Mary J. Blige isn’t letting her issue-plagued divorce from Kendu Isaacs keep her down. The day after her 46th birthday, the singer posted a picture to Instagram wearing a bright yellow bikini with the simple caption “#MOOD”.
The look is definitely different for Mary J., who usually wears black and stays covered up. Who knew she was working with all of this goodness under those leather jackets and knee boots? We hope to see a lot more of carefree Mary J. Blige in 2017!

That is not the intent of the posts. It’s a celebration of black women’s unique anti-aging abilities. It’s a celebration of the melanin that keeps our skin buttery soft into our 40s, 50s and beyond.
It is not an exclamation of disbelief at her beauty. But perhaps we can do better in trying to convey why we posts these kinds of pieces.
Incidentally many of these posts are among our most popular. Black women are constantly told that their/our beauty is not enough. We want to celebrate it as being phenomenal.
