Kierra // Natural Hair Style Icon

After Kierra submitted her photo to last week’s Style Snap, many of you wanted to here more about her regimen. Here it is!

Where do you live?
K:
I presently live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but I am originally from Port Arthur, Texas! I am a full time cosmetology student and a part time administrative assistant in a medical practice.

Why did you go natural?
K:
I have always desired my natural hair since I was a young girl, but I finally followed through with the transition when I was old enough to decide for myself whether or not I wanted to continue relaxing my crown and glory or embrace it! I made the decision to go natural in high school (2004). I did not have much information on how to do it at that time, so I just wore cornrows for a few months, then chopped it all off.

Being natural is a confidence booster! You make the statement that you are comfortable in your skin, and you are grateful for the features God has blessed you with. My hair is a conversation starter; people are drawn to it and are curious about it.

How would you describe your hair?
K:
Curly with fine strands, dense and very porous.

What’s your regimen?
K:
My regimen is simple; I shampoo and condition my hair once a week, then I style it so it can last until the next wash. Recently, I have been wearing twist outs and mohawks and I am loving the low maintenance of both styles. I am also looking for a new shampoo and conditioner to use regularly; I’m leaning towards Sebastian Drench Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. One thing that has been consistent is my use of extra virgin olive oil, 100% shea butter, and jojoba oil to moisturize my hair. I also like Qhemet Biologics. Lastly, I flat iron my hair every other month.

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
K:
Overuse of heat and applying color too often were my downfalls in the past. I’ve learned to use heat in moderation and to apply color every few years, lol.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
K:
Other than keeping it moisturized, I allow it to rest. I style it, and I leave it alone.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
K:
My blog is www.txqt24.blogspot.com, and my channel is www.youtube.com/user/txqt24.

Anything else you want to add?
K:
As we enhance our outer beauty, let’s improve what is inside of us as well.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”, Proverbs 31:30

  1. Her hair is gorgeous, but I noticed she uses 100% shea butter. Doesn’t that smell awful? I have a whole jar full, but have a friend mix it into a lotion. I’m assuming you mix it with something before you can use it in your hair. Or maybe I’m just oversensitive to how it smells.
