*UPDATE* After reading through the comments we’ve retitled this post as a question instead of a statement. While we truly believe that black women are capable of growing a full head of healthy hair, the fact is we don’t know for sure if this is Taraji’s real hair. We are prone to believe that it is, but we just don’t know, so we’re leaving room for doubt. Below is the post as it was originally written.

Taraji P Henson has some impressive hair! The actress revealed her unstraightened tresses on Instagram with the caption:
Peekaboo!!!! This is a lot of hair @danteblandshaw!!!!! Now gotta straitened it ALL!!!
What do you think ladies?

Why all caps though? I feel you screaming at me through the computer…
beautiful hair! You go girl!
that her hair, it looks like mine, thick as hell, lol.
OF course it’s real, it’s a fried mess with 1,000 split ends and it’s not even long…..yup, no one would pay for that.
Whatever the case she has always has sharp ass styles. I wish I had her stylist lol. Also taraji has nice natural hair which I believe she blends and /or wears overtop of a quality brand of weave as in this picture
THAT IS HER HAIR,ANYONE CAN SEE THAT LOL,I CANNOT BELIEVE PREVIOUS COMMENTS IS TRYING TO SUGGEST OTHERWISE.YOU CAN TELL THAT IS HER HAIR!!!
WHO CARES IF THAT’S HER REAL HAIR OR NOT. LIKE REALLY YOU ALL ARE GOING BACK AND FOURTH ABOUT SOMEBODY ELSE HAIR…. LOL.. IT’S ENTERTAINING TO READ THE RESPONSES THEN TO THINK IF THAT’S HERE HAIR OR NOT…
Its not her hair youcan see her real hair thats on top of the weave it doesmt nlend she has permed or straighten hair and hIr doesnt look likethat when blown out thats pretty hair but doesnt look natural
As another post mentioned on here, Taraji stated even on the Wendy Williams show, during her 2012 appearance I believe (well her last one), that her hair was mixed with Brazilian weaves. Per Taraji, upon Wendy’s inquiry, she prefers weaves closer to her hair texture. She uses them while working to protect her hair. She does may have a perm, or presses it; however, if you look at her younger pictures she does have long thick hair. her hair was just beyond her shoulders during the interview; ironically, earlier in the year on George Lopez’s show she had a neck length, pretty bob. Her hair was all one texture.
NOTE: It is possible for black people to have multiple, natural hair textures on their head, without chemicals, and at the same time, given some of our ethnic mixtures. This is regardless of complexions.
I’m mad that she can’t spell straighten. But it could be her hair and that the various textures are due to her numerous partial sew-ins. If she leaves out the top part of her hair all of the time then it will be straighter and shorter than the natural hair that is always braided up.
This is definitely not her natural hair. The upper part is straight as if it was straighted with a flat iron – or relaxed. The rest of the hair doesn’t have the same texture and hair color as the upper part. It’s probably a partial sew-in, a properly done sew-in to be honest
seriously, people believe everything they see a celebrity post! Taraji has already said it’s not her hair….. her bobs are done by her stylist. She said pn wendy Williams that in her movies, she wears WEAVES …

Sorry to say but this is not Taraji’s hair! She’s giving a shout out to her stylist who obviously installed the hair that still needs to be flat ironed. Her natural hair is really lovely with good length but this ain’t it. If u look closely u can actually see where her straight hair ends and lays on top of the naturally kinky weave. (sorry but I am queen of weaves lol) that’s just some good old expensive hair right there
You are so right. I scrolled down to the comments section to see if anyone see what I saw:)
Yeah thats definitely her hair your just STUPID if you dont know what real hair looks like her weaves are just her bobs
Really KEishia? How would you like it if someone called you stupid because you didn’t use the appropriate form of YOU’RE in YOUR comment! Let’s not get ignorant here over something that neither of us know as fact. And again my opinion that it is not her hair. If her hair was that long you would see a line of demarcation where she would have obviously had to cut the top layer to leave out over top of her short Bob weave is that not true? To wear a short weave with your natural part showing you have to leave a section of your hair out to cover the tracks and therefore you would have to cut you own hair to make it even with the weave! If her hair was that long the layer that would have been cut would be pretty much evenly trimmed somewhere around chin length, it would not taper off as the top layer of her own hair clearly does in this photo KEisha, with two capitals lol! So get your life and stop calling people names this early in the morning!
When you get a bob that is a weave you do not have to cut ANY of hair just because it is long. I know that for a fact because I get bobs and I do have a good length of hair underneath. The way her natural hair is the top is already short because her real hair has a bang. If you’ve seen all of her types of bobs you would notice that. And you can see that in the picture. And if your stylist knows what they are doing they will simply leave a small portion of hair just to cover the top track. And sometimes she gets full sew in where NONE of her real hair is out
Ok so like you said her real hair has a bang! There is no bang here correct? And again my hair is past my shoulders and when I went to get a short Bob weave the stylist said she would have to cut the very top layer of my hair (only a very small chunk left out to cover the tracks) because for it to look totally real you gotta leave out edges and the side part should be longer than 2 inches (just like Taraji’s was in the movie!) And in the pic her hair is super long all the way around soooo? But think whatever you want. Like I said before, none of us know for a fact I’m only stating my opinion from believing what I see not what people say. I’m done. Enjoy your day.
Lol I was gonna say the same thing you can see the different textures
It is possible that Taraji has this length of hair! I recall an old Essence cover photo of her and the article where she stated that she wears weave to protect her natural hair. Yup, a REALLY GOOD weave can give the same results but, look at the ends of her hair. My own hair gets frizzy at the ends like her’s when I do an inadequate blow out prior to a protective style job. So yeah, I think ol’ gurl has some hair on her head.

When was this picture taken? When she was in “Think Like A Man”, she had a bob. Very luxurous, thick, and naturally shiny. I believe that was her real hair. If this was taken recently, that is quite a bit of growth in about 1-2 years but maybe her hair grows THAT much (im jealous if so! lol). I have had weaves that look real once blown out, more real than I would have imagined (cost me about 400.00) so I know she can get her hands on some weave that’s pretty darn expensive and more natural appearing. I’m stuck; it could be her hair because she’s always had beautiful hair since Baby Boy; however, weave does wonders. Remember that.
I think it’s real. My hair is mixed textures and it’s often fluffy at the front and straight in places. Recently it went naturally smooth and staightish-wavy after I stopped using conditioner and used coconut oil spray. Our hair is of similar length and thickness (when poofy) The truth is, such length IS unusual in black people because of the effort required to keep it untangled, moisturised etc. Curly hair breaks easily. That’s why there’s sites like this and a massive industry dedicated to getting some length and keeping it manageable. It’s difficult but doable, and I know after years of sitting for hours getting my hair braided and pulling knots out, not being able to get a brush or even my fingers through it after it rained etc
It is not ok however to assume that someone’s hair is not natural or accuse them of lying if they say it is. I’ve had black girls bully me and pull my hair saying its a weave and I ‘can’t handle the truth’. I’ve also asked other girls with long hair what they use to manage/style it but so far they’ve all said its a weave… But not to say it doesn’t exist.

