Actress Tia Mowry, who is now starring in Nick at Night’s Instant Mom, was spotted leaving the gym rocking a short curly fro. She’s kept her curls under wraps since doing a big chop in September 2012, so it’s nice to see a glimpse. From the looks of it, Tia is opting to keep the length short instead of grow it out. We like!

Ah these comments are disgusting.
Smh.
Tias curls are delicious though 🙂
I follow her on IG and she’s always posting about natural hair and Cree is all afro-ed out I love it.
Hope to see her sporting her TWA openly, that would be cute.
Oh yeah, and I love Tia’s hair.
So do I 🙂
When you put another sister down, you are putting yourself down. Our job as black women is to lift each other up by loving and healing one another. Making negative remarks about how another sister looks is hateful, ignorant, and a complete waste of time. The last thing any of us needs is to be scorned by one of our own. The world has got that covered.
so much nastiness 🙁
I just watched Spike Lee’s School Daze and the current conversation has me wanting to scream “Wake Up”!!!
To all the critics in the room.
The direction that the commenting on this article took is crazy. Wasn’t the point of the article an update on Tia’s hair as a fellow natural. I didn’t see anything about nominations or awards for beauty. While everyone is entitled to an opinion, there are appropriate and inappropriate times to voice one’s opinion. When the topic is a person’s hair and apparent hair care preferences and decisions, comments focused on their attractiveness (or lack thereof) unrelated to their hair seems mean spirited.
My personal opinion is I like her hair and I think it compliments her features. Considering the fact that she is shown coming from the gym without the benefit of makeup or any other enhancements, I think she looks great.
@Mary in Md-I totally agree. How did this turn so negative? This site is supposed to be about hair. Who cares if someone doesn’t like someone else? It’s not about them. It’s only about H-A-I-R. For the negative comments……FOCUS! Show some respect not only for others, but for yourselves. And don’t forget that “others” review this site and can see all of the anarchy going and “they” just love it! Don’t give them the opportunity to make you look worse than you are looking right now. Have some self-respect and you will surely get it back!! In regards to Tia’s hair, I think it’s gorgeous! It’s a new look for her and she wears it well. Please everyone, let’s get back to the topic. TY lol!
You know when I very first looked at the picture, i to said something about her face to myself, however i had to check myself before i got on here talking about her photo to but after reading comments her appreance i decideded not to.. she is very pretty, we don’t always look our best after doing all that we do to keep up our apprearance. Word to the negative comments take a look in the mirror yourself…but thank you first take a good look at you
Where do peeps like colalover come from anyway. Tia is so pretty and her curls r so so cute. So happy she’s natural 🙂
Listen, All I said was that I wouldn’t classify Tia as “pretty” at least I’m being honest unlike yourself, who sounds like a brown nosing fake. I also never found certain male celebrities attractive fir example Al B. Sure Why do black women have to smile be positive and compliment each and eveyone ALL the time. Why are so many on this site insisting that everyone’s opinion remain lock and step,? Not everyone feels the way you do. Use your logic please, not everyone agrees on what is or is not attractive moron. 🙂 So you have never seen a person you felt was attractive? If you can say someone is attractive then I can say that person is not to my liking. Maybe some people don’t fancy the same things? I’m bi- sexual so no I wouldn’t date Tia.
This is a hair site. Don’t lose focus. Keep your nasty remarks to yourself. It’s not cute or witty. It makes you look very negative and harmful to others. As long as others see these types of comments coming from, “sisters” they will always think very little of us. Word for the day: Speak your hurtful comments about others to your close friends only. Don’t let others know your ignorance. The new hair look on Tia is beautiful. Color has nothing to do with it.
I dont see the big deal with the hair
If it grows out your head, it’s natural! Doesn’t matter what ya do to it AFTER it grows out. Wigs, weaves are not natural. I see notning wrong with wearing wigs or weaves. It’s a free country, so women wear your hair the way you choose.
I thought this was a hair site….so why the heck are y’all discussing light skin vs dark skin, good looking vs ugly???? All y’all comments are irrelevant. Her hair looks nice and its cute how she has it short and natural vs Hollywood standard of purchased hair weaves. Keep doing your thing Tia!
Why are we so negative towards each other. Her curls are cute!
She looks good! No make-up AND she just got done with the gym AND it’s a candid? Loves!
Thank you Trina!! Since this a natural hair post and it went straight downhill. I understand that everyone has a right to their own opinions. But remember that opinions are like a**holes everyone has one but you don’t have to be one. Good grief!!!! That is the problem w/ the world today. It is so critical of others. Clearly this child was just leaving the gym and isn’t wearing any makeup. But it is a possiblity that she probably looks better w/o makeup than some of you look with it.
