Just a couple of days ago we posted pictures of Rihanna looking amazing and having a grand time in her homeland of Barbados for Crop Over. But apparently, per the oppressive American beauty standard, having a flat tummy, incredible breasts and sumptuous thighs is problematic.

Yes, we all saw the same photos. We’re just not sure how these folks thought her fit body shape was anything along the lines of “fat,” and why “fat” is being used as an insult in the first place. And yes, we saw and are side eyeing the fact that many derogatory tweets (including the ones posted above) are from black folks.
It’s truly unfortunate because expectations of what women should look like are scrutinized far more than men. Remember the “dad bod” trend? It was a push to accept men with fluffier, fuller figures; however there was no driving force behind the push for “mom bod” acceptance. Instead, plastic surgery treatments such as the “Mommy Makeover” are thrust down the consciousness of women everywhere.
What does it say about a society that is calling this “fat”?
In America women’s bodies — particularly black women’s bodies — are picked apart for being too curvy, skinny, muscular or thick. It’s a rigged system designed to exclude the majority of women and keep them in a constant state of paranoia. Rihanna is not fat. Rihanna is a #carefreeblackgirl doing her thing. Let her do her and America, don’t come for Rihanna unless she sends for you.
Ladies, what are your thoughts on this?

Well said that woman! ;-))
Please add: taking the scales from the eyes of black men duped everywhere by the media hype/lies, too to your prayer list.
think it’s a Brit/UK thing more than US.
I hope not!
without a doubt – they’ve been brain (white) washed.
I know! He wishes!
The weird thing is, she totally fits— hell, *aces*— American beauty standards??!?! I am so confused.
I’m like, legitimately upset.
When it comes to deeply embedded antiblackness it’s pretty hard to shock me at this point, but… seriously with this right now? The woman is a 10 in every possible way. Except skin tone. Yes. I realize that. Like, I realize how racist this culture is, but… *seriously*?? LOOK AT HER. She’s like something you only read about!! Blackness can negate even THAT? For real??
Damn. Just… wow. It’s even more racist than even I thought.
:'(
When I first saw Rihanna, she looked like what she was, a girl. Now she looks like exactly what she is, a woman. “With all the right curves in all the right places “.
And what is wrong with plus size? As someone said to me the other day, perhaps they’re normal and the others are actually minus size!
Rihanna lokks Great and don’t care what people are saying and she decided to keep the weight on!!!Rihanna said she is NOT Unhealthy
Since when did internet chitter chatter become a representation for an entire society’s standards? This article seems very petty to me– having to reference what some incognito people on the internet think in order to make a point. Rihanna sure as hell doesn’t seem to care. Why should we?
Nah it’s even worse these people need Jesus to help them see reality! Even my blind self without glasses can clearly she isn’t fat. Smh
Hallelujah!
I am not a fan of Rihanna, but she looks fine and fem to me. Maybe some people are more used to seeing her with more muscle tone, looking more cut, six pack etc!!! I do not see how she looks fat at all.
She looks pretty healthy! I’ve been trying to gain some weight to get to that size
are you kidding me? Rihanna had me questioning my sexual orientation in these pics, in what universe is this fat? WTF?
Oh wow, it just dawned on me that the ‘men’ saying hateful things about her might actually want to BE her. Gotta’ remember to keep that in mind.
She is perfection…
She has NOTHING to worry about.
Ri Ri has everything natural, that other races are going and pay millions of dollars for. The same Americans that saying her butt is fat, how much of you go shopping for the tightness jeans and dress with the expectation that your butt wont look too flat in it. News Flash !! we African women have fabulous BOOTIES which the guys love. How many men love to walk the streets with their hand sitting comfortably on their wifey butt? We don’t have to return to the surgeon table every couple years to get deflated silicone removed. Ri Ri you have natural beauty, be a proud African Bajan.
She aint fat at all, but it kills me when people use the “shame” card.
“American beauty standards”? Let’s be real, here. Only one segment of America would call this “fat”.
