Perpetua Michel took the words “stand by your man” literally when she appeared at an arbitration hearing as a character witness for her boyfriend and former Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Jason Holding, who was fired for exchanging racist text messages with several fellow officers.
Holding and fellow officers Chris Sousa and James Wells were fired for their involvement, while fourth officer Alex Alvarez resigned. Holding and the other officers exchanged text messages where they referred to beating and killing “niggers.” They also made offensive comments about Cubans, homosexuals, and their colleagues.  Alvarez created and shared a video showing President Obama in fake gold teeth and black people being killed and beaten on sight, sometimes by police officers. Take a look at some of the text messages in question:
The text messages came to light after Alavarez’s ex-girlfriend turned them in to police. Despite the evidence however, Michel, doesn’t believe these messages makes her boyfriend a racist. She argued,
There are people that make mistakes. There are people that say things that they didn’t mean.
According to a CBS Miami report, she goes on to say that she doesn’t believe Holdings used the “n-word” in a hateful way. Â What’s important to note here, however, is that Michel only began dating Holding a year ago, after the allegations surfaced. They’ve known each other for about 4 years. Cynics might conclude that this is an arrangement to make Holding look good. Or perhaps it is true commitment and a genuine relationship.
Michel appeared as a character witness for Holding as he fights to be reinstated by an arbitrator.  Given the obviously racist nature of the text messages and the video in question, we can’t help but question Michel’s willingness to not only stand by Holdings, but to appear in court on his behalf.  An arbitrator has already denied one officer’s reinstatement,  so it’ll be interesting to see if the “I have a black girlfriend,” defense actually holds up in court.

that makes me think he might have threatened her somehow, someone should look into that.
i mean he’s a cop, he’s probably got cop friends that would do him a favor and intimidate her/her family. sounds like a movie or something, but you never know.

It says a great deal about some people. It says nothing at all about Black women. Not my sisters, my daughter, my deceased sainted mother, my former wife, or any of the wonderful black women I have been privileged to know and love and most of all respect in my life.
Let us remember that there were some Jewish women who as low specimens of a great people willingly sexed with the abominable Nazi’s. There is nothing so low that you cannot get SOMEONE do it.
Media has a role in that. The most passing view of media entertainment will show that black couples are only acceptable as slapstick unsophisticated clownish buffoon comedy in film or broadcast.
Any other kind of script demands that any beautiful Black woman must sleep lust after lay with a white man or white men. It is a step up from the mandatory hooker or maid roles that were the previous apartheid reservation of black actresses, but it is the same denigration of black people.

Let’s get this straight: you can have a black wife and kids but still be racist. Loving your black family does not mean you empathize with the struggle of the group she comes from or have rid yourself of ingrained prejudices. These things are taught at an early age. From a predominately black, but not necessarily more crime-ridden community being referred to as “the ‘hood” or “the ghetto” (with negative connotations) to the misunderstanding of unique storytelling in rap whitewashed as glorification of crime, you can’t undo that programming by being with someone black. Let’s not forget how people are frequently guilty of erasure, where they convince themselves their partner is somehow different or not really “black.” This ploy doesn’t phase me in the slightest. Plenty have the good ole “my best friend is black defense” but have that same crooked mindset.
I can attest to that. I’ve seen it play out in my own family with brothers and racist sister in laws. Will some (esp black men) ever come to their senses?

I do not believe a racist white man can truly love a black woman. He may want her as some kind of ‘trophy’, but love – nah!
He may think he does but it’s because he convinces himself she’s different. Strangely, people hate being called racist more than actually being racist so, subconsciously, I think a black wife is their proof.

Character witness huh? For all we know he’s probably called her that name as well, but not in her presence.
He started dating her a year after the allegations came to light! That suggests she is being used for one purpose only and as soon as her testimony is done it will be good y from him. A leopard doesn’t change his spots