Hypocrisy is just as bad…so you’ve never looked at soneone and thought, “Eh na?” Maybe some don’t fancy her look? Ever think of that? I think some people were being a holes but some just don’t fancy her look and that’s ok. I bet she would even be ok with that herself. I hate when people say things, just to get thumbs up. I think you have also called someone unattractive in a comment section in your whole entire life, come on you must have said someone was not to your particular taste, yes you have so don’t fib.
Any chance the hateful comments posted here can be deleted???
It’s called freedom of speech. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it has to be censored.
Proof positive that the lighter and whiter you are the quicker you age! Hail to the Black or shall I correctly say Brown people of the world!
Proof positive that all biracial people are not attractive.
Why are you so hateful? This light skin dark skin mess needs to stop! Tia is pretty. I don’t see any aging. Maybe your blind SMH!
Tia is not pretty. There is pretty and ugly in every race. Next yall gonna say Tracy Ross is pretty. Get real. Beauty is a lottery doesn’t matter race.
Where do your comments come from-from some pics indeed Tia like the one above may look average but I have seen other pics where is is beautiful and I think most people would see Tracey Ross as a very beautiful women, very attractive at that.
Ok but that is my point, people need to stop insisting that everyone be lock and step on here. What may sound negative to you may not be negative to me or someone else. Some just choose to be honest. No one put her down, some may not fancy her look. She may be a very good person on the inside maybe she is a bitch? Who knows? just wouldn’t date her if I were single. That is my opinion. All these are opinions. If your opinion varies from soneone else, don’t call the person negative. I prefer flatter features.
Plus what does she care what we say? She looks happy. And I am sure her joy is more important than her looks at the end of the day.
People be on Tracy Ross too. I can’t see it!
I agree with you. Some just don’t like to keep it real. I am mixed and I don’t think we are all beautiful. Anyone can be gorgeous, beauty is a lottery.
You all are true haters.. For you to even to be commenting on complexion and race shows where your insecurity lies. And where did Tracy Ross name come from? Yes, everyone can have their own opinion and speak the truth but save it for your Therapist. This article is talking about Tia’s natural hair not skin complexions. Its so unattractive for a woman to hate on another. It makes you look mentally ill and insecure.
I was not the individual who brought up complexion you retard?!You sound like a jealous, ignorant idiot yourself! I stated that I was attracted to both sexes earlier moron. Tia Mowry just isn’t my type! You are truly slow, if you believe that another woman is mentally ill, just because they prefer one type of look over another? Why don’t you include BI OR GAY males in your analysis? Why couldn’t a guy be “mentally ill” if he notices someone with looks he doesn’t fancy? WHY oh why do you only feel the need to shame other females about it. Sounds like you’re into double standards to me and need your own head checked. Yes! You need to check your own mental health in that case. I get tired of people like you who ignorantly assumes that someone is “hating” just because they give an honest opinion. It’s America and I will say what I want. I’m nit one to sugarcoat bs because people are indeed brainwashed. You need to stop reading so far into what someone says. I stand by what I say, because you witness it all the time where people who are “mixed” are assumed, ” prettier, more intelligent, better” If you are an individual of any kind of African descent you are well aware of this stereotype about mixed people. It started during slavery, so if you’re gonna be in denial about colorism in this country and talk bs and can’t handle a candid opinion then go talk to someone who ssys what you want to hear? I never speak in code, I’m direct and to the point as well as diplomatic. Sounds like you could see the SAME therapist you vlaim I need to see. Honestly with all the unstable, foaming at the mouth, irrational anger you expressed over some damn strands on a chicks head, you may even need mood control medicine. I have heard great things about ZOLOFT.
Maybe you’re the “hater” did you ever think of that!? You sound like the ugly chick in high school no one wanted to date due to pimples and bad breath. Poor thing, I detest bullying myself, and so sorry if you took this personally. Bish please, I can give f!?#%* about skin tone! Beauty comes in all colors dummy. I have met beautiful girls of all colors! You see, only someone as clueless as you thinks everyone is as into color as you seem to be! And even if someone does prefer specific skin tone, what’s it to you!? I swear I never knew there were so many grown adults acting like straight up dumb asses in this world!
