Old Navy recently tweeted a new ad that has the internet in complete uproar for their “Thank You” event. And here’s the kicker — all it seems to be is an ad featuring an interracial family featuring a black woman and child with a white man.
So cute, right? Nothing to see here, folks. But apparently, confederate flag Twitter lost their damn minds, calling the ad racist and promoting miscegenation in a negative manner. I don’t even know who uses words like miscegenation, but in case you aren’t familiar, it means “the interbreeding of people considered to be of different racial types.” I didn’t know that was any issue. But some people clearly take issue with the ad. Here we have “Glenn Beck fan”:
Honestly, I’d expect nothing less from a Glenn Beck fan, but if you never wore it, why so serious? Also, I don’t believe that he’s never shopped at Old Navy – it’s going to be hard for him to get carpenter jeans in the future. And then we have this gem:
“Bella,” who is a Trump supporter. Why am I not surprised? Or this guy, who claims that mixed race families are being rammed down his throat (that’s what she said).

Thankfully, other Twitter users clapped back at tweets like this (and there were several) in the best ways:

Can we please take a moment to recognize that the man in the photo could absolutely be the child’s biological father, and even if not, mixed families from previous relationships happen ALL the time. Hello, Brady Bunch? And the notion that the black father was absent or abandoned his child…what?
I’m still giggling at her calling him “mayo.” But the entire controversy can be summed up fairly easily:
In all seriousness, we saw this same type of backlash with the Cheerios commercial with the black father and white mother, and I seriously can’t understand why we’re still having this “argument” in 2016. Old Navy has actually had diverse ads for years, so this is nothing new. Good for them for ignoring the vitriol and represent the diversity of their customer base (they make really nice chambray shirts, too).
What do you all think of Old Navy’s latest ad?
