Introduce yourself!
L: My name is Quisha Livingston, and I’m from Fort Worth, Texas.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
L: My mother had been pressuring me to go natural for years, but after watching the coke scene in the movie “Good Hair” I knew it was time to make that transition. I’ve been natural for three years and four months.
How would you describe your texture?
L: My hair texture is predominantly 3c/4a. It is very thick and coarse. I have to use more product in the front of my hair than anywhere else.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
L: My styling regimen over the course of the month has been very easy because of my insane workouts (Insanity). I’ve been wearing my hair in a wash n go or rocking a bun. The products that I use are Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Curling Souffle, and Eco Styler Argan Oil Gel.
What does wash day look like for you?
L: Wash days are not my favorite. After I get over the fact that I am going to be in the shower for 45 minutes, I part my hair in four sections, wash each section at a time with Tresemme Naturals Shampoo then use Tresemme Naturals Conditioner.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
L: My favorite go to hair styles are either a high bun, or I’ll just let my hair go free and wrap a scarf around it.
How do you combat shrinkage?
L: To be honest shrinkage doesn’t bother me, but I do like my braid outs and twist outs stretched so I do them on a blow out.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
L: My problem area is my scalp. During the winter time I have to use more oils than I do any other season.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
L: Two do’s for my hair texture are using a deep conditioner with protein and it is a must to keep my ends trimmed.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
L: The only don’t I have is to never neglect your hair. Other than that I do as I please. 🙂
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

Your hair is very beautiful. But sometimes looking at these pics of girls with the prettier and longer hair is kind of depressing for me.You are VERY looky that you are not completely african descent and mixed with something but unfortunately for me that is not the case. I hate my short, ugly 4C hair that is sooooo difficult to grow. you less ”textured” hair people will never understand the difficulties of 4c hair. That is why people with textured hair like this are more willing to post pics of themselves as they have the nicer/ longer hair. I really wish i was mixed then i would be more beautiful and have nicer hair. I feel that my way too african appearance overshadows my nice personality because truthfully i do have a wonderful personality but guys won’t date me because ime not good enough. I am just way too dark, not nice hair 🙁
Don’t EVER feel this way! Being mixed has nothing to do w beauty! Dark skin is beautiful! Be proud! Media and ignorance from society is making you feel this way! No one can stop you if you have knowledge of self! Learn about who you are and find yourself. Your issue is larger than hair! Love thyself! Took me a long time to know this!
It really is an absolute torture feeling like this. It is seriously causing me to become depressed and dislike myself even more. I have always been told how ugly i was because of the colour of my skin and my hair. In high school i was threathened by my entire class to get a perm or they will continue to torture me. Someone even told me that they would bring a gun to shoot me if i didnt do it. Now in my early twenties and despite being educated i am still feeling some negative adverse effects from the whole ordeal. I honestly do think i have bad genes or else a whole group of people wouldnt have continued to do this to me for YEARS. Funny i should mention there was one other girl who was also natural but she was light skin/mixed race and had the more ”accepted” hair and no one said anything about her hair except praising it. My hair is natural now but its having a hard time growing to the lenght i want. when i do mini twists they look like spider legs. the hair is short , cant style it into nice styles and it just doesnt look as beautiful. I do feel that if i was mixed with at least a bit of something else besides african i woulndt have to deal with this. I am so worried that no one would want to be with me because i am not as beautiful and my hair is not pretty when they can get a great looking girl mixed with something else 🙁 sighsss…
They only made you feel that way bc they knew it bothered you! Sometimes in life, you have to let the feelings go of caring or listening to ignorance. If this was a group of ppl from other race doing this, YOU REALLY SHOULDN’T CARE! They really were jealous and that’s why they tried/did intimidate you. You have to let the past go. I have always been made fun of. I’m in my late 20’s and still trying to work through it. You have find something within yourself, to bring you up! You can’t accept validation from others. As far as relationships go, if a man feels that way about you (like you mentioned earlier), then he’s not a man and he’s not the man for you. Everyone isn’t meant to be with. If you don’t feel beautiful, then no one else will see how beautiful you are. Just have confidence and it will shine through. Have you ever been interested in a guy, though not attractive on the outside, but it was still something about him? It’s confidence! Beauty is not what you see in the media everyday. That is a facade. You can not compare yourself to someone who doesn’t look like the very pic that they took! (Or have had surgery!)
You really need to spend more time looking at some of the hair pics on You Tube. There are plenty of pics of ladies with 4c hair and they are doing marvelous things with their thick hair. And you do need to realize that we all have our own look and hair type which means we are all beautiful in our own individual ways. And really, just because someone has a lighter skin tone does not mean they are MIXED. And so what if they are-that doesn’t automatically mean someone is beautiful. African Americans come in all shapes/sizes/hair types/colors. That is what makes us so beautiful and amazing. And that is why other ethnicities think we are so ‘exotic’ and they are not-so-secretly amazed by us. You really do need to dig deep, do some research, look in the mirror, and learn to love yourself for what you are and stop wishing away your life. PLEASE, find at least one thing about yourself that you are proud of and then keep going from there. You are really short-changing yourself.
OMG!!! Beautiful hair. I so wish my was this texture and length.!!!

Interesting she said her mom was pressuring her to go natural–that’s not something you hear very often.
My mom would occasionally tell me that I should consider going natural. When I actually did, she was thrilled.
Good lawd her hair looks GORGEOUS!!
OMG your hair is so beautiful TO ME! ( I had to put emphasis on the “TO ME” bc your know how ppl are in BGLH. In my eyes, your hair is exactly what I want my hair to be like! Congrats on the transition! I went natural due to the movie “Good Hair” also, after I seem the pop cans melt! (I’m from Chicago, so it’s pop, not soda.)
