D: I live in Houston, TX! And I’m an undergraduate student until December 🙂
Why did you go natural?
D: Simple. After years of wearing other people’s hair, I wanted to wear my own. I began transitioning about 2.5 years ago. I basically wore weave until my hair grew out. I definitely feel more comfortable with myself, and I’m also able to inspire others to embark upon the journey as well.
What’s your regimen?
D: Oh boy! It depends on how I want to wear it. I typically wear twists/twist outs throughout the week and I use a combination of oils (i.e. coconut, jojoba, and castor oil), and a cocoa mango butter concoction. If I don’t have that, I turn to Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme, or Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Buttercream.
How would you describe your hair?
D: Kinky, thick strands, dense and very porous
What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
D: I have been fortunate to learn from the mistakes of my natural friends/mentors, but I did make the mistake of ignoring knots. I know better now!
What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
D: Deep conditioning treatments
Anything else you want to add?
D: The natural journey is long and difficult, but hang in there! You will love your hair and it will love you right back! It’s corny, but it’s so true.

I need a tutorial for her mohawk!!! I so wanna try that do!!
@LaToya…That’s pretty cool! Maybe I can see your work one day!
This is funny, I’m a grad student/visual artist. My artwork focuses on women with natural hair. One day someone (another grad student) slid a picture of Danielle under the door of my studio, they thought that she would fit right in with my work. When I saw the image I was like “wow this is a beautiful women, and I love her hair!”
How do you deep condition? What do you use? Your hair is quite lush.
omg. . .pure beauty! I can’t believe you have only been natural 2.5 years. keep doing whatever you’re doing! I love the hair chain in the last pic!
Simply stunning! Hair, skin. Completely stunning!

@Alicia Yes. Definitely keep a photo album…I wish I did. It’s really encouraging to track your progress.
@anon… There isn’t much to my modeling background. It started as a hobby, but recently (as in the last few months) I’ve decided to take it more seriously. After I graduate in December, I plan to market myself more aggressively. Many of my friends (along with myself) have seen my photos circulating around the web, so I guess it’s good Ive been seen. I would like to concentrate my craft in the natural hair realm, so Godwilling that will cone to fruition. If you have any suggestions for me, pass them my way!
@BGLH Thank you! Much appreciated
Can we have more about your modeling info? I know we’ve all seen this girls photos (beautiful as they are) all over the internet so can we get a little on the modeling background and natural hair in it, etc.

@Alana… Thanks for your feedback! I actually have a few more photos of Danielle. I’ll update the post with them.
You’re hair is so gorgeous Danielle. I’ve been natural for a little over 2 years and my hair is not even close. I am going to have to try new things to get it to grow. Thanks for the pictures!
I used to really love the features on BGLH, showing ladies with different hair types from all over the world. What stood out most was the number of pics….which I felt made the site stand head and shoulders above the others. These days the features are there but there’s only 1 or 2 shots rather than many to admire. Look at Danielle’s beautiful head of hair! That deserves more than just 2 photos!
OMG it’s good to see a fellow Houstonian on this site!!!!! Your hair is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!
Goodness…for a split second, i thought it was a wig…I apologize…..
Your hair looks so beautiful…so thick and full….
Man!
