  1. I am from St.Lucia ( very hot atmosphere ), my hair is color treated and short (big chop) and naturally dry….my to go to conditioner ORS replenishing conditioner, after washing my hair with this,my hair feels soft smooth and my curls are define

  2. I need hair advice!

Anyone else ever have a problem with ends that WON’T stretch?? I try to smooth hair with a leave-in, and I can smooth it down from root to mid easily, but the ends remain a sort of fuzzy ball of snarls. help!

  3. i dont really prep my hair for detangling i only detangle when i wash my hair which is once a week but i do detangle i use color me happy conditioner by herbal essences which i mixed with the condiotioning tubes that come with the dark and lovely hair dye since my hair is dyed i also mix it with cocounut oil and argan oil. i also detagle with moisture milks strawberries and cream conditioner when i co- wash.

  4. Hi,this is Junie Hickley, just found your Blog on google and i must say this blog is great.may I share some of the article found in this website to my local mates?i’m not sure and what you think?anyway,Thank you!

  5. I am alittle confused by some of the posts about greasing your scalp. I thought oil was produced in the scalp and you only needed to grease/moisturize your ends. Im just wondering?

    1. I believe it depends on the individual. My scalp produces ZERO natural oils or if it does it is such a scant amount that it is not detectable. Since I barely have any natural oils my scalp is ALWAYS dry. I need to keep it moisturized with oils.

I think this is where the dividing line comes in where some people must wash their hair every day because their bodies produce so much oil vs those who’s body hardly produces any oils and they can go a long while without having to wash their hair.

  6. Could someone please tell me what TWA stands for? and I love this site. It is so informational and so helpful, and I need all of the help I can get going thru this transition. Thanks natural chickas!!

  7. I just discovered Paul Mitchell’s Super Skinny Daily Treament conditioner and used it on my daughter’s hair last night. This conditioner is truly amazing, it left her hair soft, smooth, and moisturized as promise.

  8. It used to be Nivea Deep Daily Conditioner, but now I’m using Talijah Waajid Detangler.

Depending on how long it’s been since I last detangled, I can use a whole bottle of product to detangle, so I can no longer afford to buy those more expensive detanglers (Biolage used to be my favorite until they changed the formula).

  9. I enjoy using HE HH moisturizing poo & cond. It doesn’t leave my hair dry & brittle but makes it very soft & supple. While I’ve only been natural going on 9 mths, I transitioned for 4 mths prior to my BC. I’m new to this, ladies, but thank you soooo much for all of your product reviews. I can’t wait to try some of them out! Peace & Blessings!

  10. Hello Hydration works wonders on my hair. Once I put it in my hair in the shower, within a minute or two I can even comb it out with my fingers, and it feels soo soft.

  11. I have been using V05 Moisture Milks (strawberries and cream). I just bought Herbal Essences Hello Hydration because I have heard so much about it. Anything that keeps the comb gliding I love.

  12. I love Aussie Moist, not only does it provide great slip for my 4c hair, it smells great and is easy on the wallet.

  13. My 3c/4a curls love Yes To Cucumbers, Kinky Curly Knot Today and Yes To Carrots for detangling!! 🙂

  14. Silicon Mix from my native Dominican Republic is the best for detangling/conditioning. Your hair is soft, rich, and the smell is great. give it a try

  15. *EVOO rinses + any conditioner or
    *Aussie Moist or
*Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner or
    *Kinky Curly Knot Today

  16. Plain old conditioner does the job for me… Anything from Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner to Organics Hair Mayonnaise. I tend to detangle only after washing/conditioning.

  17. @mangormadness: Yes that helps, and makes sense now that you have explained it…I’m still trying to learn new things and understand my hair…… I appreciate everyones guidance…thanks to all

  18. @Stacey: Detangling is combing or brushing ones hair to get rid of tangles and shed hairs. A lot of naturals detangle their hair while the conditioner is still in it to provide slip. Slip is the ease of combing/brushing that comes from the conditioner lubricating the hair strands.

You should section your hair and detangle with the conditioner still in your hair. After detangling you can rinse it out and go on with your routine. Rinsing out the conditioner before detangling takes away any slip and will result in breakage.

    I hope this helps!

