Singer Chrisette Michele Rocks Braided Bun at Movie Premiere

Chrisette Michele spiced up her TWA with some braid extensions that she pulled up into a high bun for the New York Premiere of Madea’s Witness Protection. It’s a cute look, and one that fellow natural celeb Solange is known for rocking. Check out the pictures below and let us know what you think of the look! All photos courtesy of Zimbio.com.

  1. I find it to be very rude and quite disheartening to see so many negative comments about a individual who I am sure many of you do not know personally. This is a free country and you are entitled to your opinions, but if your opinion does not speak life into or about an individual, try keeping the negative ones to yourself. After all there is a mirror some where near you and I am sure that everything that you see in it is not perfect. ……be it outwardly or inwardly. Judge not lest you will be be judged.

  2. WOW! so much negativity! this post was about hair so it should have stuck to just hair! And why does weight always have to be an issue?

  3. Dang this was depressing! I didn’t expect to have to scroll past so much negativity to get to a positive. Even with the extra cleavage she’s showing much less than other more popular singers. Since they are smaller I guess it’s okay. That’s a damn shame…

I love you Chrisette!! I love, love her voice and that she can look good in many styles: short, long, weave, natural, braids etc. If you love it, don’t change it!!

  4. Ya’ll some hating ………I can express myself better but I thought she looked amazing HONESTLY. I wonder what some of you look like that had so much to say about her? I really feel bad that she had to be ridiculed on a website by a bunch of nobodies. Her weight or whatever is her problem, I think she is fine the way she is! Everybody doesn’t need to change themselves to fit the criteria of the public, no, no! This is coming from someone that is a size 0 and 109 lbs, I don’t think she needs to go J Hud, no shade to her but I love Chrisette the way she is, God Bless.

  5. Wow!! My god!! I am embarrased and dumbfounded by some of the hostile comments expressed on this forum. Sure, everyone is free to express an opinion but at the cost of pulling someone’s else self esteem down to the ground and then stamping on it for good measure? Is this the direction this website is heading? When I first saw the pictures of Chrisette Michele my first thought was how fresh and chic she looked, how many of us can look this good? Just look at how stunning her skin & hair looks, she glowing!! Okay she’s not a size 0 but who cares for goodness sake!!She still manages to look both stylish and relaxed. I seriously hope to god she doesnt take these destructive comments to heart. Blessings x

  6. Sure she can stand to lose a few but that’s the case for MANY sisters including myself. I think the problem is how you dress your body. It doesn’t matter if you are thin or thick. It’s how you dress for your body.

Now on to the hair, it is very cute. I’ve not seen much of her but she’s a pretty girl and her hairstyle is nice. Also, not many people can rock a high bun…just sayin’ just like the clothing.

  7. I think she’s beautiful. I love the bun. And I agree with an earlier comment that peach looks lovely on her.

  8. Wow!!! I just read the all of the comments and in shock by how some people can be so rude and just down right mean. You may not like the outfit but at least be polite about it, It’s funny I saw this on MediaTakeOut first and like Chrisette said they were more polite which is really shocking….Anyway Chrisette you are a beautiful and talanted woman and I love your music, and can’t wait for the next album!!!

  9. Pretty Skin. Beautiful, simple bun. And maybe all too many of us can relate to the challenges of weight gain. She may still be adjusting to fame and this may be a temporary change, but in this moment in time she looks natural and pretty. Eating right is a journey for most of us. If we have mastered it all the better, if we haven’t yet its a decision we can make at any time.

      1. Pretty, curvy girl. I actually felt inspired when I saw post because she does look so curvy and womanly. I am not the skinniest by far, but I could definitely borrow some of her curves.

  10. Cute hair style. I wonder how it looks like when she wears it down.

Some of these comments are so unnecessary. I get that everyone has an opinion, but you don’t need to be an @$$hole about it. I would love for some of you to post pictures of yourself on any given day so we can all judge you and let you know how tore up you look.

  11. Gawd, you women are so effin judgmental in the worst way. And the irony is, with America being more than 50% overweight and even higher rates amongst Black women, I KNOW many of you are pots calling the kettle black.

All of these comments makes you guys look so ugly, and it isn’t surprising that so many Black women can’t find men. Miserable, judgmental, hypocritical and plain old mean aren’t characteristics you can turn off and on, no matter how much you try and hide it. People can tell this is who you are, and that is what keeps good people away.

You guys need to find a life coach to make you better people.

    1. I agree with you! While I stand by my earlier statement that, that outfit is one of my more least favorite looks on Chrisette, there is NO NEED to figuratively rip the woman apart. People too often confuse “keepin it real” with being unecessarily mean and cruel. There is a way to get your point across without being as such.

    2. It’s a free country I’m ashamed of all the comments that’s not just attacking her outfit but her weight as well. Whose to say you have to be super skinny rocking a natural look. She’s super talented and can look however she wants.People these days are to negative for the wrong reasons and that speaks volumes about their characters.

