As I was catching up on indie beauty news I discovered that a popular brand, launched just 6 years ago, has already reduced its bottle size and changed its formula. Customers are understandably frustrated.
As a beauty brand owner myself, I can certainly understand the challenges of keeping a business profitable from year to year. But we’ve managed to keep our products and sizes the same, never degrading or diluting our formulas to save costs.
(Well, a bit of BGLH Marketplace trivia for you – our 12 oz whipped butter used to be 16 oz, and our 6 oz used to be 8 oz. We adjusted our sizes in 2017. But not to save money! We developed a new whipping technique that made the butters even fluffier and they couldn’t fit into the old jars!)
Part of the reason we’ve been able to maintain the integrity of our formulas is through a ‘slow and steady’ approach to growth. We’ve turned down partnerships that would give us broad exposure, but require us to start using water, synthetics and preservatives for shelf stability. That’s a no for us…
It hasn’t always been easy, but this November makes 10 years in business, with the same amazing formulas you know and love.
