Is it too much volume? Or do you think it’s cute? Would you rock this? Side note: those shoes are to die for. And I LOVE the color of her suit/romper thingy.
Thank you for your time and wonderful read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff your upcoming blog posts…
I DONT KNOW WHAT ALL THE JUDGEMENTAL COMMENTS ARE ABOUT, BUT HER STYLE IS FRESH AND LOVE THE BRAIDS. The style suits her and so what she was mainstream before, life is about evolving and change!!!
It’s not the hair that makes her hot, it’s her self-confidence that seems to shine through in every picture that’s been cropping up lately. Not particularly a fan of the braids atop head style, but she’s still hot.
It actually don’t look that bad, but I really do like the outfit and shoes. I would just be afraid of a bird of tree limbs getting caught as I’m under under it lol…..
I <3 it! solange's style was DEFINITELY questionable in the beginning, but she is really growing into herself and I love all of her looks as of late:o)
I want the romper! As for the hair I like it on her. But it isn’t my style. If I had a romper like that*sighs* I think it would call for my biggest fro!…Or a big puff 🙂
I say it’s hmm. Not because it looks bad (It’s a braided pompadour!) but because summer is no time for butt length extensions. It’s just TOO hot and yet ignoring practicality(and possible neck muscle strain) Solange is rocking these super long braids anyway on the top of her head rather than having them done shorter.
I saw this picture, went to the store and bought 6 packs of yaki hair and put these braids in my hair! My bun isnt exactly like this (its my version of the ninja bun) and I get a lot of compliments on it!!! Keeping this funky protective style until my natural anniversary in October!
I wish I could pull off the whole romper look. I think some women wear it well (Solange being one of them), so it looks good in the picture. I love the color! It complements her skin tone so well.
HOTT!!! In fact im rocking those poetic justice braids right now and I needed something fresh to try so this will be my next stop…Thanks Solange girl (Of course I will make it my own lol)
I so love Solonge!! I think that everything she does fits her. When I do see pics of her, she ALWAYS looks comfy in her own skin no matter what shes wearing or how her hair is styled. I love the look!!
I need that romper!!
Solange is in a league all on her own. I love her style and her over all look(shoes and the bag are haute!!!) Now me on the other hand, I could not rock this look if my life depended on it…lol
I saw this photo floating around the hair blogs last week, and was obsessed with figuring out how she did this bun/pompadour style instantly. I’m even toying with the idea of some booty braids for myself, just so I can try to recreate this look!
yeah I would rock the whole look too with slightly less hair on top. Its cute on her but I dont know how how it would look on my forhead…
But the outfit is def a HIT!
Honestly it was the blue bag that topped it off. It made me say well done Solange, well done 🙂
I love big messy hair and all but if you live in DC like me… this will remind you of the way the young middle school and high school students wear their braids on top of the front of their heads… lol
I’m not in love with her hair, it doesn’t bother me… I really like the romper, love the color, and I enjoy the shoes… I love Solange.
I feel you Maha..I live in DC and I used to see the girls piling braids on top of their heads looking like a birds nest and they pile on tons of red lipstick…lol.
@Victoria that’s what I was thinking… I was like, “all she needs is some bright red clown lipstick and she could go to DC public schools and fit right in”
I always think Solange looks a mess, but maybe her style is just not the same as mine. Sometimes I think if she wasn’t a natural everyone would just dismiss her.
I do like her braids, I don’t know if I would wear the style this big. If I did it would be furthur back on my head instead of on top of it. That’s only because I’m not famous though, I don’t want to draw that much attention lol.
Funny, to me she is always chic and stylish without being too conservative or a confuzzled mess labouring under the guise of ‘edgy’. I think it is horses for courses because not everyone is bold enough to wear the outfits and hairstyles she wears. To me hot messes show too much flesh or wear every print and colour in the closet at once or they have awful make up or clothes that are far too short and tight when they don’t have the figure to match. Lady Gaga always looks like an unsophisticated mess to me yet to some she’s the greatest Madonna impersonator….. sorry pop star since all the other people who were actually contributing something worthwhile to music. Some may dismiss Solange as a hipster that they just don’t get but whether in this pic or at Coachella, I love and remember her clothing.
I didn’t call her a hot mess, just a mess. She always looks as if she rushed out the house to me. Oily skin, hair out of place, make up not done well (or at all, just some red lip stick thrown on). Not saying this doesn’t happen to all of us, but if someone is my style icon she has got to do better than this. That’s all I’m saying. But hey, that’s my opinion. Didn’t say you had to agree.
btw, I think lady gaga is a prime example of a HOT mess. ick.
Course not, I respect your opinion and as I said this style is not going to be to everyone’s tastes. I like effortless, others may prefer a look that shows that more labour has gone into it.
I LIKE SOLANGE SO LEAVE HER
ALONE