Right… I’m well aware of where dark skinned vs light skinned came from and you seem to have some knowledge of that. I spoke about her hair because I was reading the article above..??? Im pretty sure it’s talking about natural curls..?? Hmm, maybe not??? 😛 But in your earlier statement by you: “I am mixed and I don’t think we are all beautiful.” Followed by your last statement:” I stand by what I say, because you witness it all the time where people who are “mixed” are assumed, ” prettier, more intelligent, better” If you are an individual of any kind of African descent you are well aware of this stereotype about mixed people.” sounds a little contradicting. If you are truly mixed, then you would understand what its like to truly be stereotyped and not say such things. No different than a dark skinned woman defending another dark skinned woman that’s being told she is ugly. The reason I say this is because I’m mixed with blk/panamanian/wht and can relate.
Continued…
Im constantly being told I think I’m better because of my complexion or “I’m stuck up.” And all I have to do is care about my appearance to be criticized. Or not respond to an uneducated black man trying to holla at me. If I let myself go, drove a hoopti, and was living on welfare I would not be criticized. So when I hear someone bringing up complexion in an argument that is not related, its easy to point out the mad ugly black woman. Just keeping it 100. Your little tantrum you threw about me saying that doesn’t faze me, and your the one of many dumbass adults in this world. If you want to stand for African Descents than do so to all light and dark. It’s not my fault the media advertises me as the better black. Take it out on the right people and stop hating on each other.
I think she looks adorable. She and Tamara are so cute. I loved their curls as kids.
I see the Natural Hair Police is out in full effect today! Gosh darn, her hair is in the state it grows out of her head and it is short, if that is not a TWA I don’t know what is. I’m a 4c woman, and sometimes it comes across to me that we want to demonize women with a looser texture, as if that’s their fault. My future child will be biracial, is this the crap their gonna have to deal with.
The natural hair community needs to stop shooting itself in the foot. Debates if your natural cause you straighten, color…if we debated another race on this they’d look at us like we smoked a pipe. Stop creating division where there isn’t any
There’s no such thing as the ‘natural hair police’…just people with differing opinions. If we went on that predication we’d have to call some people on here the ‘natural hair police-police’…and some the ‘natural hair police-police-police’, which also sounds silly. Let people have a differing opinion, who cares. No one will ever agree on everything in this crazy world. With that being said, I don’t think her hair is an afro. I’ve seen it long, NOT an afro. Now I’ve seen it short, still NOT an afro. Natural?? Yeah. Afro?? No.
My two cents, spend it wisely.
Vonnie I’m gonna have to give you a thumbs down girlfriend, because with all due respect, no one is demonizing her for her hair texture! You seem to have read pretty far into the opinions of others. We are just giving the TWA the respect it deserves in my opinion. I have hair similiar to Tia Mowry and her sister, so why would people with almost identical hair “demonize” her? That makes no sense? She doesn’t lean black in the first place. Some take more after the white parent and it’s very difficult to classify our hair type as a TWA. It’s simply not a TWA! It’s just like when white people call you “dark” because they think EVERYONE’S dark that’s not white! Her hair is short and curly. A TWA is more of a small afro. This site is about hair, so I see nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious. If a person has strawberry blonde hair then you don’t call calling it platinum blonde.
I agree with you,we have these different acronyms for hair-like APL/ML/TWA/ ETC its just an easy way to define what bracket you fall into.
Sheesh, it shouldn’t matter whether or not her hair type classifies as a TWA. If the author calls it so, that’s her opinion. If Tia wanted to call it one, that’s her opinion. If you don’t think so, there’s no reason to argue. If she wanted she could pick it out and call it one. Hair is hair, lol, and i’m pretty sure she doesn’t care !
The point is it’s natural. I’m sure if she picked it out it would be more “fro like”. Let’s just remember Tia didn’t label this style a TWA, the author of this did. To Tia this may be a wash and go with a leave in conditioner. I wouldn’t call it a fro because she has really big defined curls. Hey and we all have different hair types which means we all can’t wear the same type of natural styles, doesn’t mean that we are hating on one particular hair type. But once again the point of the article is that she is letting her natural hair show not identifying the technical style.
I love Tia’s natural look which includes both hair and face. She look so lovely. Maybe I should wear my hair like that. It’s cute!
Bandwagon or not, she is a lovely lady wearing her curls out. I always admired them when I was a kid, and still admire them now.
http://curlycoilygirl.blogspot.com/
I really adore her with short hair, its very becoming!
To resolve the dram over the TWA debate on her. In a way her hair is not a TWA for it doesn’t grow in an afro shape but it is an honest mistake nothing to get in a debate about. Tia hair is somewhat between a type 2c and 3b very wavy and curly but grows in a downward spiral like straight hair instead of upward like afro hair. Hope this help clarify things up. If I an I’ll attach two well known black celebrities Chili who hair grows downward and Tracee Ellis Ross who hair grows in an afro.

