  1. these are so AWESOME!! great work. if only little black girls..and boys could see more cartoon characters that resemble them. it would be amazing..sure wish I did when I was young.

  2. Boy, this really drives home how lacking in diversity so many of my favorite cartoons are. I found myself wishing that these were how certain characters had actually been drawn.
for shame Disney, CN, and Nick. Disney especially, who seem to know a littlebetter when it comes to live action on Disney Channel and XD.

Brilliant idea and I wanna see more.
All of the artists are brilliant.

  3. I don’t watch any of these shows besides the Simpsons but it was fun to look at the similarities

  4. Amazing! Would love a cartoon geared towards children centered around black characters where at least 90% of the characters are black.

  5. Why does the color of your skin have anything to do with being an artist. Seems racially segregated here but whatever… Fantastic creativity and talent is on display.

    1. “The concept is to recreate a self-portrait in popular cartoon styles.” Do you not know how to read or do you just automatically dislike things that black girls are doing?

    2. If you appreciate artistry you would see through the color. Seem racially segregated to even mention it.

    3. Oh, shut up already. If the characters & artists were all white, you’d think it was absolutely “normal.” So you’re showing your own racism–you ain’t slick! Now, buh-bye!

    4. Freethought is a troll trying to devalue the empowerment of black people, who have been degraded for centuries. Black people are beautiful too. My favorite is the Daria version.

    5. Because white characters in an all-white cast is seen as the norm, and with lots of variation in character archtypes, while characters of other races, particularly black, are either non-existent, or usually only put in to be a stereotypical one-dimensional “token” with little to no depth or character development. That’s why.

  6. this was sooo cute! The feelings of nostalgia was limitless! Thanks for this article. I really wish I could draw

  7. I was waiting for you guys to say something about this! This girl has so much talent! I follow her on IG and she’s very creative