I like this look but I still generally dismiss her.
Before rocking natural hair, her style was very “mainstream celebrity” – she looked like Beyonce’s mini-me…like she was Skipper to Bey’s Barbie.
Public response to her natural hair presented a new platform for her to stand apart and promote herself. So, she fired/hired her stylist and re-invented herself.
And I’m not saying that re-invention or style evolution can’t ever happen to a person but, to me, her current style – and thus, the hipster” or indie culture that she is now communicating her affiliation with through clothing – seems disingenuous…. and that really bugs me (as I’m sure my very subjective comment will bug her loyal fans.)
To me, she always seemed kinda awkward when she had the weaves and typical (don’t mean to offend) styles that you see in hollywood…she seemed to just be dressing like her older sister and the whole crowd they were part of.. now she really does seem much more confident and carefree the way she dresses now. She might not always dress this way but if she went through a real change on the inside to expressing herself freely and loving herself then it doesn’t really matter what she wears…as long as she’s loving herself on the inside and I believe she’s expressing herself genuinely the way she dresses. I understand where you are coming from though…
We have to remember that Solange is still relatively young. I know that I for one do not dress at all like what I did when I was her age, when she first came out on her own.
It’s harsh to judge someone who grows up in the public eye. I think the Hollywood thing was her disingenuous period and now she is out of Beyonce’s shadow. She’s lost the fans that liked that video/pop/clone girl look and gained new ones. To be honest besides djing, I don’t know what she does. If she was really using the reinvention to raise her career profile, I’m sure she’d be doing more with it than just going to parties and quietly djing at events.
She’s always dressed a little different… But her with the weave etc. just didnt seem like the “real” her to me. This is more authentic. It seemed like her managers / stylists were trying to FORCE her to be a Beyonce clone. I am glad she rejected that and has grown into her own person.
Also, she is actually the more CREATIVE sister. A lot of people dont know that she is the creative energy behind Beyonce’s tours, writes a lot of her songs, does back up for her a lot and I’m sure plenty of other things.
I like her style she would rather dj or write a song, or play with her soul band then be on stage singing “who run the world, girls.” (That song is TRASH to me by the way)…
Overall, she is FINALLY doing her instead of standing in Beyonce’s light. So you have to respect that.
I think she has always had an alternative style but you notice it more now her hair is also not mainstream. If you think about it if she had a long straight weave with the same outfit would she look that different from other mainstream celebs? not really
This could be true, but to argue another side of the case…..she is not the only person who was a “permie” or as you put it “mainstream” once upon a time. Just 5 years ago, I straightened my hair (perm heat etc.) for the last time. I don’t know about anyone else’s transition or post “BC” experience, but mine was not such that I felt that I wanted to join a hippie cult or something. For whatever reasons they choose, I am happy for any of us who choose to embrace natural hair. I remember when Whoopi was the only one in Hollywood. I don’t place myself on some sort of “Natural Hair Board of Acceptance” to decide whether someone deserves to be accepted as a natural or an enforcer of Generally Accepted Natural Practices. It’s almost like some naturals feel like others can’t go natural without checking with them first. Geez!
Why are we arguing about what might or what might not be a stranger’s (Solange’s) authentic self? None of us really know. And to suggest otherwise is really just speculative. I think she looks fabulous, but not because her current look brings her closer to what I might believe is her “true self.” It just looks cool and that’s enough for me.
Also, as likewaterforchocolate mentioned, those among us who doubt the authenticity of Solange’s shift to natural hair, should not complain when we are similarly judged. By your own logic, mediumbrowngirl, unless a woman has been natural for her entire life, her motives for giving up relaxers can be called into question.
You cannot really pull that big bun farther on the back of your head. B/c it is sooooo heavy it would probably rip you edges out. Thats why you always see girls with box braids with pony tails on the top closer to their edges than pulled back…