After S curl (think it made my curl pattern MORE irregular and puffy afterward it dried up. Shrinkage 🙁 )

Her hair is long, but she has pieces added to her hair. I say this because you can see the top layer of her hair is straighter than the lower layers, which have a different texture as well. The weave that is used is probably close to her natural hair texture. I personally don’t see anything wrong with weaves or wigs because I see them as protective styles for your hair. Just because any woman wears weaves doesn’t mean she’s bald as a tennis ball.
Hi, i would just like to say this. While I strolled down all the pictures here I was so envious! African americans were blessed with great hair, you guys have real volume in your hair, its beautiful. Im from South Africans, the only thing I and many other women here can do to our short, peppercorn tresses is to either braid it or to relax it. My hair only seems to grow faster when its straightened out or braided, here in Africa we have the same thing going on here: the looks and questions you get when you have shoulder length hair, well Im sick of it. I wanna go natural but nothing seems to work any tips out there for the harsh African elements on my tresses?

As a professional stylist for 20 years I’ve experienced many different hair types and textures. Whether it was grown or bought. I can clearly see all this hair is not what she has grown. If you look from her scalp down to her hair shaft. There is a demarcation line. You can see where her hair stops and where the weave begins. Weave is underneath her hair. Taraji’s hair has been combed over and blended with artificial extentions. However, at the end of the day it’s her hair and her decision how she chooses to wear it. None of us are putting any money in her account to get fixed. The only issue is being real about exposure. If a
person isn’t going to be real they shouldn’t come to the light. Because someone’s going to see the real deal eventually.
This is a dumb ass question. You can clearly see her scalp. IF it was weave, I wanna know who her stylist is! XD
Omg…this ish is getting ridiculous! WHO CAAAAARRRREEESSSS……its crazy black girls can’t win for losing….if its long you think its fake….if its fake you got something to say about it. She doesn’t have to prove anything to the rest of you…Which is why I don’t understand why people keep posting their business all over the internet anyway. Who cares what you do or don’t do to your hair. Only reason its an issues is cause everybody out here putting it out there. I don’t care about your regimen, I don’t care how you do your hair, the length, density, what shampoo you use.. WHATEVER. These are all vain inquiries anyway. Even if her hair is fake I mean what are you really gonna do about it but complain. Jesus. This whole hair thing is getting out of control.
she already said it wasn’t all of her hair… dang people! ..

It’s hers. She paid good money for it.
To be fair, her
post doesn’t say it’s her hair, she said ” this is a lot of hair” and I’m good with it regardless, people can grow hair, chop it, we can achieve waist length or longer or be pretty with a baldy.. . We have choices and money to buy whatever .. . .stars and the girl next door can be rough on their hair from the constant changes so you might add some. . . It’s all beautiful 🙂
She admitted that it wasn’t her hair, but that instead she uses natural looking weave and then straightens it so it looks more ‘real’
a shame 🙁
@”not so new to this”-lots of us have 2 textures on our head
I definitely think this is her hair. The straighter part at the crown is more than likely just the result off that section of hair being felt out of her weaves and frequently flat ironed. Serious doubt this is a weave.
Her hair looks real to me. That’s how my hair looks when it is blown out (not as long yet). When I would go to the salon people would ask me if my hair was real. They thought it was a wig cause it is so thick.
I have been wearing my natural for about 17 years. Straightening every now and then is about the most I’ve done. However, what I noticed lately is that my hair is beginning to gray and I don’t like the look as much when I wear my hair without straightening. As an older woman, I don’t see many products recommended for older woman who have gone natural. Also, several times I tried rod setting with Ms. Jessie Curly Pudding, but it left my hair sticky. I’ve also used several different moisturizers, to no avail. Any suggestions?
Beautiful, I believe her hair is genuine. You can tell by the look of the strands. Their not too dry, but they could be more moist, which is the way hair looks when it either has been braided for longs periods of time, or has gone without sustained moisture longer than it should. As a hairdresser, I would love to see my sisters wear their natural hair. Regardless of what the traditional concept of our so-called nappy hair is, it’s beautiful and should be highlighted more by women of color who are consistently in the public eye. However, since whenever we have been told that our hair is against beauty. Yes even by other sisters who are in the business of doing hair. Frankly, it goes against their business practices. They will complain that “you would look better in a weave, a weave is more convenient, your hair is thin so a weave would be best for you at this time and the worst yet, don’t you want your hair to move”. Ladies don’t listen to anyone that tries to or suggests that what you are naturally, ever needs improvement.
taraji, lovely hair. i wish she would outline her hair care regime for us – if it is all real.
Clearly you can see the difference in the 2 texture, top near parting/crown and the nape/lower part of hair. Sorry…
Yes but it’s possible that part of her hair is straighter than the rest from heat damage (since it’s the leave out part) because she wears weaves constantly. I’ve seen this so many times especially on YouTube.
My hair does that when I blow dry it because it is relaxed. The top part is straight and smooth and the bottom part is bushy. Her hair might just be relaxed. Did she ever claim she was natural? Or did we just assume?
Wow. Someone who does not know “new growth” when they see it. Me smells a Weavehead!
I have two different textures..and my hair is past my shoulders…that is the worst type of reasoning lol
My hair is naturally curly with 2-3 different textures. The front has looser curls than the back so your observation proves nothing.
Why did you cut all you long hair to that ?
What do put in your hair?
This is a website about hair-not acting talent or credits- so I totally understand if the the convo focuses solely on whether TPH’s hair is real or not-again its a hair site! Lol So…to me the picture is pretty poor quality but it looks like natual hair that has been blow dried. I don’t think any of us can make a definite decision on whether its hers or not. 🙂
Yes I think that her real hair mine is like that but thicker and longer. Why is it that people think that all black woman with long thick hair think its a weave. When ever I go into a salon the 1st question is. Is that all your hair and will continually to ask until I would have to prove it is. As if it uncommon for black woman to have long natural hair. I’m am not mix straight black but that question is always asked People!!! This needs to stop! Smh!

