*Update*
We just learned that stylist Felicia Leatherwood is behind Teyonah’s goreous look! Felicia is no stranger to BGLH. Back in 2011 we featured a series of gorgeous bridal updos she created.
Wow. Rarely do we see natural hair repped this well on the red carpet! Mad Men Actress Teyonah Parris rocked a gorgeous pompadour updo for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. She plays Dawn Chambers on Mad Men, the first black person to be hired at Don Draper’s firm. She wears a wig for the role, that really hides all the gorgeousness underneath. Check out the photos below, ladies and let us know what you think. We definitely have a new favorite natural celeb on our radar! All photos courtesy of Zimbio.com

Gorgeous! Love the hair, the look. She werked and owned it.
I love this look. She really rocked it.
I can’t come on this website any more, every time I have homework to do a sneak a peak on whats going on and FORGET about everything else lol. I love this look on her truly an African goddess here everything from her hair, makeup, dress is gorgeous! I’m sure her shoe were on top as well.
This is such a beautiful natural hairstyle and such a pretty lady 🙂 Gorgeous
Incredible!!
This is so beautiful and extremely regal in a way. If this is done more often, women will see how truly versatile our natural hair is. You can pin it up elegantly for any special occasion, wear it fro’d out, curly or blown out….that my friends is beautiful! 🙂
LOVE this look! This updo is very is beautiful and the dress color is gorgeous! Way to go and I LOVE MAD MEN!! i knew she looked familiar!!
Perfection!!!
Essence posted an article today with celebrity hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood and she discusses how she achieved Teyonah’s hairstyle.

