i’m going to pause now to celebrate my 99 blog followers.
when i started this blog in april, i didn’t realize how much i actually didn’t know about natural hair. i was putting up photos of women with long natural hair which, i guess, is important… but then i realized i was a tad bit, um, obsessed with long hair. (hi. my name is leila, i’m a long-natural-hair-aholic.)
i then started having my own questions about (and subsequently tried to post about) natural haircare. which, i know nothing about.
ok, not nothing. but not much. i mean, it’s no coincidence that i end most of my posts with ‘what do YOU think?’… it’s a thinly veiled cry for information.
i know there are blogs out there that are faaarrrr more informative than mine (man, i be checkin them myself), but i deeply appreciate that so many of you choose to drop by my little corner of cyberspace. you’ve been patient with my flubs, my radical opinions (and my radical color scheme changes), and i ‘preciate it.
so, here’s to you! thanks for the love and support.
and, although i like to keep my visual identity secret, given the occasion, i will post a photo of me and my twists. this was a few months back.

i’ve been natural since august 06 and am STILL struggling with which products and styles work for my texture and life. i really love your blog!!! its the first of its kind that I’ve come across. not only do write about achieving healthy natural hair but you post reader’s photos of creative hairstyles for naturals looking to maintain the health of and grow their hair. I mean honestly i really appreciate the photos you and other post on here because my slicked back high ponytail was getting played out and I have already adapted some of the styles i’ve seen on here for work so thank you thank you thank you!

I’ve been completely natural since September 2008 and, it’s true, it’s like having to learn anew how to care for your own hair!
Oh, and thank you so much for posting that piece yesterday on chemicals in black hair products. It was shocking and enlightening. I immediately threw away my moisturiser and leave-in and ordered a jar of unrefined shea butter online!