The reason we think that is our own fault.
When will SOME people know that it’s not tactful(very ignorant actually) to ask any woman you dont know or barely know, if her hair is real or not. Especially when some women may suffer from an illness or past trauma that caused them to wear a wig or weave etc. I was raised better, and know not to even ask a random woman that question. You rarely see educated well raised blacks asking questions like that, it’s usually the ignorant ones
How is it our fault? That makes zero sense. It’s none of your business if it’s our hair or not. If you think that it’s because you want to.
@ Von….I apologize, I misunderstood your comment, and thought you were of another persuasion, blaming us…plz disregard my 1st comment…
I think it’s her real hair also. Also, keep in mind alot of ppl especially black ppl when they see a woman with long natural hair ask that question “is that all your hair”? Ask out of ignorance. Once upon a time it was abnormal to be fully black with extremely long hair now its almost the norm. I see more black women with long hair than short hair. Thats a good feeling.
They only say that when it’s straightened(since that isn’t our natural texture). When you have texture to your hair, they dont assume that. I rarely straighten my hair(like 1 or 2 times a year) but i do blow outs about once a month and you can see the length to my hair, and i’ve NEVER been asked if that was my real hair, they only say…”WOW you have a lot of hair” lol
No, I tend to think CELEBRITIES PERIOD wear fake hair. No matter what race. why? Because it’s quicker and gives them more versatility in style, which is always in demand in their world. If i were a celeb I’d ALWAYS wear wigs, because it gives versatility without being extra harsh on your hair. I’ve never worn wigs or weaves and I have about that same length hair after blown dried. But it takes me FOREVER to do my hair! because it’s so thick. SO I can’t imagine being a celeb and ALWAYS having to be on point EVERY second of the day UNLESS you are wearing fake hair.
Oh, I know black women can grow some long luxurious hair. Especially when they do away with the perms, excessive heat and damaging hair styles. I just question Taraji’s natural hair photo because the short quaff the actress usually sports does not look like a short wig. It looks like her real hair. So when I see Taraji’s usual bob compared to he long look, I get a bit suspicious.
That is exactly the way my hair looks without the hot comb. Black women have straightened their hair so much from such a young age that they have no idea what the true texture of the hair really is. My hair is longer and thicker than that. I seldom wear it out because it is hot and bothersomely thick when it is not straight. Give your natural hair a chance my lovelies and stop perming the little girl’s tresses before they have a chance to decide for themselves. Natural 60 of my 62 years and I love my versatile hair.
That is her real hair. You can see that. Some women just want to know that someone else isn’t shining brighter than they are. She wears the same bob weave all the time. Her hair is protected underneath. Get over y’all selves.
Taraji, I love you and wish this was you hair but I can see where your hair ends and the weave under it comes through. Now, that is not to say that at one point her hair could have been this length. She may have recently had a cut and wanted to fill her natural tresses.. but this is not all hers.
I can believe it’s her hair. My hair…almost the same, but crazier looking! Very wild, and it would take several flat iron strokes to get it flat! I love it! Flat, fat, wild, curly, short, thick, thin, straight, whatever!
I have an admiration for black women that do wear their natural hair. I’ve been natural since birth but have had my edges texturized from time to time ( only). I can clearly see this being hers it is possible for someone to relax only the parts that will be showing in a weave but I’m more than sold that this is DEFINITELY not hers!
I’ve been natural off & on (did jheri curl with no grease & a wave noveau) for over a decade now. I have been all natural for at least 5 years. If I were to air dry my hair in a ponytail, it would look just like that (the ends drying to a different texture than the part slicked back against my head). My cousin perms her hair & it has that length at times, but not that thickness. I see no reason why that can’t be her real hair. We are “regular” ole Black folx (neither parents, nor grandparents were white or bi-racial, although there is some Native American a few generations back).
It is beautiful, but no it is not her real hair. I have been doing weaves for about 19 years and I can see that her hair is straightened and the weave is not. I see where her hair ends. it is a very nice length, but there are extensions in it. Hair can be bought that resembles our natural hair and this picture is exactly how it looks when I install hair but haven’t straightened the weave yet. Sorry guys…I loovveeee Taraji, but this hair is not all of her real hair
Kelsey is right! I see the shorter straight hair and then the rest of the hair. Nobody is jealous or doesn’t want other black women to not have hair! Some of us want maximum growth for all of us so we can break that myth that black hair stops at neck length or shorter. Also, she’s worn weaves that are fairly thiner, it’d seem kind of hard to hide that thick amount of hair and given the length in the weave styles she’s worn. There’s no need in having a hair inspiration of someone who’s hair isn’t theirs. That’s similar to having a body inspiration/motivation after pregnancy and the person you’re inspired by had all types of surgery after their pregnancy when you thought it was by a natural weight loss.
That is not all her hair. I’m a weavaholic and I know a good weave when I see one. There is a slight difference between the texture of the extension and her real hair. Her natural hair is a nice length, and we all know that weave looks more realistic on women with a little length to work with. She is always fly, so it really doesn’t matter. If you can’t achieve it, then weave it. #carryon
If you remember her co-starring debut with singer Tyrese “Baby Boy” Which was years ago she wore her real hair in that movie it was a nice long length back then so I believe this pic is all her. OAN: Is it really that big a deal she is gorgeous either way!!!!!
I love Taraji & her hair is Always Laid so GodBless to her stylist! On another note I’m a Licensed stylist & I would say that she has some “Extras” up in there if you will lol! The hair is textured, probably curly virgin hair to mimic natural african American hair. It’s been cut and prepped to be styled in this pic. Either way ladies her hair is always ON & I love it!:)
Well it looks ok. I never cared for her too much. Can’t really act.
No, it is not her real hair. we all seen her real hair which is about jaw to neck length. and if you do hair like i do. you can see where her real hair stops. but who cares who ever sew down her hair did a great job
Ummh, just because you saw a shorter version of hair doesn’t mean that this is not her real hair on the picture. The shorter version could have been weave and now I can’t see where her real hair stops; she could have layers. HUMMMM. . .
We’re all speculators. We won’t know until Taraji herself says it is or it isn’t. This looks like both, natural and weave. Yes, they sell weave with a natural texture so it blends well with our natural hair texture. Tons of black celebs are natural but wear weaves. You ever wonder how their hair blends so effortlessly with the weave??? Natural texture weave…yes it exists. But until Miss Taraji says out her mouth if this is all hers our comments are just that..not facts.
you know what? that’s very true. i didn’t even think about that. because as a matter of fact i have seen hair like that at the beauty supply store. duh what was i thinking. you make some excellent points. i just don’t wear weave or know that much about it like that…but yeah you’re absolutely right it COULD very well easily be weave…
yeah that’s her hair. it’s obvious. she probably wears alot of weaves, wigs and extensions to protect her hair from all the styling; heat that comes with different roles she plays as an actress and chooses to preserve her natural hair. i believe full well that this is her hair i’m sorry you’re not gonna find human hair used for weaving lookin like this. most of that hair is a whole different texture and does not come from african american hair.
Why is that any question at all. Its sounds like whom ever posed the question is a hater! Why do we as black women question each other in length and texture of our hair? That as divisive as the whole complexion issue. This is not cool. Yes its her hair no matter how it got there its hers!
My hair is like that.. Exactly, especially after taking down my ponytail.. Natural

