In today’s adorable news, actor and rapper Mack Wilds (most recently seen in Adele’s Hello video) just declared his adoration for singer Sevyn Streeter, and dark skinned women in general. Appearing on the Wendy Williams show, Wilds was grilled on whether he and Streeter were an item. In the process he revealed his love of dark skin, which he credited his mother for;
[Wendy] “The rumor on the street was that you were dating somebody named Sevyn Streeter. Were you in love with her?”
[Mack] “She’s dope. I’ll say that.”
“So you guys weren’t romantically involved?”
“We’re just really, really good friends.”
“She’s really pretty to just be a really good friend.”
“Yeah, she is very pretty.”
“I love dark skinned girls. So you know, she’s definitely one of them.”
“Who’s talking about complexion? You see this is where my people go in a conversation. Really?”
“It’s just, I don’t know…my mom is brown skinned so I just have a thing about all the different colors that women come in.”
“You don’t have to explain it, you’re adorable.”

Yes, this is absolutely adorable, but it is a bit sad that it’s news given that so few high-profile black men make this declaration (although many are comfortable celebrating the beauty of women who are not black and/or dark-skinned). It’s not news that dark skinned women are gorgeous, and yes Sevyn is an absolute doll.

I think we should support our brothers and accept the compliment. We would be mad and all over the place if he had said he likes light skinned girl. So let really just accept the compliment. This kind of compliment is scarce enough to be appreciated.
Its funny how Black folks especially Black women belittle his comment! I think its beautiful that he loves dark skin sistas! We hardly hear brothas say this about darker skin sistas and yet we dismiss it like Wendy did! I appreciate the comment! It’s funny but so many Black women would be getting upset if he said he doesn’t date Black women or he prefer lighter skin sistas! Black women are beautiful period but sometimes its nice to hear a man acknowledge our darker sistas! Sistas learn to appreciate a compliment & brothas take notes on the beauty of Black women!

Why so cynical? When a man don’t praise you, there’s a problem… when they do, they’re up to something. See, this is one reason why some women stay unhappy. HOld on to negative experiences and carry it over to the next brotha.
I do believe a man’s actions speak louder than words. But until i see evidence otherwise, I’m taking the man’s word and compliment.
And I’m sure those black men that praise non-black women have ulterior motives, also.

But the most annoying part was Wendy Williams dismissing the whole complexion thing. She really is quite dismissive of black people’s issues and always trying to downplay some topics that come up. I dont know if its cos she is trying to appeal to the crowd or if she has never been subjected to harsh comments like dark skinned women. Either way I am tired of Wendy’s constant dismissal of black issues.

It’s great that he appreciates black women and there are many men out there who do but they don’t tend to be the celebrities. I just wish we can one day get over the issue of light and dark skin, it’s so damaging, and it never comes up in conversation.

Why would ANY individual with AfRAkan heritage have a problem with Wilds’ affinity for dark-skinned women? Kudos to Wilds’ mother for giving her son an affirming mental self-image. I question the intelligence of any so-called ‘Black’ person who despises AUTHENTIC BLACK AESTHETICS. I challenge any westernized brain to prove that DARK-SKIN is NOT a default trait of Black gene codes.
