I wrote previously about my discovery that — as I approach my 40s, and for the first time in my life – I need a workout routine to stay trim.

Well, this theme has carried over to my skincare.

There’s a saying in the black church, “Thank God I don’t look like what I’ve been through.”

Well… A few months back I noticed that I was starting to look a little like what I’ve been through. 🤣🤣

All jokes aside, fine lines and wrinkles and under-eye puff were becoming more prominent on a daily basis. 

I’ve always been more consistent with moisturizing my body, and my whipped butters have done an amazing job of keeping my hands and feet smooth, and my stretch marks at bay.

But like many women, I can get lazy with my nighttime facial routine, and it was starting to show. 

So here’s what I’m doing to keep my skin fresh as I get older;

  1. Heading back to the sauna. Years back I wrote a blog post about how lucky I am that my local YMCA has a steam room and a sauna. But I had really slacked on my sauna use. Saunas are amazing for increasing blood circulation, which can assist in collagen production. I always notice that my skin is incredibly supple and soft for at least a full day after just 10 minutes in the sauna. Moisturizing my body with whipped butter and my face with a light oil is the perfect way to lock in moisture after a sauna session.
  2. Cleansing consistently every night. One of the benefits of our black soap bars is they don’t just cleanse skin, they rejuvenate it because they are so vitamin-rich. Washing all the environmental pollutants off my face every night is critical.
  3. Moisturizing my face consistently every night. For years my combination of rose water followed by raw shea butter worked beautifully as a nightly facial moisturizer. Lately the raw shea has been a bit too heavy, so I’ve switched, for now, to using rose water combined followed by our Unscented Body Oil. It works beautifully and the shea oil and rosehip work together to plump fine lines and wrinkles. I always wake up looking fresh after this combo.
  4. Reducing stress and getting enough sleep. This is actually the main one! Maintaining an atmosphere of calm and keeping a strict bed time has done a lot for my face, lol! 

I’m sure I’ll continue expanding on this routine, but for now it’s worked wonders for keeping my face looking fresh on a daily basis. Shop now!