  19. I use Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut. I could probably find something even better, but I’ve been having to scrounge the bottom of my purse for change, lately, so I use what I have.

  20. I’m still a fairly new natural so I have product and information overlaod. When you say slip/detangling what exactly do you mean? I wash my hair weekly with Organics Olive Oil shampoo then conditon with shea moisture cond.. rinse that out then section by section I pull my hands throught hair and then use a brush with the plastic tips to get through hair…I twist out weekly so the brush is to get the dead hairs that have shed.. Is there an easier or rather better way… Please help guide a sista…

  21. I just start using it but I’m in love..shhhh don’t tell my boyfriend. lol.
    Giovanni 50:50 Hydrating-Calming Conditioner.
EXCELLENT slip. SUPERB moisture (i normally oil my scalp with either castor oil, CD’s Lisa’s Hair Elixar or Doo Gro Stimulating growth oil when i DC). THE BESTEST when it comes to detangling my gazillion curls

  22. I picked up some Giovanni 50/50 conditioner at Marshalls for cheap and is a great detangler, very moisturizing, and doesn’t cause build up on my scalp.

  23. I love Kinky Curly Knot Today and wish wish wish wish WISH I could make a homemade version. I’ve been searching for a recipe that uses Mangopowder and also for a source of Mangopowder. Any ideas? Thanks

  24. @Diana I switch up my conditions (HE being the fav but when I need to clean my hair i use things with less cones like Nature’s Gate Jojoba, Suave shea butter and almond oil or Jason’s Biotin) then follow with my deep conditioner.

  25. hmm. Thanks ladies…
I have a bottle of HE HH but i’ve only used it to mix my Henna. I wasnt sure it would be good enough to deep condition…. I will definitely try detangling with it then…
    peace…

    1. I Love HE HH…It worked really well w/me the other day…i normally condished w/it and when I detangled, I had my leave in condish that consists of Giovanni leave in, jojoba oil, castor oil and aloe vera juice and it detangled quite easily, w/o a Tangle Teezer!! LOL

    1. I use Aussie 3 minute deep conditioner to detangle in the shower or Mixed chicks deep conditioner. Afterwards I apply Kinky-Curly’s leave in conditioner/detangler.

  26. @Diana I usually use the same conditioners to deep condition. I just leave them in for about 30-45 min with a shower cap over it and sit under the dryer.

  27. Aussie Moist is my #1 Followed Suave almond & shea butter then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted. All are wonderful and great for my pocket as well!

  28. @Diana: Yes. I only use the Nature’s Gate Jojoba when detangling. I use AO HSR Conditioner or Shea Moisture DTM to deep condition. With that said, some ladies use a DC that has slip so they can detangle with it as well.

  29. I’m glad to see so many cheap conditioners on here.
One question for you ladies ( know this is not the question section 😳
Do you use a separate deep conditioner?

  30. I’m an HE Hello Hydration stan but recently I tried HE None of Your Frizzness and was amazed at the amount of slip it gave. I think the key ingredient is cyclopentosiloxane (or something like that).

  31. I love my Earthly Delight Conditioner, fair warning – it’s not cheap. When I’m on a more frugal budget I use Organix Smoothing Shea Butter Conditioner. My hair is 4b.

  32. On my daughter’s hair, I only do a full detangle when I am deep conditioning it with coconut oil (I use Spectrum- from the grocery store)
She has fine, kinky hair that curls if I let it be.
Otherwise I “finger detangle” while it’s wet I’ve just started using Carol’s Daughter Hair milk conditioner (the new one that rinses out) and I really like it.

  33. HH Hello Hydration and Aussie Moist 3-Minute Miracle. This one NEVER fails me! Tangels don’t stand a chance.

  34. Herbal Essences Hydralicious Self Targeting Conditioner!

Ladies take note that most of these posts are referencing cheapie conditioners, lol.

  35. White Rain Coconut Conditioner 33oz = $1
    VO5 Moisture Milks 12oz = $1
    Alba Botanical Leave-In Conditioner 7.5 oz = $9

  36. Kinky Kurly Knot Today literally MELTS my tangles and has really good slip. Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle literally is a miracle lol. I don’t use it any more cause I’m going all natural but it is amazing for detangling in the shower.

