What is the shelf life of whipped shea butter?

As a brand we have the unique “problem” of selling to customers fairly infrequently because our products last so long. 

One June I spoke with a customer who wanted to re-order because she was ‘down to her last bit.’ She’d bought six 2.5 oz butters… back in November. 

Fortunately for you (not so much for us, lol) this is typical. 

We’ve gotten used to not seeing customers for 1 or 2 whole seasons…

This happens for two main reasons;

1. Our products don’t contain any filler so a litte bit goes a long way. 

2. Because the products work so well you wind up having to moisturize less. One application lasts for 12 to 48 hours.) 

Because people have their butters for so long shelf life is a question that comes up a lot.

The beauty of butter and oil is that most naturally have very long shelf lives. For example, the shelf life of shea butter is 2 to 3 years and coconut oil has a shelf life of 2 years.

We advertise a 1 year shelf life to account for the time it takes for raw materials to get to us after extraction/harvesting.

And remember, direct heat and sunlight speed up the oxidation/spoiling process of oils, so make sure to keep your whipped butters in a cool, indoor space (room temperature is fine!)
