Last night was the taping of the annual “Black Girls Rock!” awards show, which honors and empowers black women who are making waves. The event was attended by numerous black female celebrities, including Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Shonda Rhimes, to name a few. The Black Girls Rock! awards show will officially air on BET next Tuesday, April 5. In the mean time, here are some of the gorgeous stars who were slaying on the red carpet last night!
Rihanna was all legs in a fur coat, oversized men’s shirt, and white shorts.

Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough… This is an important moment in my career to be celebrated because I’m black… Role model is not the title they like to give me, which is why tonight, it is so important. I know I am inspiring girls to be themselves and that’s half the battle. Hopefully one day I’ll be raising my own little black girl who rocks. – Rihanna
Kelly and Danai were killing it in all white and cleavage.

Eva slayed in a deep plunge jumpsuit with a long pink overcoat.

Teyonah, our favorite natural-haired celebrity, wore all gold and a beautiful updo.

Tracee wore a Leah De Gloria white fringe dress for the red carpet.

This show is of utmost importance in today’s times as it highlights positive reinforcement and representation for young black women. I am looking forward to once again being a part of such a wonderful night celebrating the beauty, talents, and accomplishments of black women – it will be a show to remember! – Tracee Ellis Ross
Amandla Stenberg rocked an edgy orange Moschino suit.

Over the last 10 years, ‘Black Girls Rock!’ has reaffirmed the spectrum of brilliance that Black women possess and has helped forge a cultural paradigm shift regarding the ways that Black women and girls are depicted in media. I am proud that ‘Black Girls Rock!’ is at the forefront of a new women’s empowerment movement inspiring women of color to define ourselves, to own our magic, to share our truth, to elevate our own narratives, to celebrate our brilliance and resilience, and to love ourselves fiercely. – DJ Beverly Bond, Founder of Black Girls Rock!
Monica was all legs in a high slit, green Balmain skirt.

Skai Jackson revived color blocking with a yellow blouse, orange slacks, and blue pumps.

Corinne Bailey Rae wore a bold multi-textured cocktail dress.

Tatyana was glowing in a blue gown that showed off her baby bump.

Naturi was stunning in a yellow one-shoulder dress with a futuristic sleeve.

Jazmine Sullivan was curvy and all legs in a form-fitting black gown with a sheer bottom.

The beautiful and ageless Cicely Tyson wore a vibrantly-colored B. Michael America dress.

Shonda Rhimes and her daughter matched in black cardigans and cocktail dresses with lace on the bodice.

[I brought my daughter to the event] to sit in a room with you and feel the energy that’s here. Because she and you are the ones who count, the ones who matter. It’s the minute someone starts giving you awards, you are more history than future. But your slates are blank, your paths are clear and your stories are whatever you decide they’re going to be. – Shonda Rhimes
