Blacks in America are still feeling the well-documented effects of slavery, Jim Crow and racist housing, education and banking policies. And yet, in American classrooms across the country, educators continue to instruct black children to minimize or ignore slavery altogether. One horrifying school assignment has gone a step further — encouraging black students to rationalize slavery.
A Princeton University student who goes by @DestinyAriel on Twitter posted a disturbing screenshot of homework assigned to a 9 year old student in her after school program.
The assignment, titled “In Your Opinion-Slavery in the South” asks;
“By the mid 1700’s, slavery was legal in every colony. If slavery was LEGAL back then, can you blame plantation owners for having slaves? Wasn’t it just “the way things were?”
In other words, if you were a plantation owner who didn’t have slaves, and your neighbor had slaves and was making tons of money off of his crops, wouldn’t you purhcase slaves as well?”

The assignment soon went viral with some even wondering if it was a hoax. Unfortunately it was not. It was assigned by Johnson Park Elementary School in Princeton New Jersey and parents soon began calling to demand answers.

Despite African Americans’ revolutionary journey from slaves to citizens, and all they have done to build the country, their history is still being taught in an incomplete, incorrect and non-affirming fashion. It’s a damn shame, and more critical than ever that black youth are exposed to their true history — including the unequivocal truth that slavery was an evil institution employed by a sick society in which extreme violence against blacks was state-sanctioned and money was valued over human rights.

This is why Im very leary of white women teaching black children. I hear of shit like this too often. Black people we really need to have our own schools and educate our own kids. This integration stuff is not worth our children being damaged and brainwashed to hate themselves and other black people.
On one hand… WOW. Horribly worded. On the other hand, let’s apply this to other issues, and see what results we get. Homosexuality? Abortion? Gun Control? Fornication? Illegal Immigration? Stealing from the convenience store?
#ThinkAboutIt.
Still, wouldn’t let my child-under-10 do this kind of problem.

Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s “ok” or right….sometimes the laws are broken or sick and need fixing.
In the 1930s and 40s, it was legal for Germans to terrorize the Jews as such, can you blame the Germans who did just that? In other words, if you were a German soldier who watched as other German soldiers occupied the mansions and took over the businesses of the Jews forced out of their homes, wouldn’t you do the same?
I doubt anyone would ask that question!
Yes some of the worst things in history such as slavery, what happened to the Jews were legal and thats how they do it. First they legalise the evil shit so that no one can say anything and then go one about it. Yes you can the fuck blame them! It shouldn’t matter if it’s legal or not, if it’s utterly evil then you should interfere!!
IDK, I see this assignment as a call to dispute slavery in a “just because everyone’s doing it, doesn’t make it right” type of way. It’s easy to take this out of context when all you are looking at is an assignment. What was the classroom discussion prompting this assignment? What are the kids assigned to read? The kids may even be learning about how to debate and this may be a call to oppose an opinion. Articles like this, designed to incite us, only perpetuate the angry black person narrative without first having a dialogue to consider the context. That said, this may very well be highly inappropriate, but we must first ask the important questions without jumping to conclusions automatically taking things negatively. Anything other that that is just irresponsible.
Pretty sure if it were a argument practice then couldn;t the teacher pick a different example. There is no excuse whatsoever for this. And maybe there is a reason that black people are angry. Don’t give a fuck about what they think and no black person should.
You sound like a racial gas lighter. White Supremacy is well documented and in writing to silence Black girls and women. I never see your type on the White sites tell them not to be racist, just on here telling us how to feel and act. Even you grouping Blacks as monolith and stereotyping with don’t be angry or negative. Don’t be a jerk face.
This is disgusting. Utterly disgusting and just plain sad. If this was given to me or my kid for homework, I just don;t know what I would do. The teacher should be fired. What a bitch. Can’t believe there’s people that think like this. I’m… just… In utter shock. Shame on you Amerikkka. Once again, you prove that you’re one of the most racist country in the world.
You would be amazed at how some “wind head” teachers try to impose their beliefs on these innocent children. It is a for sure way of continuing the stupidity they allow to plague their thoughts. We have to teach our children so they won’t be some “wrong” teacher’s push over.
They want to cushion the truth and hide facts then make us think it’s all in our head?! We were shipped like cargo from Africa 10% of us, made into slaves, treated like an animal or property, and told we are less than human, but they want us for sexual pleasures only to be disregard, disrespected, and disassociated with? We are still feeling the effects of slavery today!
As a teacher we are expected to have shared beliefs but it is hard when you have that one dunce in the building.
