Introduce yourself!
T: My name is Teniqua and I’m straight outta Compton.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
T: I’ve been natural now for 2 years. I decided to go natural because I hated my relaxed hair. It was limp, dry, and didn’t have any life to it. I really missed my natural hair.
How would you describe your texture?
T: My hair has at least 3 different textures, and it’s SO frustrating at times. Around the perimeter of my head the hair is 3b/3c and the crown section is the thickest, which maybe 4b/4c. I definitely have to be a lot more sensitive with my crown area and more generous with products.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
T: A TWIST OUT IS MY BESTFRIEND! It’s the only style where I can tend to every strand. I always start with co-washed hair. I never start with dry hair, and I start to twist with Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream. Then I lock in the moisture with either coconut oil or olive oil, and last I spread Eco Styler Gel (olive oil) on my ends so that they will be defined when I untwist them and not be too frizzy.
What does wash day look like for you?
T: I wash my hair every 1-2 days because I have psoriasis, so I can’t really stretch my styles as much as I would like to. When I’m not lazy and I do it the right way I section my hair in 8 or 10 twists, completely saturate my hair with water, and use As I Am Coconut Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner. I focus it towards my roots and not my ends. When my hair is too dirty for a cleanser I use Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo. To condition I always use any Herbal Essences Conditioner, which are my fave!
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
T: Most likely a puff ball, dead in the top of my head! If anyone saw me the majority of the time that’s how my hair would be. I try to come up with other easy styles, but that one is just too darn easy and I love it.
How do you combat shrinkage?
T: I gave up trying to combat it! Better off embracing it 🙂
Tell us about your hair color?
T: I’ve colored my hair quite a bit so far in my natural hair journey. I’ve constantly gone from auburn red to blue, to black, and I always used the Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color to achieve it. Recently I bleached the front of my hair and dyed it green. I doubt I’ll be doing anything with color for a while!
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
T: The crown of my head is the thickest, but the weakest. I can’t just rake the detangling brush through it as easily as the rest of my head. I really have to take my time and be gentle, and it requires a lot more moisture.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
T: Water and moisture!
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
T: Heavy manipulation and a lazy attitude when you don’t want to do it!
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
T: Yes!

beautiful girl with lipstick that gives me LIFE!
Wow!! Beautiful hair! My new hair crush.
Thank you lovely! ^.^
Did you say straight out of Compton? I never thought a woman from that place would be featured on here and I was glad when I read your from Compton. I like this site, I been coming on here since July I think and I’m just in awe at all the confidence and inspiration I gained from here. It’s nice to know that you transitioned back because you wanted to not because you had to. I wil admit, It gets overrated when a woman says she transitioned because of damage or all else. I like to hear every now and then that a woman wants to try the Natural way.
I love your African earring. Is there any way that they are still selling them online and can be shipped to California? I like those poses of you on the 3, 5 and 13th photos. So fierce and elegant.
Thank you! and yes its a lot of beautiful, intelligent, and talented women in Compton California lol. Here’s the link for the earrings https://www.etsy.com/transaction/98758792?ref=fb2_tnx_title 🙂

Thank you bby!
Your hair is nowhere in the 3s stop fooling yourself boo.
well..thank you for commenting lol!
Well no shade, but I think I’m with debz. It seems these beautiful sistahs on these blogs are claiming the areas of 3’s when hair typing. Now I”m not in their hair so I don’t know. However, when I compare to those such as Tracey Ellis Ross, etc….whose supposedly 3 b or whatev, I look at this hair and I’m thinking…naaahhhhh…Anywho, regardless of the typing foolery, her hair (in this blog) is absolutely stunning. I just get tired of all the typing….ALL SAID WITH LOVE 😉
Yes! Finally I found someone with my same hair problem.
the struggle is real I know!
omgosh!!!!!! hair face skin everything is amazing and gorgeous!!! love it 🙂
Thank you so much!!
Ugh, I’m soooo hating on you right now. Your hair + that patch of green is effing fierce. I love it. Why did I have to see you when I just made a resolution to not dye nor straighten my hair in 2014 🙁
I always push people to experiment with their hair so I better shut my mouth if that’s your new years resolution lol!

I love your earrings in the 9 photo of Africa can you tell me where I could find earrings like that. By the way you and your hair are fabulous.
Gorgeous, just gorgeous! Question. What do you use to secure your puff?! I thought us girls with voluminous hair problems just had to give up!I break anything I try to use! lol
I went to target and bought these elastic bands that come in a pack of 100, they’re very cheap for what you’re getting and they don’t have that metal attachment that rips your hair out!
Wow i second, you’ve got lots of growth fir just two years it really looks great. Been transitioning for 11months now. Pleaseeeeeeeeee what’s your regimen?
Thank you,, everything I do is in the interview or you can check my youtube channel 🙂
