These days Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Porsha Williams is busy promoting her new weave line, but she wants folks to know that beneath it all she has a healthy head of hair.

She has such nice, thick, and healthy hair, I don’t understand why she doesn’t let it air out for a few months and wear it just like that. I mean she can do plenty of styles with the amount that she has no weave needed.
If black women weren’t so afraid of SHORT hair, I’ll bet they would love the texture and thickness of their natural hair. The joke is that it doesn’t stay short. When it’s healthy it will actually GROW continuously, without breaking. So all that anxiety over length goes away within a year. What you have after that is amazing. At 4 years natural, mine is in the middle of my back – when I cut off the ends it was only about 3 inches long after transitioning. My whole life as a relaxed gal (40+ years) it never made it past my shoulders. I’ll never go back to relaxing – it’s just unhealthy and, at least for me, straight thin hair made me look a lot older.
She has nice hair and I totally understand rocking wigs and weaves because its convenient but its good to give your hair a breather every now and then. Back in the day, I wore weaves to add thickness to my long, but very fine hair, but as time went on, weaves were too heavy to be camouflaged by thinning hair so I got the clippers and shaved it to a Caesar…14 years and counting.
If you have it why not flaunt it? I understand weave is a protective style, but I feel as if it starts to not become one once your hair is past armpit length. Weaves also seem to thin hair. She’s not that attractive to start out with, even with make up, at least she can have some thick beautiful hair, but nah,
So why not rock your real hair? I don’t get it.
Time, work, money on products, personal style, preference, thickness, maintenance, stubborness (of the hair type). I have past shoulder length thick (I don’t know the type – 4c maybe) hair. It’s stubborn, difficult, has a life of its own and resistant to heat, gels, creams, flat irons, hot combs, etc. I won’t ever put a relaxer in it again. Each year I attempt natural styes, only to see myself spending tons on product and walking in an hour and a half later to work (or some other function I’m going to) in order to get it to do something… only to have it curl (#noshame nap) up by the time I get there.
I love my hair and I truly desire to hve the ability and patience a lot of the natural hair vloggers have, but I just don’t. Sometimes it’s just easier to braid it up, oil it, toss on a weave or a wig for $60 (if you buy smart and/or do it yourself) that just lays flat and conveninent and let your own natural hair be for four-to-six weeks.
And, some of us have just gotten used to seeing ourselves with a protective style we’re not ready to walk away from.
I’ve been watching some episodes, thanks to my mom. Those women are slightly unhinged. I like it though. Love the hair pic tho. 🙂

I see no difference in the so called celebrities who wear weaves day in & out only to make the big reveal on IG and the many natural women who are obsessed with “protective styling” to grow their hair to longer lengths. I’ve never worn weave but as my once glorious, thick head of hair starts to thin due to age & use of necessary meds, I am really interested in some clip ins that look like my hair to give me added thickness. Not everyone has to be militant about wearing natural hair.

While Kenya Moore and Phaedra Parks both have beautiful hair both of these women also wear weaves and pieces majority of the time.
I have never worn weave but I’ve had people ask me what kind of hair I have in. Mine. that’s what kind. I think it’s rude to assume a black woman’s long thick hair is fake.

I’m not even going to lie, If I had the money, I’d rock a long beautiful weave too! Only difference, I wouldn’t wear the weave ALL THE TIME, I would always love my real hair more, and I’d be taking IG selfies of my weave and not my real hair. LOL. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with switching it up with a weave – just as long as you feel beautiful and sexy with your natural hair too.

There is nothing wrong with putting your hair up and wearing I weave. btw I have seen Porsha with her natural hair straightened and it is beautiful. Some of us tend to like it that way. I say live and let live.