Having Manning is like having another coach in the game, and the future seems to be bright for Colorado with both any killer defense as well as a greatly upgraded crime.
So what are giveaways, giftcards or free online games?
Did I see someone actually list Kim Kardashian as a black woman? Her father was Armenian and her mother Kris is of Scottish/Dutch descent.
HEY! why don’t yall just ask her!!
I am a hair dresser, and I have some clients in the acting business who are also natural. For most of them I have relaxed only the edges of their hair for a more natural look after weaving. I am not certain if this is her hair or not but black actresses have a normal they often have to adhere to, also often times they have to have a look that’s versatile.
Nope that’s not her hair but i still love her
What is up with this obsession of long hair on black women. Even if a black woman doesn’t have long hair, for about 90% or more the hair is thick. I understand that people of other races think that black women can’t grow our hair but at the end of the day, we need to stop focusing on length and more so the health of our hair. Not every black woman is feigning for long hair either.
What is wrong about asking is it her real hair? Even if its not…its a nice looking weave that matches her real hair. Nothing is wrong with that.
a writer here has said my mind Y do we blackwomen loathe ourselves Y cn’t we just appreciate one of us doing goodtns and being blessed by GOD do U think it’s easy to look this flawless at d age of 42 going 2 43 without any cosmeticsurgery check out youger blackwomen like Rihanna Kimkardashian Beyonce they re 2 change their looks daily but women like lisaraymccoy and Taraji re all making us proud representing blackwomen so Let’s give to them they deserve it
Wowza!! =O
CLEARLY It’s not growing out of her scalp but nevertheless she paid for it so it’s hers!!! It’s still pretty though. I love the natural texture of it.
This entire post is simply annoying. It looks like her hair to me but so what. Taraji is a beautiful & talented lady, why the focus on if her hair is real or not? Her talent is real, her beauty is real even if she was bald headed, she’s still fly. As someone already stated, we really do need to do better.
This should not even be a question. This is why black women still have MAJOR issues with each other. Chick of other races don’t go around worrying about who’s hair is real or not. Take care of what is yours and worry about your own length. This is disappointing.
What does it matter?!?! I mean really. Why even post this, why, as black women, do we throw spears at one anothers’ successes instead of praising their achievements?? WE NEED TO DO BETTER.
Texture have nothing to do with it my hair has many different texture to it, when its flat ironed or even in an afro people take it for a wig, so it could very well be her own hair.
Oh my sisters, can we just admire our being Black, and doing wonderful things, and let the hair thing go? I have locs and I have friends with afros, locs, perms, and weaves. It’s not their hair as India Arie so wonderfully put it. It is the soul of these women that keeps me going.
I know I’m kinda late But, let me look again………ok, I guess it could be a sew in, possibly. The only thing that gives it away is the straightened hair at the root.
Ummm it’s not the same color or texture as her natural hair on top.
So, you don’t know for sure if any of the women featured on this site is in fact wearing their real hair. Why question Taraji’s and not theirs?
No, it isn’t her hair. In the photo, if you look closely, you will see her natural hair is at the top, and below it is a coarse weave. She said in and interview w/ Wendy Williams that it isn’t her natural hair. Her stylist found a coarse hair that matched her hair best when straightened, so that it what she wears. Of course black woman can grow their own hair. I mean, look at all of the photos on BGLH! Unfortunately, though, Taraji is not one of them.
Theirs many black women near and dear to me who are rocking down the back locs and Hot comb straight hair. I think that’s Taraji’s hair and why would she have to lie @ hair length.
does it really matter? i have friend from high school who still has long gorgeous hair!! yall trying to say black girls only get weave to make their hair long?? my friends hair is touches her butt and its really thick and all hers! we r both in our 40s!!
This is her hair. Obviously she mostly wears it straight and in a bob, so she has to leave a section out at the top (her hair) to cover tracks of the weave hair. After pressing and flatironing it so many times to blend her natural hair (from the root) with the weave hair, her hair will no long curl, kink, coil, or wave, it will be permanently straight. Which is why she has two different textures. I dont wear weaves and I know that. C’mon ladies. So many haters, so sad.
Just from the way she references her stylist as if he put all that hair there, as opposed to saying man I’ve got a lot of hair, I’d say that that is not ‘all’ her hair, but she also showed an after pic when it was straightened out and it looked really good, and at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about. Looking ones best.
Really! Why do people think Black Women can’t have long thick hair. When we stop perming our hair it will grow very long. I have naturally thick hair and when I blow it out people always stare and some even ask if it’s my own hair. I’m like really? It just proves we need to go back to the natural look and leave these perms alone. Now as for Taraji, I really believe its her hair, but it doesn’t matter. The point is, if it’s not it could be.
I don’t see why this wouldn’t be her hair. Looks like, as an earlier commenter stated, the top layer is relaxed or straightened for blending with wigs/weave, but the rest looks like poorly tended hair. It just looks damaged to me… or a blow-out gone awry.
It’s a weave. Look at her part and make your way down . . . the hair at the top is stick straight . . . only the hair underneath is textured . . . You can also see the short straight hair on top of the long . . . her top layer is a lot shorter than the rest of the hair.
No matter what this and other blogs try to do or say to show us the many different types and lengths of hair out there, any black woman ( like my very dark skinned self) who has long hair MUST be wearing a weave and the ” experts” can always tell you why they are right. It’s annoying.
Agreed. I mean if you are on the online hair community you know black women can grow their beyond waist length. I find this so weird. So why question if its her hair? If its not why does it matter so much?
“Only God can judge me honey!” That’s true but…
–Do, ye not know that ye are gods?
please stop it with the “don’t judge people” bullshit. its lame. If you don’t want to judge or be judged, go crawl under a rock and decompose.
Why does it even matter? lol.
Looks to me like natural hair thats been blown out. Do you not SEE all those uneven ends?? It looks like she was able to get the roots fairly straight but I know from experience getting the entire length of my tresses to be FLAt isnt easy. Especially if you’re tying NOT to overuse heat & since I wear my hair curly I dont cut my ends to even so when theyre blown out they look much like hers & ppl think I need a serious trim but once it curls back up it looks just fine.More heat means straighter hair but usually more damage too so I usually end up with hair looking much like this picture.dont know why is it so hard to believe. Its not like Beyonce posted this pic! THEN i’d say “hummmm…”. Taraji has stated that she is natural and wears wigs n weave for protection so i’d believe her before I’d believe beyonce or any of the other celebs who’s real hair has almost never been mentioned or seen in YEARS!Just saying…
That’s hers I met her one time in the airport and her hair was not done but it looked very thick and natural
Thats her hair, smh I swear people are haters lol