  37. Suave Almond and Shea Butter!!!!!

But, dang it, I keep getting an itch to try Hello Hydration from Herbal Essences. I think I’ll hit up Target.

  38. Nature’s gate jojoba is amazing! Great slip for 4c hair! Also leaves my hair feeling AWESOME

  39. i guess i’ll be the odd man out. i think aubrey organics white camelia conditioner does AMAZING things for my hair. it doesn’t help that i’m an aubrey addict either 😀

  40. Kinky Curly Knot Today and Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner are my fave detanglers. Both are relatively expensive, but they’re worth it because I can recognize all the ingredients without the help of a dictionary 🙂

  41. I love Kinky Curly Knot Today. I would love Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Conditioner if it didn’t leave my hands quite so slick.

  42. My hair has recently started tangling more..so I’m on the hunt for a better detangling conditioner. I have a bottle of the Hello Hydration that I need retry….and also heard about that Suave Almond and Shea butter being good.

  43. @AusetAbena

Did the change the ingredients on YTC?!..i went to purchase about a month ago and the Yes to Carrots had a silicone listed in the ingredients..im itching to try this but am attempting to go the curly girl way..I use Giovanni Smooth As Silk to detangle and I had no problems and it leaves my hair super soft..

  44. HE Hydrolicious just gives me hair life!!!!!!! I tried it for the first time yesterday and it’s the best conditioner I’ve ever used for slip.. Bye Bye Aussie.. Hello HE

  45. Suave humectant hands down; its cheap, moisturizes well (even once hair dries), thick, have a lot of slip and smells great

@beth, I love the suave professional line!!

@ all the hello hydration lovers- I have been dying to try but i just cannot seem to stray away from my suave and vo5 moister milk.

@janique- i tries aussie moist and it does moisturize very well but every time I go to purchase condish suave is always on sale so i go with the cheapest one since it does the same thing

    great post

  46. Vo5 Mouisture Milks, Lustrasilk Shea Butter! I have HE Hello Hydration, but I have yet to detangle with it, from the looks of things I’m going to have to try that.

  47. I use Nature’s Gate Jojoba Conditioner to detangle. It has wonderful slip and has no cones.

  48. OMG Janique. You said the two I was going to name. The Aussie Moist Conditioner and the Yes to Cucumbers. I like YTC because it has great slip even though there are no cones in it. I also like the Suave Almond and Shea Butter, but not as much as the first two I named.

  49. I’m with Beth, Suave Naturals Almond and Shea butter conditioner has really good slip and smells nice too!

  50. Renpure Organics My Pretty Hair is Parched conditioner is my hands down favorite for traditional detangling. However, now that I deep condition and detangle before I wash my hair, I use lekair mango cholesterol mixed with coconut oil. I’ll sometimes add some thin conditioner like Renpure or TJ Nourish Spa to stretch the conditioner if my hair is especially tangly (like it was yesterday, with 2 weeks worth of shed hair to clear out).

  51. I’m sorry ladies i’m a 70s baby!!! I have always used Queen Helene cholesterol condionter. My hair doesn’t respond well to any other conditioner or detangler. I haven’t had a chance to try out Herbal Essence Hello Hydration. until i do, Queen helene is my fav!!!!
I love to use this product in the shower with my denman brush!

  52. Hello Hydration is my fav cheapie. Fav for wash and gos. Kinky Curly Knot today is heaven as well. AMAZING when used together! (one for cowash other to moisturize)

  53. So far nothing beats HE Hello Hydration. I’m just afraid using it for a prolonged period will make my hair too accustomed and then it will lose its power….

  54. My favorite product is Pantene Pro-V conditioner. Oh I love it so much…and I know how some people feel about mineral oil, but this is the only conditioner that keeps my hair moisturized.

  55. Hands down Suave Almond & Shea Butter conditioner… it melts in my hair and softens it so thoroughly that detangling is a breeze 🙂

  56. For me definitely Aussie Moist conditioner…the tangles just melt away. I also use Yes To cucumbers conditioner. It detangles well too.

  57. I love that you have a photo of Hello Hydration showing for this post, because that is exactly what I was going to suggest! I love Herbal Essence Hello Hydration!