Porsha is beautiful to me! I always admired her beauty! Ever since the season she came on RHOA I couldn’t take my eyes of her (and Kenya)! lately it seems to me that she’s getting a bit Cocky? idk Maybe it’s just the way tv makes her out to be! I mean I’ll admit I only watched (unable to watch it now because it’s getting ridiculous) the show because of the GLAMOUR but I can’t stand the drama and black women acting a fool on tv!
I think she looks like Arsenio Hall with a a wig! She has had a lot of work done, fake breast, fake butt, big fake teeth and bug eyes she is ugly with has an even uglier personality! She really grew a set after Cordell dumped her but still has no clue how many days are in a year.
Kudos to her for having long hair underneath the wigs/weaves. But I would prefer if she just wore it out like other celebs do. Janelle, Solange. I would love to see more celebs promoting healthy hair without weaves. Like if she was talking about I use coconut oil or carrot oil or I use Carol’s daughter and she wore her hair out etc I would be like yeah girl!
there are too many celebs out there that are promoting and selling weaves why not be different and promote products for healthy hair. And when people say no she doesnt want to damage her hair. look at all the natural hair gurus that work with their own hair and manage to style it in cute ways, use heat sometimes and rock their curls without damaging and they are doing it alone (most without a stylist to help them). Most celebs have access to top stylists and top hair products and they would be having some ridiculously gorgeous hair just like the natural hair gurus. I would love for them to promote that. That’s just my two cents.

Weaves are the worst thing that’s happened to black women since slavery. Forty years of relaxers and my thin, broken hair never grew past my shoulders. Four years natural and it’s thick and at the middle of my back. Wake up sisters…you’ve been brainwashed long enough.

Black women have had to deal with the likes of the Great depression, the civil rights movement, single parenthood, the over-incarceration of Black men, crack and jheri curls…and you have the nerve to bring your dumbass on here and try and compare all of that to a weave? Chile…please, I can just see you sitting in a Best Buy or an Xfinity joint learning how to use the internet (improperly) for the first time. SMH…please go back to the plantation that you have been ridining shot gun on and stay off of those folks computer, even if they did tell you it was alright to use it. BTW, we have been brainwashed about real things such as the economy, your credit score and what’s really in the food you are giving yourself and your family…not a weave….pfffft..
Somewhat harsh & demeaning (albeit comical) but made good points. There are worse things than weave, but of course, some folks are only concerned with superficial, insubstantial matters.
A true black queen is confident enough to rock what naturally grows out of her head instead of hiding her beautiful curls behind a wavy weave or a cheap wig. Might you be one of those? I doubt it. The angrier you get over someone’s opinion, which we all have a right to, the closer to home it hits.

Maintaining a good weave isn’t that easy to manage. If it’s real hair you have to treat it well like if it was your own. Styling and moisturizing every day. If I had hair like that I wouldn’t wear a weave. Except maybe if I wanted color
I guess it’s all a matter of preference coz I wear wigs to protect my hair all year round (especially in winter). There are some days in summer when my hair thrives on its own without a wig. I love wigs since they offer variety in terms of colour and styles. So yeah
I reveal my natural hair every day I when I step out of the door. I am still waiting to be moved by one of these attention-seeking Instagram photo revelations.
Confession: I just lied. I am not waiting at all, because I can’t be impressed by something that millions of black women around the world do everyday.
I am so over these women and their addiction to fake hair, which looks completely ridiculous compared to their natural hair. Its something seriously off when a woman prefers to wear weave over their natural hair every day.
I may be a little dense, but I don’t understand the purpose of celebrities taking pictures of hair that they won’t allow anyone to see in person. Is it supposed to be inspirational, boastful, informational? I’m asking this in all seriousness. Why do people post “real hair” photos?

Um, okay. Somehow, I recall an episode where she wore her actually hair and it was a super short cute. There’s no way she would have been hiding that much hair under such a closely cropped “wig.”

I remember and she said that the short hair was all hers so….perhaps she is taking vitamins for the amazing growth and so little time because she professed the short hair as real not that long ago.

I don’t get it. Why would you put a weave if you have all that hair?
Weaves that are put in correctly can protect your hair from damage that comes from constant styling, i.e. – it’s better to use a flat/curling iron on fake hair than real hair.
Honestly? Because you can do all sorts of things to weave you may not dare do to your own head of hair for fear of damage. The last year I was relaxed I chose to wear weave for that exact reason and when the weave started to look old I removed it and either did another weave style or took a break and wore my hair.
It’s just that she doesn’t really enjoying her hair since she’s always with a weave.

I wish I could get it up for these kinds of reveals but honestly, I really can’t…all I can manage is a brief fantasy in which all the hair suppliers go out of business due to natural or technical causes. Used to be my fantasy was about all the relaxer companies going out of business…