Does it really matter if it is real or fake? Its just hair if its fake what’s
the point? If its real what’s the point? At the end of the day her hair is beautiful and she is doing her thing and does not care what we think. You cant judge someone because of there hair.
I don’t find it unbelievable. I have always had long thick hair. And I have always had people ask was it real (even in the 90s, lol). My hair looks exactly like that if I blow dry and don’t flat iron, especially if I need a trim!
my hair looks very similar to this if I blow dry…I say its her real, growing from the scalp, hair.
BGLH, what happened to all the comments for this article? I don’t see 151 including mine from yesterday. I only see 4 comments. Is there a way to see the rest?
yeah, I only see 11 comments plus mine…whats up with that!
No that’s extension hair. If you look at her last cover shot on Essence mag she was wearing a cute bob hairstyle.
But it definitely looks real. She does wear it long on her show. So maybe this was on set.
I have to admit it, I don’t understand most of these comments. I went to an all girls high school back in the day (before weaves) where 98% of the students were black. The girls had a variety of hair from shorter than an inch to all the way to the butt to everything in between. I therefore to do not have preconceived notions about whether the hair is real just because it is long. Unless someone tells me it’s a weave or I see tracks or something, I assume the hair is “real”. The hair is always “theirs” because if it’s on their head, they either grew it or purchased it.
I dunno….I think its hers…my hair looks EXACTLY like this when I blowdry my hair out and I have been natural for 8 years. But she is known for the short hair look so for me the length is questionable but it looks natural to me!
I agree.
It’s would be nice if that was all her hair, but it really doesn’t look like it. It seems as if relaxed hair (leave-out) is on top of a textured weave… doesn’t blend well, thus the need to straighten it out…
We are all trying to learn about our hair and ways we can wear it. Someone may want to know if Tafaji’s hair isn’t real so they can do what she did to make their own hair look just as real and natural. I don’t think everyone’s trying to be spiteful & catty.
“you can buy your hair if it wont grow…”
She’s a beautiful woman and person. That’s all that counts when you really look at things. If it is her hair or not, it’s beautiful and so is she. Keep smiling Taraji!!!!!
FLIP SAKE Its not catty just to ask if its her real hair how is it when its a HAIR BLOG..Either everyones TOO CATTY or TOO PC God sake its a HAIR BLOG its only Catty if we get personal about her in a nasty way. We only are interested if her hair is real or not to Appreciate beautiful black women who have styles that are Natural etc where its not the Norm. Also for those who say they dont care one way or the other??? well If hair and who is wearing what style isnt important to you then FECK OFF!!! YES FECK is IRISH!!! roll eyes, i want to know about my celebrities and what hair she’s wearing thanks and on the WHITE hair sites they dont even get so STUPID as to go up agianst a question as this !!!! Some of you are so PC your foolish!
Whether it’s her hair or not, I really don’t care. I am a fan of Taraji because of her talent and her amazing character. All these people making negative comments regarding her hair need to have several seats. And as far as her misspelling “straightened”, get over it. I know all of you have made many typos on the internet. Why are black women so concerned about other black women lives and choices? Sweep around your own front door. The might end up becoming a cleaner place.
Maybe she has heat damage at the top from wearing weave…
taraji hair is long and beautiful she looks amazing with any style that she gets great actress i love her
Definitely is her hair. My hair looks the exact same way and is longer than that when blow dried.
some of you are blowing it out of proportion & taking it to another level. it really isn’t that serious. the question is: do you think it’s her real hair? simple. all the extra additives & going back/forth with each other is unnecassary. catty.
why is it that were questioning if this hair is really toTarsji’s???? why did nobody question when Angela Simmons revealed her so called real hair or when the Nikki Minaj revealed her so called real hair???? why is it a question for Taraji??? can darker black women not have a head full of healthy hair that happens to be long???? I’m extremely shocked and surprised that anyone on the site questions if that hair is real! this is why we black people never get ahead far too busy knocking each other down instead of lifting up!
Did she clarify her post or no?……i thought it was her hair at first but the caption was a little weird and makes me second guess that its her hair
It looks fake but who cares..doesnt make my day any better or worse
Wow! Just look at how we dog our sisters…her spelling is off, her hair isn’t real. What next? Her son isn’t hers either…huh? Just because she’a a star doesn’t mean she can spell you know, she is human and people aren’t perfect! Furthermore instead of questioning her hair, how about complimenting her beauty! Look at her, makeup free and still gorgeous. She has a very pleasant disposition , at least that’s what we see when she presents herself to us. When will black women stop tearing one another down? Now you have natural hair so you’re the epitome of perfection and truth? Get a life people? Real or fake she’s amazing.
My question is who cares? Whether it’s real or not, it’s HER hair and HER business. Why can’t everyone mind their own?
U part wig… Enough said. At the crown of her hair is straight (relaxed like) and underneath is a wig or weave of some sort.
what i’m trying to figure out is, why couldn’t this be her real hair? with so many of us going natural, not sure why this would be so doubtful? she is a beautiful and talented actress – it’s so hurtful to know that we as women of color can be so hateful and judgmental. if i found out weeks or months later that this is a weave, would it really matter?…you go taraji! you better work!!!!
To answer the question above, I purchase kinky straight hair in 14 & 16 inches then get it flat ironed because it looks exactly like relaxes Afro American hair when I’m done and everybody seems to think It’s my real hair based on all the comments I get. I do this because I big chopped and I don’t wear my fro out much, so Why would she do it? Because it looks real and at the end of the day isn’t that how we want our weave to look? When she wears that super silky long hair we all know It’s fake, but get some kinky straight and everyone will think It’s yours.
what kind of hair do you use?
I personally think WE as blackwomen found yet ANOTHER irrelevant matter to keep us divided, smh. It pains me to see how WE tear one another apart with our ignornant comments & unwanted opinions but then have the nerve to demand respect from other races. I normally don’t reply to these articles on this page because I feel it only promotes ignorance. I’m fine with reading articles pertaining to hair but when it comes to celebrity articles pertaining to hair or their lifestyle I think a line should be drawn because if those people were questioning our everyday lives, hair, behavior, childen, etc.. WE wouldn’t like it one bit! I’m off my soap box. peace & blessings
I think that she would have spelled Straightened correctly,LOL! She is a beautifully styled and poised lady with her hair in any style!!!!
don’t know, really don’t care and i am a bit perplexed as to why it is of (real)concern to anyone else…she is all beautiful in my eyes!!!
I read all the comments on Instagram questioning if it was her real hair. My question is why would a celebrity have to buy kinky weave just to have it flat ironed? Wouldn’t she have the money to buy the silkier hair closer to the look she was trying to achieve, no? Ijs
SHe actually stated on Wendy Williams show that she buys kiny hair that matches her hair that way if it gets wet it blends better. Im not saying this isnt her hair but I did hear her say that out of her own mouth
Forget the hair… her skin is flawless! Loving the makeup-free look.
Clearly you can see her straight shorter hair which is on the crown and then a different texture . This is definetly a hair piece.
Lets take a page out of ‘Good hair’… Now who would want a weave, they have to do that much work to?!?…. It looks natural to me! People normally sew ins to look more glamorous with less work, not the other way around…the shade is obvious in this post…smdh
She looks great and i love her smile,i think that the hair in the picture is her real hair.
This is why sometimes I cannot support sites that do this. Why do black women have to bash hair, regardless if it is fake or not? We claim that we hate it when society does it to us, but most comments are doing it. Hypocritical? But as a comment said, what entertain would MOST women on this site have?
I personally do not care if her hair is real or not because at the end of the day, she does not care. Honestly, I would not either. If you are not funding me or feeding me, why does another opinion matter? She is still a beautiful person.
We are better than this, so we should act like it.
Taraji wore her hair out in Think Like A Man, so I believe it. I’m more impressed by healthy hair, than long hair.
That looks like her hair–weaves tend to be bone straight. I’m betting a lot of Black women celebrities have had natural growing hair under their weaves all along as a protective measurement.
Peace
All I’m saying is, if that is in fact her real hair she needs to trim those ends and get it to looking healthy. Im natural and my hair is shiny, long, ends are clean, and I have a head full. Who cares if its her real hair or not as long as she paid for it its hers in my book.
To me its obvious this is not all her real hair, not only because of the picture but the fact she says “This is a lot of hair” addressed to another person. Look closer its a really good sew in, she made the statement because her weaves dont normally involve this much hair.
It’s believable. If you constantly protect your hair with wigs and weaves it can grow really well, provided you regularly wash, condition and care for your hair that is under the wig or weave. So, yes.
Sure it could be, looks like a blowout. Next step is the hot iron to get those ends tight.
OMG people are being so ridiculous. This looks exactly like what my relaxed hair looks like when its air dried or blow dried without the round brush/dominican technique. What kind of weave hair gets this kind of frizzy?
Au Naturale. MMM mm mm! YES!
thats a big boosh of hair. 🙂
She is a beautiful person and wonderful actress, but in reply to this..That is not all of her REAL HAIR.. I would put a million dollars on it! After years of doing hair, I can tell the difference just by looking it.Her really hair is straight, and the weave is a little frizzly..both well blended in..Still beautiful!
I admit I don’t know much about weaves (honestly never worn them or done research) but I’ve never seen a weave look like that. Granted, it could be washed human hair.
At the same time, the fact that so many of us immediately believed it could be her hair (even if we are wrong) is notable because a couple of years ago, NOONE would have assumed that because most did not believe our hair could look that long or thick. I can immediately recall numerous hair icons featured on BGLHONLINE that have straightened natural hair that full/long and even more so.
what it looks like to me is that the crown part is the hair she leaves out when she does get weaves and it is either relaxed or has heat damage so is straighter than the the rest of the hair. If you look closely you can see the roots and the underlaying hair match exactly. Its like that pic of lil waynes ex with the damaged edges.
The “Natural Celebrities” section of BGLH is already a questionable topic…It invites us to have an opinion/input/discussion on someone else’s hair and personal choices by asking us what we think or if it looks good…as if that matters. And then we get upset when our coworkers/families/friends/strangers are always commenting on OUR hair. Black women’s hair (and bodies) never stays out from under the microscope. Using celebs as inspiration is great, but otherwise their hair choices are irrelevant to me.
AMEN!!!!!! We have no right to be giving any one a pass or fail celebrity or not.
but we do that with our natural icons who are not famous as well. If we follow your reason, we cannot judge and check anyone’s hair, lol. We would lose the icon section, and about 70% of the fun of this site.
Well, she didn’t say it was all her hair. I know sistas can grow their hair long and thick, but usually her hair isn’t that long. Hey, weaves have to get blowdried too, right? She always looks good anyway!
I don’t know what the big deal is with black peoples hair, black women are capable of having long thick natural hair, so give us black women a break!!!
I love your hair just a natural beautiful black woman.
I don’t know what the big deal is with black peoples hair, black women are capable of having long thick natural hair, so give us black women a break!!!
Certainly looks like it.
White women wear weaves and wigs 2. AT Ms Perez who comment you have a predetermined lenght of hair is so suppid please don’t ever make another comment like that again. Black women hair grows for the most part at the same rate as every one else. Black women have dry hair that leads to breakage. They have to dye and perm the new growth every 4 to 6 weeks just like other women. That’s why you see women who always had short hair lock there hair up and it grows down there back in no time. that’s becausse the hair does not break off.
Yea i was thinking when would someone clear up that myth and face the fact that many Black women– the world over–do grow long, healthy hair. That is why our ancestors had elaborate styles(e.g. cornrows, locs, basket crowns) because these are ways to style long afro textured hair…
African American actresses wear weaves to protect their hair from the wear and tear of stylists who think they can treat our hair like its pencil straight….we all have the ability to grow our hair long if we treat it correctly..no matter how tight the curl..I think its her hair but either way…she’s still beautiful
My thing is when are we gonna speak up and stop wearing our hair straight for EVERY role? Most story lines and scripts don’t automatically call for straight hair.
Am I the only person bothered by the fact “straighten” is spelled incorrectly?!?
Other than that, “Everyone stay CALM-It’s just hair!”
Lol. That’s exactly what I was thinking! Forget the hair. What’s up with her spell check?
I know alot of women who are capable of having this length of hair and longer. There are so many methods to having strong hair and be a black person at the same time. So leaving room for doubt just means you’re leaving room for people to hate on her. But then again.. I doubt she cares considering she’s rich.
Remember when folks said the same thing about Oprah when she showed a picture of her hair after it was washed and blow dried. People were saying her hair was fake. Then she had two black women on her show say it wasn’t real and she had them run their hair through it??
If it is or isn’t, I still think she is beautiful and a phenomenal actress. When are black folks going to stop judging each other and just embrace not only are similarities but differences?
i think HER hair looks great. thick and lush.
love the hair looks good and im not saying its fake and im no homo but i know good hair and i like you just the way you r
Honestly, from the pic I really do think it is her hair. She is very beautiful regardless.
A lot of people commented on the fact that she still wears weaves and stuff, but maybe she wears the weaves to give her hair a break. Also, when you are in the acting business, hairstylist tend to do a lot of manipulating with your hair for certain looks so maybe she wants to protect her hair from all the manipulation. I’ve heard some stars complain about how damaged their real hair becomes when they are acting because of all the manipulation that is done to get a certain look for a certain movie or show. Just a thought.
If it is her hair…its beautiful!!! If she chooses to wear a weave to protect her mane from the daily stress of what I’m sure her career and constant styling would put on her hair than BRAVO!!! All protective styles aren’t natural braids, twists, buns, etc!!!! If weaves and wigs aren’t your preference of protective style then YAY for you…but don’t knock her!