She’s a knockout! I hope that her appearance on the red carpet prompts other black actress to show off their natural, beautiful hair.
i adore…
I am so proud and happy as I look at these pics. She’s stunning. Gorgeous.
Amazing … love this!! yes – work it – show em girl!!
black is beautiful!
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!
Lord have mercy! This woman is killing it forever. The fabulous curves of the hair matches the sleek, sexiness of the dress. It all just flows so perfectly.
Work it girl!
Exactly! 🙂
Take a note all the celebs who think they’re representing natural hair by uploading a pic on twitter of their supposedly natural hair. This is how you do it, no need for a caption of ‘no perm’ it is plain for all to see in this gorgeous woman.
“Take a note all the celebs who think they’re representing natural hair by uploading a pic on twitter of their supposedly natural hair.”
THIS.
Gorgeous! That’s the only way I can describe her and her hair! I love it! You betta Werrrrrrk!
Although I don’t like the hairstyle and dress together, I love the beauty and elegance she exudes! There is nothing like an updo on natural hair. Versatility is the name of the game — I would like to see more of her.
She is really representing. This makes me feel good as a black woman.
First of all her name Teyonnah Parris is absolutely gorgeous that matches her overall appearance beautiful and stunning. The hair is the finale which is awesome it stole the show, natural is the way to go.
Teyonah looks absolutely amazing. I love her beautiful natural hair, the updo is flawless and so is her makeup. That purple gown exuded excellence.!!!
A pure version of loveliness! And who said natural hair can’t be posh, elegant and sophisicated! Get it Mr. Parris, I hope other black woman stars follow suit in choosing to go natural or show their natural hair more.
Absolutely gorgeous!!
Beautiful hair, makeup and dress! She made excellent choices for this event! Her photos and image should be everywhere. I will return to watching Mad Men again.
Gorgeous mama! Show these black celebs how it’s done.
Say it again! U do NOT have to wear weave to look nice and this shows it! I am tired of Beyonce’s influence……..its about time naturals had someone to look up to.
I understand as part of her job Teyonnah has to wear protective styles with waves and wigs but she CHOSE to represent with a natural style on the red carpet. 🙂
If more celebs rocked this the weave industry would decline just like relaxer sales…..
Yes! I dream of a time where the wigs, weaves and relaxer industry is no longer supported by black women.
not a fan of the hair; to me hair should soften the look; pompadours remind me of buzz cuts military men get. her lips and eyes are sooooo pretty and her skin color (and her curves) make that dress beautiful.
Elegant from head to toe!!! When will we get to read about her haircare regimen on BGLH?
I found an interviw with Teyonah on this site:
http://www.cfyh.co.uk/2012/05/22/hairspiration-interview-teyonah-parris/
Thanks! That was a good read. I’m sure a lot of BGLH readers can relate to her stories.
Such a gorgeous and classy look!
She is absolutely smokin’!!! And why didn’t I see her included in all those “best dressed” shows about the SAGS???
Yeah, it seems like unless you’re Halle Berry or Beyonce the fashion critics kind of ignore Black female talent.
Yep unless its blond or looks like THEIR beauty standard they are afraid of it because how FIERCE and confident it looks.
Imagine if every naturilsta woman would rock their hair with such authority and pride? I am sure they would pass a law against it….. LOL
Amen Linnie, Ya’ll know if you ain’t light-skinned, hungry-looking, and rockin’ the blond weave, Hollyweird ain’t paying any attention to you if you’re a black woman. It’s unfortunate because Teyonah is one of the best dressed ones that I saw that night, and I love her hair!
This sistah is real, she does not look like a bush wacker fresh from the wild or the unknown!
Very elegant and classy! This is the Afrikan way…
It makes her look like royalty. 🙂
Viola Davis rocked her TWA too (http://glamazonsblog.com/2013/01/kerry-washington-rodarte-white-gown-2013-sag-awards/)
Black is so beautiful!!!!
Oops here is the pic: http://glamazonsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/viola-davis-monique-lhuillier-2013-sag-awards.jpg
she looks pretty
This is beautiful! She is stunning and so beautiful… She truly rocks and is very sexy…
Natural hair is always here but it is ashame that Afrikan women are afraid of their natural beauty and what Yahweh gave them…
Look how great this sistah looks with her natural hair.
She looks like a queen!!! Gorgeous!
LOVE it! Hope to see more of her in other shows and movies, and I definitely hope to see more awesome hairdo’s like this!!! And can we please get a tutorial?! That hair is hot.com and we NEED it! She rocked the mess out of that gown…. everything about this woman stands for regal, glamorous and straight up FABULOUSNESS!!!! She is giving us ALL life!!! Werk girl, werk!
stunning beauty, I actually love her hair WOW!!!!
Stunning from head to toe!!! The hair and the dress are so fierce!
I didn’t know her before but now I know!! She stood out for me in the sea of starlets. I cannot get over how gorgeous she looks from head to toe…and look at that confident smile!!
God I hate the Pompadour style. I also hate it on January Jones. It’s just not flattering at all.
I’m the same way. I hate pompadours I don’t think they flatter anyone. It’s just not my style. I’ve never seen this actress before, she’s very pretty though.
her hair, her face, her dress… love!
She SLAYEDDDD!
i’m not an updo, pompadour, fauxhawk, type of gal but this right here.. this is beautiful!
That hair! That dress!! That look is to die for.
Amazing!Natural hair is here to STAY!
the hair stylist is or should I say genius is Felicia Leatherwood
http://www.lovingyourhairwithnaturalcare.com/
She looks beautiful. So glad this happened in my lifetime. Permed ladies, move out of the way!
The wigged and weaved up women can move out the way as well! Black women need to start rockin their own non-chemically altered hair.
Sophisticated, classy, and oh so FLY!
bglh should find out who did her hair and do an interview or something – tutorial, etc.
or, set something up with Teyonnah if you can.
Celebrity Hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood did it.
This is a regal look!
slay me. right. now.

THIS PICTURE THO…SHE LOOKS SO REGAL AND BEAUTIFUL and she stands out in a GOOD WAY. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an updo like this on the red carpet of a hollywood event. Yes girl yes! *flatlines*
She looks AMAZING!!! I love how our hair can create some seriously fierce looks. The possibilities are endless!
