[Pics] Black Women are Sharing Their Big Lip Pics on Instagram and It's Glorious

This past week we informed you of the racist comments sparked by MAC Cosmetics’ of a black model’s lips on Instagram.
Now black women online are uniting with the #PrettyLipsPeriod tag to celebrate the beauty of black features on black women. The social media campaign is the brainchild of Dr. Yaba Blay and Thembisa Mshaka.

Black women were encouraged to take a selfie of their lips with the hashtag #PrettyLipsPeriod and upload it to either Instagram or Twitter. It wasn’t long after that many joined in #PrettyLipsPeriod to lend their support.

  1. Nice pair off full lips on a women is always a welcoming sight in my opinion. The only people who would feel otherwise, are folks with lips so thin, it looks like they don’t have lips at all.

  2. Some of y’all are out here with lips lookin’ like open wounds and think you can call ours ugly?? Go back to overlining your plastic injected lips and miss me with that.

  3. I don’t think the hashtag should be pretty lips period.

I think it should include the word “black” in the hashtag. It’s not a crime to celebrate the beautiful features black women have, so long as those features are on white women. They are an insecure race of narcissists…

It’s only a crime to celebrate the beauty of a feature, if that feature is on black females, because insecure whites do not like competition. They get jealous of your features, and then mimic it to keep themselves in the spot light for traits that aren’t even natural to them on average. They love praise, and hate to see others praised… If someone else is being praised for something, whites will counterfeit it, then push that person to the back of the stage so that whites don’t become irrelevant. This attention seeking behavior is literally their culture.

The hashtag should not be called pretty lips period. I can predict already that white women will hop on board using the hashtag for themselves to remain relevant. (Please look up 36 traits of a narcissist). Make the hashtag exclusive to black women only to celebrate black features on black women. Don’t leave room for the attention whores to come in and try to include themselves, to invalidate the pont hashtag.

If you want to be celebrated, you need to make it impossible for whites to include themselves. There’s already white women who claim they are apart of the natural hair movement.

#Prettyblackfeatures should have been the hashtag

  4. Well I’m a dark skin black woman and I don’t have big lips but I’ll post a picture anyway. I do have nice full medium sized lips.

  5. I am so glad that black women are embracing what makes them beautiful despite being shunned for what others have downgraded them for. Stay up, my sisters!

    1. Yes, that’s true. But many black women who do face rejection for them. Your lips are beautiful no matter what!

  6. Love it! If my lips weren’t so wrinkled I’d post a pic myself. (Word to the wise young’un: Always use lip balm with SUNSCREEN. You’re welcome.)

Also, yeah: This is a huge case of #theyhateuscausetheyain’tus…

    1. I think the post is a very healthy and perfect response. It’s nice to take time to simply reflect on why you love being you when someone has attempted to tear you down. It’s about us, not anyone else. We get to celebrate the beauty of our sensuously full lips with gorgeous lip selfies, which is a great pleasure, no matter the original circumstances. 🙂 Now we’re just having fun making these and looking, so we win.

BTW, the gold lips are my favorite. Is there a tutorial??

  7. posted mine as well as my best friend! I love my lips and black lips/full lips period. I compliment women often on the shape of their lips/mouth bc its such a sensual and important feature. often the first place we look. men as well. when the lips look goodt! haha I love that the response to negativity is immense positivity!

  8. The perfect clapback to the same idiots making those derogatory comments earlier! I bet they’re the ones getting those ‘Kylie Lip Kits’ or collagen lip injections!

  9. Look at my beautiful sisters with their big natural sexy lips ..Those ugly ass neanderthal cave beast wish they had…It was always envy and jealousy.
