Virgin Islands Woman Goes Viral After Showing the Proper Way to Eat a Mango

Seanise Jeffers, the first winner of The Caribbean Got Talent, schooled us on eating a mango last week. As someone who eats mangoes with a knife and fork, I can’t lie, I feel a little ashamed. In her video, which has over 1.1 million views, she gives thorough instruction on how to eat the sometimes complicated fruit.

Non-fruit related side note: I am absolutely loving her accent. Happy mango eating, BGLH!

  1. This is so true for Caribbean folks on how we eat mangoes but her accent sounds like she is from Trinidad

  2. If you travel, you might want to ask your dr for an Epipen or two – I’ve had mango accidents on a plane, in Costa Rica, in Vietnam, in the USVI – people sometimes sneak mango into dishes. Or I’ll say NO MANGO and they forget, put it on, then take it off. Even that tiny bit on a knife will set me off. Always travel with an Epi these days.

    1. Thanks! I carry two Epi pens, all day, everyday smh because I’ve had severe reactions and ended up in the ER due to shock.

  3. That’s the natural way of eating a mango out there in the wild with no knife around. It’s the same in Africa, not only Carribean. Basically, juice dripping is avoided by using a knife blablabla. lol

  4. LOLOL! She is too cute! My Bajan hubs laughs at me wid de knife scoring little squares and flippin’ de cheeks inside out!

  5. That’s definitely the way Caribbean’s eat mangoes. I tie my hair up, and dig right in. I love my Caribbean heritage. Now I feel like eating one.

  6. you only cut a mango with a knife if you plan on sharing it with others. i’m surprised that she didn’t eat the skin too, that’s how i eat it if it’s nice and ripe. but if you don’t eat the skin, you can give the skin and the seed to the livestock (we had a pig and some goats so they always fattened up when i went back home, lol)

  7. shame on you moderators deleting my comment when it didnt even offend. Your moderation makes no sense!!!!!!!!!!

  8. lmfao thats the thirsty way to eat a mango. The way I eat a mango is i cut it into 4 or 5 pieces with the knife. Then I simply eat the pieces I cut by biting into them till theres nothing but skin left. Aint nobody got time to be making a mess in the street like shes doing lol.

  9. It’s how people eat mango in the Caribbean. Spent 25 yrs there, so yes, she’s right. However, some of us are horribly allergic to mangoes – and they’re related to pistachios, cashews, and Brazil nuts. So anyone allergic to those items, skip mangoes. Kryptonite for us!

    1. I’m deathly allergic to mangoes, I rarely have nuts, they make my throat itch and even cherries are a problem now lol I’ve only had a mango once and I ended up in the ER, so I won’t ever be eating them!

    1. We found an artist profile on her that states she was born and raised in St. Croix. Do you have a source that says she is Trini?

      1. I second that, i was born and raised in the VI, Her accent is not virgin islands, it’s Trinidadian. Listwn closely to what she says. Trini’s say all you, Virgin Islanders say ayo….

  10. Both of my parents were born and raised in islands and I’ve never seen either of them bite into a mango that way. Savage ?

    1. Let’s not call our behaviour savage. Remember that label was given to us by Europeans and we are from that.

  11. For some odd reason, Seanise (from my home islands) decided to go with a Trinidadian accent even though you can hear a bit of her Crucian (St. Croix). I wonder why. lol

  12. I….but how are you eating a mango with a knife and fork??? I thought this is how EVERYONE ate a mango– why would anyone use a knife and fork???

    1. When bananas were first imported to Britain the White people use to eat them with a knife and fork. Some of them still do.

  13. Omg do people really eat mangos whole with a knife and fork? I’ve never seen anyone eat a mango with a knife and fork unless its sliced up in a dish or in one of those fruit cups or something lol

    1. As someone from a temperate climate, when I studied abroad and my host mom left me a mango to eat, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH IT. I had to look up online, ‘how to eat a mango.’ By then I had already attempted to saw it in half and made a mess in general. So yeah, fork and knife for me. Since then I eat yellow mangos, and fork and knife it is.

  14. Don’t remember any of my family eating a mango this way but the seed definitely had to be cleaned the same way!