I don’t understand why so many people hate on Solange’s style. She seems so quirky and weird and interesting. I’d love to just chill with her.
That being said, her hair looks AWESOME!
“I would wear my hair like this,I think it looks really cute.”
She looks hot. There are DOs Higher than that. It’s Perfect, the Romper and Shoes are DEFINITELY TO DIE FOR!!!! She looks Hot!
“I agree with you 100%.”
She looks cool. I have done that updo so many times over the years and seen others rocking it. She would fit in fine in BK 🙂
P.S. I swear the Patra braids are not heavy. If they are maybe you are using too much hair??
Thank you for your time and wonderful read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff your upcoming blog posts…
I would so rock this look w/ a pair of cute earrings. Kind of reminds me of singer Ledesi but with bigger hair.
I DONT KNOW WHAT ALL THE JUDGEMENTAL COMMENTS ARE ABOUT, BUT HER STYLE IS FRESH AND LOVE THE BRAIDS. The style suits her and so what she was mainstream before, life is about evolving and change!!!

Am I the only person who sees that as being really heavy? It’s cute but it looks like it hurts!
I love it…I had some yarn braids and it inspired me to try the look….HOT!!!
Hot.
HOT!! I wear my hair this way all the time
Love It!!!
Hot! I love it… 🙂
I love it! its no different than that Janae Monet girl

i like her style. I wouldn’t do the hair so big, but a more subdued variation of it.
I have this style and i looooove it!

cute!!
adorable!
I think it is cute for her but I wouldn’t personally rock it, I like my hair either on top or the back of my head. But the whole outfit is HOT
I don’t like it. sorry.
I think the overall look hair, clothing, and accessories is on point. Get it girl!
HAWT!!! Wish my locs were that long!!
HAWWWT, and that suit is , yeah…where it’s at!
Love it, she is always doing it her own way! If you are in Atlanta, you can find those shoes at Goodie Two Shoes!!!
i like it…looks nice
I wish I could pull off the whole romper look. I think some women wear it well (Solange being one of them), so it looks good in the picture. I love the color! It complements her skin tone so well.
I saw a lady at the supermarket last week and she had on a romper with one full butt cheek hanging out o.O
#romperfail
LOL!
Hair – cute…on her. She got a Janelle Monae vibe going.
Romper – Mama like! Mama want!
Bag – Cute!
Shoes – uh, no.
I love it – I rocked my big braids like this when I had them, but I didn’t keep them for long – waaaaay too heavy for me 🙂
It kind of looks like, if she is not careful that hair is going to tip her forward.

I need that romper!!
It looks great on her and I love her style. Those braids look so heavy, though! I think it’s a little too much hair but solo rocks it well.
Love it! I actually have been considering trying this if I ever decide to get some extensions.
Solange is in a league all on her own. I love her style and her over all look(shoes and the bag are haute!!!) Now me on the other hand, I could not rock this look if my life depended on it…lol

Here’s a tutorial on how to pull off the style while minimising the stress on your hairline:

Yesssss! Thanks so much!
Very nice! Love the whole look!
too cute!
Hot, I adore it!
I love her braids but that style would not match my face.
I do want that romper! 😀
hotttt! she always looks hot though, lol. yep, lovin the whole outfit from head to toe! i would totally rock this whole look 🙂

Ha! Very true, re: the hair piling. It’s quite prevalent in the DMV, and it always looks sloppy to me.
LOVEZZZZ!
WERK SOLO!!
Hotttttttttttttttttttttt I love it.

hater, hater
My mantra has always been, the bigger the hair the better. And I want her romper.
I think it looks great, the volume is nicely dramatic
I like it! It suits her!
+1 I love the outfit as well.