Naw, fit and healthy are fairly interchangeable here, depending on where you are, not to mention the fact that a lot of Black Americans were saying that RiRi looked fat. The concept of waifish features being attractive started with White people, but is now perpetuated in a lot of non-White communities. However, I will say that Southerners in the US (White or Black) don’t seem to subscribe to that beauty ideal, at least not as much.
Yes I understand the general meaning of fit but that’ s not what i’m talking about. If I heard one of my own call someone fit it had little if anything to do with your health it just meant that that person deems you attractive. That’s just the way we flipped the word.
Yup.
There were way more than this 6, and from non-black Twitter users also. https://twitter.com/search?q=rihanna%20fat&src=typd
Ummm, if she’s fat then I must be a baby hippo! This is an age of photoshopped everything, artificial beauty (via plastic surgery), skinny = healthy, on and on. If it’s fake, it’s more acceptable to the mainstream (sheep) than reality. I am afraid that people, male and female, have no idea what a healthy mid to late twenty year old WOMAN looks like. Kudos to her, she looks beautiful and healthy and vibrant.
What does it say about this website that you are even entertaining a few ignorant twitter trolls? Why even post it? Why even talk about it? Some things are ok to ignore. There was already a post about how amazing she looked at carnival. Why not leave it at that? How do you even know the people posting these negative remarks are in reality black people? Any one can be anyone on the internet!
AGREED Yolanda!
Why give twitter trolls life?
These are the same
people who’ll be 300lbs behind a computer screen and call someone fat!
They’ll be Black and post Nazi propaganda on kitten videos on YouTube.
They’re only purpose is to get views and stir the pot!
Why is
BGLH trolling for clicks?! You already have sensational hair content!
This has nothing to do with fat shaming in the U.S. – try living in
Europe, Asia or South America and being more than 100lbs – this has to
do with a rabidly endless cycle of fake news!
Oh yes…You said it!
Wow wow wow I’m digested by people’s comments. Another reminder that black women must know their own beauty and self-work b/c this culture doesn’t see it
I really don’t see where she’s fat. I mean I guess she probably gained a little bit of weight, but she isn’t fat. That person who said she had a beer belly must have some terrible eyesight. I would love for my body to look like Rih Rih’s 🙂
If this is fat I dread to think what I am. #Societyneedsitseyeschecked.
She look good wtf are they talking about?
I AM SOOO DAMN SICK AND DONE WITH EUROPEAN COLONIZED SLAVE MINDED FOLKS…comparing and picking apart the female body and image of a person from African decent! STOP THE JEALOUS BS!!!
This is exactly what we’ve been talking about…SHAME BLACK WOMANS BIG LIPS AND HAIR, but then later our body parts become A TREND when the European media says so. SO BRAINWASHED AND IGNORANT! ??????
Not once ounce of fat on her where it shouldn’t be.
I’m trying to find the so called “fat” she got because I’m coming up short. Rih has an amazing body and she’s always had one. Idk why ppl are so set on finding something negative to say even when there’s barely anything there smh. I’m almost certain their bodies are no where near as nice as Rih’s let alone that imaginary beauty standard they’re trying to hold up here.
Rihanna isn’t fat or thin she’s a healthy size, people are over looking she’s like 5’8 and can’t weight less than 120 without looking sickly. Let’s look at these people and see if they can compare.
Just people being bitter. If that is fat, I want to be fat.
It is, indeed very sad that we’ve been socialize to think that not being a size 00 is fat. I personally struggled for years with self scceptance and I’m 5’8 and 137lb. I still consider myself overweight. But I’ve also come to acknowledge that being fitter is a personal goal and not a beauty standard that everybody should fit into. Body shaming in the black community is an irony in itself, because a vast majority of black women are blessed with incredibly curvy bodies.
Matter at hand: Rihanna. HAHAHA. “Fat?” Lol. She does look a lot thicker than when she went through that ‘stage’. But what’s not to love?
Those people calling her fat can’t be serious. They need to go to an eye Dr. stat. Fat & Rihanna in those pics are not even in the same universe. SMH…
Then Lord please make me fat like Rihanna!
