic surgery or procedures are done to mold others perception of you. Whether you do it for monetary gain or self esteem boosting at the end of the day it’s done to please others in return for thier desire or approval of you and your “enhanced features”
i dont see the problem with what he said. when you see these video vixens they all have ridiculously big butts. wale has said that he prefers and appreciates the black woman, so that is why he directed this particular message towards black women. rappers and the media have put black women at the bottom of the scale, and even more so have pressured them into believing they need to have light skin long straight hair and a fat ass to even be able to compete with other races of women. wale is just stepping up and saying that the shit is wrong, that we as black women are already beautiful, and yet people have a problem with that? would you rather him say he only dates women with butt impants?
