Introduce yourself!
N: Hi! My name is Nicia, but I’m known on the web as “GlamSwagger.” I’m from the Washington, DC area.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
N: I went natural because I was curious to see what my hair would look like without a relaxer. After seeing so many cute styles and helpful sites online, I took the plunge and did the big chop. I’ve been natural for 3 years now! The time is really flying by.

How would you describe your texture?
N: I have so many textures! I would say I’m mostly 4a/b, but there are also chunks of 3b and 3c mixed in there! My strands are mostly thick, but the lower back portion and my edges are very fine. My hair is also very dense. I attribute my big hair don’t care attitude to my density lol.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
N: I wash and deep condition my hair once a week. I usually decide whether I want to wear my hair out or up that week before I begin the wash process. “Up” means in a bun or puff or some kind of updo. “Out” usually means a twistout/braidout.

What does wash day look like for you?
N: I start by sectioning my hair into fourths. I spritz my hair with aloe vera juice/water and conditioner and I begin finger detangling. When I’m done I shampoo with Shikai Normal Everyday Shampoo and apply Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner in the shower, keeping my hair in sections. After an hour I detangle with my Ouidad double detangling comb and rinse. I use the Kimmaytube leave in conditioner mix and style my hair wet.

Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
N: My go to style is a flat twist and bun. If I’m going out and want instant glam, I’ll do a massive ninja bun at the top of my head. I love rocking buns; they go with any look!

How do you combat shrinkage?
N: I don’t let my hair dry loose. I get an insane amount of single strand knots. Other than that, shrinkage doesn’t bother me.

What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
N: I don’t have any problem areas per se, but single strand knots are my biggest pain! I’m partly to blame though. It’s important to seal your ends and don’t sleep with your hair loose!

What are 2 do’s for your texture?
N: Moisturize and seal!

What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
N: Air dry loose and excess heat.