  12. I really liked her outfit, guess im in the minority though lol! I guess I personally like when the things look messy and more chill and relaxed but that could just speak to my carefree attitude. Her micros look really nicely done and I love how her make-up is simple yet makes her look stunning. Also me personally, I don’t think her weight is an issue. Until I hear in the news that she is sent to the hospital because of it or she stops in the middle of show cause she can’t go on anymore then she should be left alone to be content in her own skin.

  13. I will say this: Chrisette Michele is an incredibly talented musician, and her is hair is on point. Having said that, the fact of the matter is, the overall outfit does not look well put together. Period. Now, I agree that everyone is entitled to an off day, so I will not say any more about that, but I’m not going to ignore my opinion of the look, simply because I like her music, and she is a beautiful soul in the vast scope of things. If I was looking a hot mess, I’d want someone to say something to me, instead of telling me I look great when I don’t, simply because I’m a good person. Frankly, the latter is less considerate. Now, some comments have been unnecessarily cruel, but some of you are acting like somebody just insulted your momma, and you need to calm down a little. Because more than likely, if someone DID put our photos up on a blog, and WE were relentlessly criticized for how we look, Chrisette Michele, as wonderful and as beautiful as she is, probably wouldn’t take the time out to so passionately defend you. Not hating. Just speaking truth. Okay. Sorry for tirade. I’m done.

  14. P.S. Random rant – what is up with the second row of photos that now appears under each post and above the comment section. I don’t like it. It was better when all ads were in the sidebar…

  15. she is so darn cute. i love the hair; not sure if the boobies spilling out of the top was intentional, but the outfit isn’t as terrible as some of you are making it seem. as for the folks going in on her weight, just stop. she doesn’t have to be a size 00. she’s lovely as she is.

  16. When I see this picture the 1st thing that came to mind is the “Got Milk” commercial lol…. Her weight is fine, it’s not like she has always been skinny, just a thick sista. Now I like the bun, and plus those edges look beautiful. I’ve seen plenty of women online/youtube that have some jacked up edges but Chrisette looks very pretty with this style.

  17. So weird. I actually read this site all the time for fun hair facts. I thought this was a community that supported me. Funny thing is, I got more love on Media Take-Out about this very same day. The premiere was a blast! Disappointed in you girls. But whatever. Can’t wait to share my next album with the people who know what I’m about.

    Chrisette her self…
    Peace

    1. I’m not sure if this is realllllllllly Chrisette, but if so — I just want to say that you are truly a gifted musician!!! I have introduced your work (p.s. your first album is my favorite) to so many of my friends, and they are hooked. I need to hurry up and get married so that I can dance with my dad to “Your Joy!” LOVE that song and your whole vibe!

    2. I totally understand, and I’m just now seeing the blog-but don’t forget there are some ladies showing you love on here too. My fave is the short big chop hair, but I love that all the time anyway. The braids are cool too, especially for protective styling.

    3. Chrisette, I don’t care if you were wearing a potato sack and a doo rag…your voice and performances are ALWAYS is awesome (I saw you @ the Blue Note this winter WOW !!!!!) and I have seen you live at least 4 times ( in NYC and ATL) and am waiting for you to come back to ATL. I could care less what you are rocking, although you always look fly to me, just keep singing!

    4. But correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t you subject to a bit more scrutiny due to your being in the public eye? So, I would hope that you surround yourself with excellent people – not yes only folk – who would present you with valid advice from fashion to business decisions.

BTW first heard you on Michael Baisden and thought your voice sounded like melted butter. LOl I need some popcorn now.

      1. You are wrong. Extra scrutiny is not a requirement for being in the public eye. A celebrity should expect more scrutiny b/c there are people like YOU in the world who feel obliged to speak whatever negative thought they have into the world.

Please understand it is not your duty to be a bitch towards celebrities, simply because they are celebrities. But it would behoove celebrities to have thicker skin b/c there are far too many people like you who are unkind and DEFEND their poor attitude by begging the question with bs responses like “she’s a celebrity and should expect it lots of criticism”

        1. Uh Nik Nak, your language is a bit strong. I’ll choose to respond in a gentle tone.

My concern, as expressed in my previous comment, is that Chrisette should not be taken aback by unfavorable comments. What counts -I reiterate – is the strong, unbiased support with which she should surround herself. I didn’t make any negative comments, and actually compared her voice to melted butter. Perhaps I should have said honey and that would have seemed less harsh to you.

FYI I do not engage in people worship. I think that everyone is worth celebrating and a celbrity in their own way. Even you are gifted with unique talents as evidenced in your response above.

          #peaceileavewithyou

    5. A lot of Chrisette Michelle’s fans that read and comment on BGLH or are forum members, I’m sure can not wait to hear her next album and continue to support her.

This is an open section of the site that naturals visit, though not everyone who comments here is natural, a regular, a fan of the site, a supporter of natural hair, or even female. And of course, everyone has an opinion and their own way of expressing it.

