Lupita Nyong'o Claps Back on Instagram After Vogue Credits Audrey Hepburn as Her Met Gala Hair Inspiration

Many fans swooned over Lupita Nyong’o’s gorgeous sky-high Met gala updo. The actress definitely stole the show and her look stood out as one of the best of the night.

It wasn’t long until Vogue started some foolishness, crediting her look to — of all people — Audrey Hepburn.

Which is baffling because sculptural updos are a distinctly African style. And, on the Met red carpet, Nyong’o mentioned Nina Simone as one of her hair inspirations.

Lupita Nyong’o responded to Vogue’s misappropriation with a classy clap back video on Instagram and made sure to tag the fashion mag in the caption.

Well done Lupita, well done.

  1. Good for her. Tell them Lulu! Gosh. Did they even think or research before making that post. Yerrr man! They could have just called and asked. Simple.

    1. They already knew because she stated Nina Simone was one of her inspirations. They did that on purpose. It’s to deflect that we’re flames(FIRE) and they’re are moths. They do it all of the time. They’re seriously transparent.Don’t understand how some ppl really fall for such an awful act( lil Kim) . They tell us everyday we’re Beautiful. Don’t see them targeting anyone else.

I recently found out Mark Walburg went around attacking black ppl on sight before he was famous. He then became a ” hip hop artist” shortly after..funny isn’t it?

        1. Yeah- I think he actually blinded the guy in one eye. Ever since I found out I stopped watching his movies cause I figure that deep down, that’s how he really feels.

  2. Every day white people do stupid shit that makes me feel a little more racist towards them.

  3. The first photo in the video that she posted, was originally posted by @EmbracingBlackCulture on their instagram!

    1. When I was young, people were ashamed when they got the clap. they didn’t go out and post it on the facebooks or twit about it.

      Where’s the pride?

      1. I think your referring to the clap as in STD? “Clap back” is totally different it simply means a response to negativity. I think you have it all wrong.

  4. This is so righteous. I love how she responds so clearly and succinctly, with her inspiration. Both her hairstyle and Nina Simone’s are so gorgeous.

  5. Good clapback. If anything AUDREY was the one doing the stealing…like they always do.

  6. It’s the only thing Vogue could relate to. Our history is not promoted like theirs so their views remain narrow. smh

    1. A high profile fashion magazine distorts reality for all women who buy into their BS. Vogue’s views are narrow, not to mention superficial, regardless of what they’re discussing.

  7. Y’all have to post the article Lupita wrote about why she skipped over HOllywood roles an chose to be in Danai Gurai’s (<333) Tony nominated play. It's perfection.

It's on Lennyletter.com and titled: Why I Chose a "Small Play" Over the Big Screen

Lupita is straight up legendary role model status, i'm continually in awe of her. I feel exactly the same way about Danai Gurai who y'all stay sleep on. This stupid sh** is expected of these white obsessed, white run magazines that target white women. I'm so glad Lupita spoke up.

Also LOVEEEE that picture of Miss Nina!!

    1. Omigosh, Yes Danai I love her (in my opinion she should have played nina simone) – I’m happy that them two ladies are in the industry

    2. I pulled up the LennyLetter.com article and am about to read it now. Thanks for turning me on the Danai Gurai. I’ll have to follow her, too. In some of her pics, she looks like a younger version of Viola Davis.

    3. The play is truly phenomenal, too. So rarely do we get to see full casts of women of color, and so I was elated when they absolutely killed it. It’s emotional and hilarious and absolutely heartbreaking. And now girl has a Tony nomination!

  8. Apparently other black women can’t influence us it has to be some white women that’s not even relevant anymore, this media gets on my nerves