I probably would have just liked your comment instead of making my own if I had seen it lol. I totally agree with you.
I think it is her hair, I also think Taraji is a beautiful young woman regardless of whether shes wearing a wig, extensions, or roleplaying as Benjamin Buttons aging adopted mother! And shes talented! Not to mention that her hair does not diminish the fact that she is role model for young woman, making a life for her and her yong son while carving out an awesome career!
I am so over celebs who show their ‘real hair’ on social media platforms, but keep walking around with those ridiculous indian remy peruvian malaysian brazilian virgin chinese, or what the hell the asians rename their hair these days, weaves and wigs. If you’re so proud of your hair, stop covering it up wear it!
Black women look so ridiculous with all that asian hair!!!
*Can’t wait for all the typical pro-asian hair responses. Bu..buu..but white women wear weave too. Eff what they do! Stop making asians rich of off your insecurities. Y’all look ridiculous.
I am so tried of HAIR POLICE coimg on here telling ppl how they shoudl or shouldn’t wear their hair. Its thei hair for a reason. Some naturals use weave as a way to protect the hair. I’m actually interested in using weave after my three yrs natural to achieve a staright hair styel before adding heat to my hair and leave teh weave in for 2 to 3 weeks. So please stop coming i n here acting holy than thou becuase before any of you talking down was natural what were you doing to your hair? Right whatever you wanted so allow ppl to do the same. # HairSnobs
Amen! For real..HATERS!
Oh, so I guess that Naomi Campbell wore weaves to protect her hair too, right? To the point where the weave was pulling out her hair on the sides, so much for protecting hair. Since when is wearing weaves protecting one’s hair???? I completely agree Eloisa!!
Anita Naomi’s hair is an example of when someone doesn’t take care of their hair PERIOD. Regardless if you wear a weave or not if you don’t properly take care of your hair it will look like that. And you do understand that protective styles are braids, twists etc etc correct? Wat do you think people do with their hair under a weave??? BRAIDS. ANYTHING done incorrectly can have a negative effect, hell TOO much exercising can result in muscle failure. Does that mean NO one should do it?? Clearly not…wearing a weave is the ULTIMATE protection for hair.. You know why? Bc they hair is PROTECTED in braids, under the weave. Lol if you properly moisturize, wash, and deep condition your real hair while wearing it, it can be VERY benefitial to hair. I transitioned for a year with weaves and wigs with my hair braided underneath and I achieved BSL completely natural hair in 20 months! Even now with the length I have I still will wear a wig.. Why? Bc sometimes my hair needs a break, and also Bc I want to change it up without damaging my hair. Weaves have been used as protective styling for YEARS… Once again I urge you to read a little on the subject before you judge
u 4 real? back then, models wore weave to get booked and because most designers have a LOOK they’re trying to achieve. Naomi, just didn’t have a good stylist to tell/show her right from wrong.
I LOVE TO SEE THAT MORE FEMALES ARE GOING NATURAL ITS A GOOD LOOK A LOT OF HARD WORK BUT OVER ALL BETTER FOR YOUR HAIR AND TARAJI NATURAL HAIR LOOKS NICE JUST SHOWING MY SUPPORT TO FEMALES WITH NATURAL HAIR GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY
can u call us women?
Why would he only say women when there is a world of teenagers as well as little girls who are returning to their natural hair?? Female covers ALL ages. Oh and this site is called black GIRLS with long hair… You have a problem with that too?
I think it’s ironic that we are questioning if this is all her long hair on a hair site dedicated to getting natural hair longer :<
If it is her’s she needs to stop looking so fraudulent. Misrepresenting herself for a paycheck and leading females in droves to creamy crack and horse hair. She can say ‘I’m not a role model’, but the sad fact remains that she is. If it’s her’s she should start acting like instead of posting ‘peek-a-boo’ pics. Immature behavior to brag about having hair and socially irresponsible to maintain a ‘professional’ image that subliminally suggests that other people should hate how they look naturally. For shame!
You ever thought for a second maybe she keeps it under wraps Bc styling your hair daily will damage her hair just like the rest of us?? You ever thought for a SECOND that the reason she has such long hair is Bc she protects it. Hence the phrase ‘protective style’….putting heat, and styling and manipulating hair everyday is WHY so many of us don’t have have long healthy hair. Educate yourself before you come on here calling other people irresponsible and immature…. Condemning someone for doing the RIGHT thing instead of feeling the need to show off all the time to me is immature. Read a hair blog or two then come back. Have a good day ma’am
This is HER instagram page. She can do what she wants. She is not obligated to consider her fans or haters every move she makes. I love Taraji. LOVE her. Real hair, fake hair, whatever. And so what she promotes weaves, etc, even if her hair IS real. Celebrities promote lipsticks and mascara, do they wake up with red lips. It’s called making that money. There’s a fine line between just making a living and outright immoral disception. It’s hair! It’s not her promoting exercise but she’s living in a plastic surgeon’s office, eats big macs and never hits the gym. People need to look inside themselves, none of us is 100% real or else hair salons, beauty products, nail salons, none of that would exist….and thank goodness for that!
Hair is just hair. Some people like to wear it natural, some like to wear perms, and some like to wear weave. There is nothing wrong with wearing it any of those ways, its just a different style. She isn’t misrepresenting herself or being a bad role model. Who ever said she had to be a “hair” role model. Whatever happened to allowing people to wear their hair however they like. I am natural and love my hair, but i wear weave because i am very busy in school and it is easier to care for at this time. Also, there is nothing wrong with bragging about your long hair; when my hair gets that long, trust, i will be bragging too. People are really taking this whole natural thing way too seriously.
taraji P. Henson forget those hatters that have negative things to say for the most part those are the one’s who are going into the shop looking like sanford and son and coming looking unbewaveable with at least 10 packs of hair so don’t worrie about what they say about your real hair not what they brought at the store you know what’s it called jealousy because you have and they don’t so show your beautiful natural hair that grew out of your head and not a pack it looks good on you baby.PS GOD BLESS you and keep it real.
I mean really, who the hell cares if it is or isn’t? Why can’t someone have something that isn’t doubted by others? Blacks can have naturally long hair and whites can have naturally short hair!! WHY IS THIS ALWAYS A QUESTION? WHY does it even matter? Why couldn’t someone just say, “Wow she has a lot of hair to straighten! Get to work”.
@tammi511 just to kinda present another POV, i don’t think the BGLH author is challenging the fact that it is or isn’t Taraji’s hair. I think theyre saying, “Taraji didn’t come out of my uterus and I’ve never run my two hands through her roots on a rainy day” – so no, they cannot print something that they do not know to be true. I actually applaud them for doing so. They don’t print gossip and hearsay, they like to stick to the facts. You stated “Blacks can have naturally long hair and whites can have naturally short hair!!” – I think if anybody knows this, its the writers that produce BGLH! So before you yell and scream at them, know that they work tirelessly to just keep it real and bring you the truth. And why is it important you ask: because this is a blog for women with natural hair who come here for inspiration, encouragement, clarity, and ideas. If that’s her hair, people want to know her regiment, what products she uses, how she retains length, etc… If it’s a weave, they want to know are weaves her go-to protective style, how does she maintain the hair, does her natural hair suffer or prosper, etc….. thats why its important….on a blog…..about hair….. *just my two cents*
Um..hello…stop taking everything so personal. The blatant reality is that Yes, some black women have been able to grow out their hair long..BUT…a great many, many, many have NOT been able to do so. I live in NYC where there are all cultures, ethnicities, etc. My sister is half black and could NEVER grow her hair out that long. It is a fact, that every woman has a BIOLOGICALLY pre-determined hair length and their hair will not pass that length. Just like some attributes are found most often in Latinas (olive skin/dark hair), most often in White women (light eyes/blonds, etc), some attributes just happen to be found most in Black women (shorter, kinkier hair, no blonds, etc).
You make it a race issue, why? He has no reason to believe that’s her natural hair because it’s not as common to find such long hair, natural long hair, on a Black woman, just like it’s most often a surprise to find a round, fat butt on a white chick (naturally).
Get over it, already. Making an issue out of nothing. If I had blue eyes and people asked me are those really your eyes (because I’m Puerto Rican), I wouldn’t get offended. It’s a totally legitimate question because how many of us have blue eyes?
I agree Tina, I don’t think that the question should be taken personally. I would be wondering too if all that hair was really Taraji’s, because let’s face it, most black actreses/singers, don’t wear their real, they are usually wearing wigs and weaves, Lord knows that Sherri Shepherd is a good example of that. I don’t think that I have ever seen her real hair except once when she wore it on the View, and then had to make a big announcement about it. I think that if more black actresses wore their real hair sometimes maybe people wouldn’t be questioning so much if it is really their’s or not. I have seen Taraji wear wigs before so who really knows how long her real hair is, but to me, it looks like all of hers in the picture. You can tell by the texture of it. I thought I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that she didn’t have a perm, but flat irons it, so maybe that’s why her hair has grown so much.
I say it’s hers. Personally, I’d never buy a weave with split ends. How do I know they’re split, or at least frayed? Because mine looks like that. It’s hers! Congratulate her! She’s beautiful and doin it!
Who cares either way but het hair was short in Jet Dec 10th issue. Who lies about this type of ish its really not that serious for this much debate
NOPE, its not her REAL HAIR here IS THE PIC OF IT STRAIGHTEN!!!
All her hair or not I think its fabulous!
That is not all her hair. Y’all are too gullible. How does, “This is a lot of hair” translate to it’s all hers? That’s a big weave. Let it go.
i dont think this is her real at all. she just said a lot of hair not have to straighten it. if u go back and watch baby boy u will see her real hair. she wore her real hair for most of the movie. completely two different textures. it looks like a weave that u can wash. but this doesn’t mean her real isn’t long. Her real hair is shoulder length. but this is not hers
Her hair is so full and lovely!
I don’t know where the writter of this article gets the info (Taraji sure didn’t claim this to b her hair). She’s one of our best..But this is definetly not all her hair. You can clearly see where her hair ends and the weave begins.