I thought the dark chignon and nude MU and flawless skin looked great, I also loved the coral tones (why don’t more Black women use them?). There are readers here with positive feedback!

    6. For kicks and giggles I went to media takeout…they put up the a before picture of you (with a black dress and blond hair) and an after (the one above). But they took it extra and blew-up the one with your boobies popping out with a caption about milk. Ironically, I thought you look better in the first picture because you look classier…..

Full disclaimer, I did not read all of the comments (if you’ve been to media you know why), but I think your boobs popping out were the main focus of many of the men. This is a woman’s forum, so if you take out the ‘look boobies’ crowd, it’s no different than here, some saying you look fine, some talking about your voice, some your hair and some saying that was not your best look. I’m with the last camp.

  18. I think she looks cute just to be stepping out to see a movie.. doesn’t have to be perfect. I bet if some skinny mini was rocking this look it would be acceptable and also her shape is great! she isn’t rockin like a muffin top or anything.. ppl can be so hateful.. they say your, your own worst critic.. wonder what you think of yourselves? smh

  19. I don’t like the bun, but then again, I don’t like braid extensions. I really like her natural hair better.

  20. I dont care how many punds she has gained the girl can BLOW. I would take her as a role model before i take beyonce I love chrisette the hair was nice too

  21. I am so confused on this one….not the outfit, hair or her weight…BUT the amount of negtivity splashed around!!! I expected more from BGLH readers but then again this is the world we live in. I wanna see some pics of the people who had something CRAZY to say…so I can throw rocks at you…I kno someone BRIGHT is gonna say “But everyone is entitled to thier own opinion”…AND…

    1. Agreed the snark and cattiness isn’t called for…because it isn’t what you say but HOW you present it. Love her braids I wish I can find someone to do mines 🙁 but she has such a gorgeous face.

    2. + A Gazillion – she is a beautiful girl. Can’t/Won’t judge the outfit. I leave such things to the fashion police. As far as weight goes, no one knows whether she gained weight on purpose of if she is dealing with a personal issues. As long as she is healthy and happy with herself that is enough. She is extremely talented. God bless her.

  22. Can’t believe there are so many negative comments on this woman. My first thought was, wow what a beautiful face! Guess some people just need to tear others down.

    1. Agreed! She’s gorgeous! She looks WAAAAY better than me on a regular day! Love the hair, dig the outfit, beautiful young woman!

      1. She’s much more beautiful than I will ever be also. But I guess when you are in the public eye, people are going to comment about everything. Part of the package in being famous.

P.S. I have no idea who she is!

      1. Chrisette Michele is indeed! That has been covered. I believe her braid bun looks lovely. That has been covered. The outfit choice? Not necessarily the best (albeit the harshness of other comments) that has been spoken of as well. So again, anything else would just be a overplayed repeat.

  23. I actually think the outfit would look better without the belt, and instead of the lighter washed distressed boyfriend looking jeans, some really dark wash skinny jeans or jeggings. But her face looks pretty and I like the shoes and braids

  24. I adore Chrisette Michele! I’ve seen her in concert and she has such a beautiful voice and spirit. I think her braided bun is cute and much more natural looking than the blonde hair (obviously).

  25. WOW! Okay fashion police… SMH I think she looks amazing, I love the look and her hair looks amazing as well.

      1. chrisette has packed them on. i saw a youtube video of her and she just looked not very good. she looked like a grandmom from waist down.

she’s young, in the spotlight and should be looking her best or better. not skinny but certainly having a more youthful looking body, imo.

i just don’t like seeing overweight bw, esp. when they don’t have to be.

        she’s pretty though.

      2. Generally I find it rude to make unsolicited comments about a person’s weight, but I definitely think the unfortunate outfit is the result of a young woman struggling to dress a body she’s uncomfortable with. “Look at my breasts! Ignore the rest!” I’ve been there. (BTW, I’m seeing her with Ledisi & Eric Benet Friday night. Can’t wait!)

      3. -3 for being defensive. The girl looks sloppy, no one is asking her to be a size 0, but she has enough money to tone up.

        1. I agree she is definitely not looking as good as she has in the past. I hope she is okay and not going thru changes, either way hopefully she will get herself together. She is very pretty and I have seen her look much better, her weight fluctuates but either way she carried it well. This outfit does nothing for her!

  26. I like! I’m getting my hair braided this weekend and can’t wait! It’s definitely summertime 🙂

  27. The bun alone would typically be okay but coupled with this lazy/sloppy outfit, it just makes the whole look seem worse.

    1. Thought so too. She seems to be almost spilling out of the top! It goes well with the belt but I don’t think this is the right fit for her.And the destroyed jeans just look awful! She may have been going for a casual carefree look but this is poorly put together.

      1. I agree – it’s about the whole package. What’s the use of sporting a beautiful natural hairstyle when the rest does not match up!

        1. DITTO! omg…i felt so bad..she didn’t have a good good girlfriend to pull her together and tap some glue on the edge of her lash..