Seriously…I swear this debate over different hair textures are so banal….come on ppl…Negro hair is a variety of textues and curls so get over it…like it really should not be an issue unless you personally have to deal with it or is trying to find the right style…A suh wi born and a suh wi head stay….Now really this BS about black hair is really very arrrrrrrrrrg…..cant even find the words.
Nergo hair?
So now some women decides if some ones hair is a TWA? Because she is mixed and doesn’t have a tighter curl texture and her hair is short is not a TWA? Wow. Hair is hair. But I guess smh
Omg seriously? The twins have always been natural! Duh. That’s not a twa! For one she has a white mom and her hair and phenotype are closer to white. They are actually Italian or Jewish if anything! But no this is not a TWA it’s just short hair.
Their mum is a black women who has never been white do your homework first and how do you know their hair if her hair is straightened or natural, you don’t…none of us do.
I don’t care which parent is black or white, she’s biracial or other MORON!!! You blind? . Anyone can see that. Not all people with black blood straighten their hair nut job…Do YOUR homework.
My point was addressed because it was said her mother was white,if you are going to voice opinion then voice the facts, otherwise your argument is flawed..nobody said she wasn’t biracial, learn to deal with your anger issues, its glowing.
Do your research before you start spouting off nonsense in the comment section, doofus.
Their father is white so they’d are ‘t Black but biracial.
They
Uhm there mother is black, and wasn’t tia and tamera born in Germany?
Can you all let her live? The woman’s hair is simply just short. If she chooses to wear it straight the majority of the time, so what? It’s her hair.
It would be nice to see her wear it more often, instead of being reduced to a workout hairstyle.
I think her hair is cute, and what’s sad is how we self-segregate. Why isn’t it a TWA? And, what difference does it make? Who are these texture police who decides whose hair is black enough to be considered Afro? I don’t know if it’s generational but this generation seems much more focused on something we seemed to have been moving away from in the sixties. The more it’s focused, the more it becomes it a reality at least for us as a group. It’s just silly to me, because we have many other issues to focus on.
I don’t think it’s about having “Black enough hair” or about self-segregation, at least not for me anyway. But that looks like a TWC–a Teeny, Weeny, Curl (lol). And there is NOTHING wrong with that. Black women have so many different textures of hair, and sometimes 3 different textures on one head. It’s not all an afro and it isn’t all a curl. There is nothing wrong with distinguishing the two. What’s wrong with people recognizing that her hair looks more like short curls versus a short afro? It’s cute either way. Not all afro’s have distinguishable curls and not all curls are an afro. That doesn’t make anyone any less Black to me.
Damnit clicked thumbs down by mistake 🙁
Well Cheri don’t further “self-segregate” by making this a generational issue. It’s not. Besides, we don’t know the age of the people who post here or anywhere online where people post anonymously. What are you even talking about referencing the 60s? Don’t act like there weren’t “issues” among black people at that time. Enough already.
That’s not a teeny weeny afro, that’s short curly hair. The curl isn’t tight enough to be considered an afro.
ridiculous .
So it has to be kinky to be a tea? Oh please!
**twa. My autocorrect doesn’t her natural hair lingo lol
Man how I have miss their sister, sister hair! I think all wante their hair growing up.
I love this site supports Black women like this, this isn’t a mocking post about her because her hair isn’t done and she’s in a tracksuit without make-up. Our media can be so much better than that kinda judgemental crap. I love Black hair and Black women, always stop a sister on the street to tell her how good she looks. The world keeps telling us our hair’s too big or our lips are too big or our hips are too big… maybe their minds are too small?
Looks great!!
I didn’t know Tia went back natural. Amazing what weaves and a flat iron can do. She looks beautiful either way.
Very cool. We already got a full glimpse at their natural hair when they were on sister sister. It’s interesting how they relaxed their hair to signify that they were all grown up. I really wish they would have bucked the trend and worn their natural hair in different styles..etc..but it’s all good.
That doesn’t look like a TWA to me,just a women with short hair..not everybody is jumping on the natural wagon.
…But she IS natural so she’s already on the wagon so to speak. and I maybe wrong but a TWA is short natural hair
I was told TWA stood for teeny, weeny afro.
Not to start anything but I think for some (a lot?) people TWA are a descriptive for people for kinkier/curlier hair texture ?!
Agreed, Tia got a short haircut and it’s growing out. She just has short curly hair, GOAPELE has a TWA 🙂
She is a black woman her hair is natural it is “kinky curly” it isn’t straight, agree with us or not, when it gets longer if she was to wear it out in its natural state it will look like an afro so for now while its short its a tiny afro. Just because it doesn’t look as kinky as some of the other textures we (usually) describe as afro that doesn’t mean its not an afro!!!!!!!!!