Not that it matters either way, but what part of her statement makes everyone think this is her natural hair?
black woman’s hate to see someone else hair longer then theirs
Idiots! Lol
She never said it was all hers
And if ts not..who cares
If it is…who cares
Must we continue to micro dissect every single thing. I promise black women and they hair us always a fierce topic. It’s up there with religion and politics! Get over it, either grow it, cut it, perm it, dred it, rid it or braid it…but shut up talking about it fir Christ sakes,
um you do realize that you’re on a site dedicated to hair right?
Omg…that’s EXACTLY what I was thinking just before I scrolled down to see your comments. Some people are so weird. lol!
….and then she has the audacity to call everybody else “idiots”. LOL!
I follow her on IG too and if you look chronologically you’ll see it’s a weave. Looks good done though!
Its beautiful. My hair looks like that before straightening so what if its real or fake. I believe its real! How about that. No matter what people do its haters everywhere. Why do people make it a point to critize others. LOL Im laughing at em.
I am with you sis, most of the haters are African American woman who are the first ones to say negitive things. We have always had long beautiful hair way before the (lye) relaxer stuff came along. I think now a days most of us are afraid to wear our hair unrelaxed. The looks and the whispers that will start soon as you leave your house those looks, and whispers will be from mostly Black Woman. A Black Woman news person just lost her job because she stopped relaxing her hair, and she refused to wear a wig The producer of the network said she was not connecting with the (white)woman audience anymore and they fired her. So please don’t hate celebrate our natural look ladies.

