Somewhere along the way, Urban Outfitters discovered the miracle of these old school black hair products. Murray’s Hair pomade is something black dads everywhere have sworn by for years. Now it’s ended up on the shelves of mass-produced hipster trading outpost, Urban Outfitters.
Now while it’s all good and dandy that they’ve decided to carry the trusted brand, we can’t help but notice the prices are a little…costly. The typical cost for a small tin of Murray’s pomade will run you usually around $2-$3…but Urban Outfitters is charging $6. Is this a special edition of Murray’s pomade with miracle powers that will regrow your edges within a week?

I think they’ve effectively seized onto another opportunity for cultural erasure. It wasn’t long ago when young Black girls were teased or berated in class for the same pony tail holders or braid beads being ‘so different’ or ‘making too much noise’. But take our same historical and cultural products, put it on a white model while ignoring their history and suddenly it’s acceptable to the white majority? I don’t think so. This is not okay. If you want in on this ‘new beauty trend’, please acknowledge and pay respect to where you got your ideas and products from. And actually, make sure you have at least one black model on all the advertising too.

Y’all should go and read the comments for the murrays coconut pomade on their website!!! lmao they’re all complaining about their hair being greasy and hard to manage after using the stuff lol.