And when I saw her all I could do was shake my head at how ridiculously gorgeous her body appeared. Earlier today I prayed to God specifically for African American women that we be delivered from the oppressor. But I also thanked God for us because against all odds we have risen. Rihanna can go head and quote Maya, “still I rise”!!!
The problem is caring about what random people on Twitter or social media are saying; most likely just for RT’s and likes. Six Tweets from people who seem to only say trash anyway isn’t a reflection of society.
Lord, what I would give to be fat like that lol! She looks amazing – haters gon’ hate.
I never comment … But people need to stop. Shes perfect. Come on….
She looks like she put on one or two pounds max. I must be blind, cause that’s the furthest thing from “fat”.
So society again and again tells us we are unattractive and yet covets our features like our butts and lips, goes for tans (sun or spray) and ample thighs without a gap…Wow!
I’ve been noticing that the definition of “fit” seems to be synonymous with “skinny” lately. Couple that with a bunch of people who grew up during the 90s/00s when that fairy/waif look was all the rage, and bingo, we have massive body image delusions.
I don’t think ‘fit’ is as commonly used by black people born in the States as it is used amongst those of Caribbean heritage, but it had nothing to do with skinny. It generally meant that someone was attractive and perhaps the person deemed attractive just happens to have descent body.Everyone has their own idea of beauty but typically White Men/society have always promoted the washboard back or boyish figures. The fashion industry is awash with these types. I think these people making the comments about Rhianna do not represent what black men see as fit or beautiful.
Bet those same people are the ones saying “YASSSSSS” to Kylie, Khloe, and pre-pregnant Kim. Like really? -___-
If that’s “fat”, then I want to be fat.
Lolol okay. Okay. But then again even if she was “fat”, which is not even the case plus when is being heavy bad, she’d have enough money to fix it. Unlike the twitter folk. Let’s be real, she got more money then all of us put together. Plus she got a whole army of people supporting her. Mannnnn I would not mess with fans of celebrities. They quick to send death threats Lmfao. But I think its funny that the same people calling her fat, be worshipping these “thick” women. Likeeeee titties & butt is heavy, plus when the titties & the booty is real its gonna come with a lil tummy. So grow up. Also, uhhh do one of these guys tweeting that look a lil heavy to y’all??? Lol self hatred at its finest.
Exactly! Can you see the look on the guy’s face in the last picture? He is drooling.
Fat where? * scrolls up to look at pics again* I said where? These folks need prescription glasses ?
I don’t expect much from a population of idiots who continue to allow Vogue magazine and music videos to shape their ideas of beauty. Those people sound like a bunch of brainwashed, adolescent clowns, who run their mouths on social media like a bunch of middle school girls.
Most mature, sane adults don’t find women with bodies like pre-pubescent boys attractive. They want curves to admire and to hold on to. But, these skinny-jean wearing fools, who are more feminine than most women with their spa appointments, man-purses, and make-up…I don’t know what to make of them.
Skinny, thick, or otherwise, Rihanna is absolute perfection.
Rihanna doesn’t look “fat” or overweight to me. She looks great. Plus, there is nothing wrong with looking “fat” anyways as long as you’re healthy.
This people are just malicious. Her body IS NOT FAT at all. But women were always easy targets for the bitter folks, who love to insult people.
People are crazy! Argh.
Never will be ok.
Too fat. Too thin. Too nappy. Too light. Too dark. Come on, seriously? Her body is almost perfect. Almost because don’t exist a perfect body. So…stop!
These people are a fool mess. Rihanna looks better than more half of the American population and that’s not being rude, just honest. If Rihanna is fat then I definitely want to be fat.
Are we all looking at the same pictures? In the end, it’s s subjective. I think she looks great and, also in really good shape. Others might not. But fat??? Did she even gain an ounce? I see a flat stomach. I am not even a really huge Rihanna fan. But, I always thought her body was nice.
I am sorry… how is Rihanna fat? I am confused. If that how fat looks sign me up! Beer belly? What belly? that’s a stomach! Their is no fat there. People are so dumb and black people especially should know better.
If this is fat, MAKE ME HUGE, BAE BAE!!!!