The straight hair at the top/root of her head is her hair, and the un-straightened hair underneath is weave. She explained on the Wendy Williams Show that she was tired of burning her edges out trying to match the texture of the weave, so she asked her stylist to use hair that matched her texture instead of the Indian and Malaysian hair that was being used.
really? Why has she been hiding all of THAT??? lol. Its gorgeous. Even if kinky/curly doesn’t work for Hollywood actresses, she could have at least worn it straightened. If you have great real hair, WEAR IT.
I think her words were probably misinterpreted. She didn’t say it was all hers, she just said this is a lot of hair and I have to agree with the above poster… Look closely!
Wow. It seems that we are conditioned to assume that a black woman’s hair is always fake if it passes her collarbone. To those of you who are concerned that she never said that this is her real hair, why would she post this picture of a weave before it is flat ironed??? The intent of the picture is obviously to show her real hair, and I think it is safe to assume that it is. As others have said, longer natural hair (and possibly relaxed hair, but I do not remember) tends to look “fried” at the ends after it has been blow dried at high heat. I know, because that’s what my hair does. In addition, the top part may be heat trained because she leaves that part out while wearing her weaves. Also, some women’s hair tends to grow in a “mullet” pattern because the front tends to be more fragile, and it breaks more than the back. That is probably why you see different lengths in her hair.
U r soo right!! I have natural below the shoulder lenght hair but I wear a weave when I want straight hair or want to add a lil color and I leave hair out at the top for a ‘natural’ part. And when I take my weave out, my hair in the front doesnt have the same texture as the rest of my head bc of me strightening my leave out. Anyhoo she has beautiful hair!
I luv her, but I don’t think that’s all of her hair. The texture and fullness is inconsistent from the front vs the rest of her hair. I have natural hair and “natural looking” extensions in now and my hair+weave looks just like hers.
Hatred is a hell of a thing. Instead of saying that is not all her hair, congratulate her on being natural. By the way it is not uncommon for a woman who has worn weave a lot to have long natural hair beneath her weaves. The fact is that hair grows best when left alone and not excessively manipulated. PS as woman who myself have natural Tariji length and volume hair, I can tell you that is how your hair looks flat ironed. The different texture on the top can be a result of her excessive heat that is sometimes used on the top as opposed to the bottom. Usually because in weave we flat iron the top regularly to be straight and blend into the weave that we are wearing. THIS IS ALL HERS> DO NOT HATE!
Preach.
It might just be my phone, but a post may say “34 comments” yet only 6 are shown. Is it just me?

If I wear my hair in braids for 2-3 months it takes about 3 relaxer cycles for my hair to get straight and it NEVER gets bone striaght so I can always wet & wear slightly wavy.
AA hair has a natural wave and your hair “learns” based on how you style it especially over extended periods as MyClutchedPearl attested.
Thanks MyCluthcedPearl. :o)
My hair looks just like that after blow drying and I don’t have weave, don’t have any split ends and have healthy hair. I don’t allow anyone to relax me to the ends (damaging)and I only relax my new growth once every 9 weeks (5 times a year). It dries out fast so I have to keep it moisturized but that’s just my texture. My sister’s hair is natural and it looks like this before she gets it pressed and it’s so thick it takes almost 3 hours to press. My niece has natural unprocessed hair to her butt…looks just like this before ading any moisturizers or pressing.
You can have multiple textures in one ead of hair and not everyone’s hair acts in the same manner. ie) I cant sit under a dryer for any style. I have to blow dry & flat iron to get straight hair, even with a relaxer. My hair gets dry & brittle and the stylist will be washing me out and starting over if they try.
Have you all thought that maybe the top looks relaxed because that is the area of her hair which is ALWAYS straight? Natural hair will have a different texture if the top is always left out when they wear weaves and has to be straightened to maintain the style while the rest of the hair isnt bothered and is braided up in a sew in? If you constantly straighten natural hair then it will be trained and it will be straight. When Taraji wears her weaves her real hair is ALWAYS out in the front for a more natural look rather than going for the lace front look.
It could still be hers…i have about four textures in my head an the part in the top could have been chemically straightened because thata the part left out in some of her weaves
I wish she would have said whether or not this is her real hair or not so people can stop bugging out on the comments lol
Exactly!! LOL
Folks, Taraji has a short, bob haircut. This is likely Yaki textured extensions (which looks awesome, so no shade). Probably just had them sewn in and now about to get it flat ironed.
You could be right notice she didnt say my real hair BGLH is assuming its her hair
Do you ladies not know what real hair looks like anymore? That’s all her hair. It’s not overprocessed/overpressed so she has some of her natural wave pattern coming though and her ends are not “fried” as someone suggested.
Lmao there are style icons tht have 3 or 4 different textures in their hair.. I know for a fact I have at least 3..
Let stop tearing down this sister. At the end of the day she is doing her thing to represent black females so I am proud. I would rather see hero sting pictures ofnhernhairnthan something that would hurt her career. Go Taraji! We don’t go natural..we go back to Natural!
Looks like her hair on the top over perhaps something extra at the bottom 🙂
That’s not all her hair. You can see the different textures. Her hairs stops right at the chin and is laying on top of the natural textured weave. Still cute though.
My hair has 3 different textures in it lol
I see different lengths not textures!
You’re right. I took a closer look. She’s still a great actress, and her hair always looks good!
I was about to thumbs down those who were at the assumption that this isn’t her hair. However, like Nicole mentioned,it looks like her real hair is laying over totally different textured hair. It looks like a relaxer at the top and what a blow out would look like underneath that. Whatever the case, its cute!
the different textures comes from constantly flat ironing the leave out. She wears weaves all of the time and when she get’s her sew in’s she leaves her own natural hair out in the front for a more natural look. The different textures comes from the front always being flat ironed and the back is always braided up in a sew in so it is not touched by heat.
Glad I’m not the only one that didnt see it. I thought everyone’s ends look like this in a blow out
That’s often how natural hair looks when it’s been blow-dried as straight as possible. I think her ends are fine. The next step is the real heat which will smoothe those bushy ends.
Her hair is AWESOME!!!
Looks like a natural weave because of the difference…. I’ve seen textured weaves look like that and need flatiron
you could be right…..she didnt say it was her hair….and it does have very different length, who knows….
Seen it on MTO, it looks great she should wear it out sometimes….
Her ends are fine, its just the picture. I’m sure she takes excellent care of her hair, that’s why its so long. Otherwise the split ends would cause it to break out and be all different lengths. I would love to know her regimen!!
Nice length but her ends look a bit rough…just saying
I presume to keep that much length her must be healthy, but her ends look fried to me. Not trying to hate, just saying.
I was thinking the same thing. Trim those damaged ends then show us a pic of the healthy hair.
Sidebar: why is long “natural” hair the holy grail? Why is taking pics like these necessary? What are we proving??
Regarding your sidebar comment, whether we are natural or relaxed it seems the goal is long hair!! And now the trend is with social media is to show off your long hair, thats why the “style icon” feature on this site exist and just think this page is Black Girl LONG hair….
We as a people have always been chasing long hair with we call it bra strap lenght…lol
And just because you state, ‘I’m just saying’, doesn’t mean your statement is not full of hate…her hair is not completely straightened so her ends look fine…especially or a blow out!!!
LOVE it! Just shows what protective styling through weaves can do!
For some not everyone who wears will end up with this much hair its all about caring for that hair and how the weave is done
Well of course I didn’t mean all. There is no all cure for anything. But for those that say there are no benefit to wearing weaves as many do, this among other pictures we see that if used correctly can be a great protective style
Yes there is benefits if done correctly….by a professional
