Introduce yourself!
C: My name is Chelsea Boatey. I’m from Ghana, West Africa, but I live in Minnesota.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
C: I’ve been natural since 2011. Actually, I had really short natural hair but I decided to grow it out in 2011, so I didn’t exactly “big chop”. My big sister went natural after high school and it looked really great on her. I couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked with a fro, so that motivated me to go natural as well.
How would you describe your texture?
C: I’m new to the whole texture craze, but I think my hair is 4b and 4c. It’s very loose in the front and thick at the back.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
C: I’m an updo freak! Twist outs barely work for me. I load a huge amount of moisturizer in my hair at the beginning of the week so I don’t have to during the week. I like to work with semi-dry hair, so I don’t ever spritz my hair because my hair shrinks immediately. Updos are fast and easy so I don’t spend hours styling my hair before work or school. All I use is Edge Control and a Joico Hairspray for that strong hold.
What does wash day look like for you?
C: I always have to prepare myself mentally for washing my hair a week before I do. I don’t use shampoo my hair. I use only Organix hair products. I section my hair into 4. I use the Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Conditioner to condition my hair 45 minutes to an hour. Then I detangle with a wide tooth comb. After cowashing I apply the Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Intense Moisturizing Treatment and I allow it to air dry.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
C: I comb the sides of my hair down and hold it in a little pony at the back and leave the middle out. I apply my Joico Hairspray to give it a firm hold and tuck it in with a bobby pin.
How do you combat shrinkage?
C: I absolutely hate shrinkage! Anytime a drop of water touches my hair it shrinks. I usually use a hot comb to stretch it out or I blow it dry.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
C: Being in the modeling business, my hair has been dyed three times. It left my hair a little damaged, so I always try to treat my hair so it’s stronger. Also I have uneven length. The front is super long and the back is short.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
C: Always twist hair when semi wet. Use either shea butter or Eco Styler Gel to lock the twists.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
C: Make sure your hair is dry before taking out your twists. Wash and go’s never work for my hair…so sad.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

Hair and woman too pretty!????????????
She got the same hair type as me, absolutely gorgeous.
Beautiful girl and awesome photos!!
Wow I thought this website was meant to promote the natural hair community. I’d rather you comment on the hair which is the only reason I was featured on here. Please leave my physical beauty and the “fashion industry” out of this. I don’t care about a “red blooded white man’s” definition of beauty or what they look for in women. If that’s your perspective in life then you have self esteem issues. I don’t live to make others like me or not. Beauty is skin deep, it’s your uniqueness and ability to carry yourself as a queen(which all women are) that makes others inspired and attracted to you. This is not an argument. I respect other people’s views but you don’t know me, you don’t know my story and you don’t know what I’m going to become so just be careful how you handle sensitive issues. Honestly its never that deep. Thanks
Honey, you are gorgeous!! All of you–from top to bottom.
Twirl. Fabulous. Twirl 🙂
Don’t let other people’s insecurities and false sense of entitlement (to say whatever unwarranted, patently false things they want in a bid to be ‘honest’) get to you. You – and your hair and your face and your style and your personality – are absolutely gorgeous <3
She has hair like me. Ekkkkk i like it!
#geeking right now
I don’t understand why some people are saying she’s “average looking”.. She’s gorgeous!! Admit it..plain n simple..
Thank you!
She’s gorgeous! I’m an updo fanatic myself! High ponytails and top-knots will be the death of me. I think her length issue comes from that. I used to have the same problem: too much tension on the back from being pulled up so high toward the front. Won’t give up the updos but I started loosening the back up and letting it sort of poof so it didn’t pull as much and that really helped.
Hey chelsea can you tell me what modeling agency your involved in? I modelled for two Years but stopped but I would love to dtart modelling again!
Average face but beautiful hair!!! Fashion is alright too.
What a backhanded compliment
Hhahahahaha
Wow, it must have been painful for you to say the girl has great hair and a great / stunning sense of style. You just had to throw in that you thought her face average. Special.
And i think she is stunning, face and all. She has model quirks (she’d fit in camden or carnaby street)and ought to follow it on. You never know!
Well I didn’t mean it to be rude. But when I read it back it wasn’t too nice of me to say. I apologize. I actually didn’t know she was really on here talking to us. I thought she was some random model plucked out of a magazine and I was like, “oh she ain’t alla that” Now that I know she’s real, I take my comment back. She’s brave and bravery is always beautiful.
Akso, I’m kind of tired of this whole false image thing where we are told if we look like a model, then we are automatically attractive. By who’s standard? I am sorry, but I find women with more so called average builds much more beautiful than this girl. I rather hate the “model look” You know the fashion industry is mostly run by gay white men right? It is mostly their gay perspective of beauty in which you are buying. Nothing wrong with that, but you ask most red blooded American men they’d not find this body type she has as attractive. Most men prefer a more shorter rounder version of this girl.
She is striking more than gorgeous and I suspect she knows this, and it’s helped her career.

Well your hair looks great.
HOTCOMB AT THE DROP OF WATER???
You combined two sentences and completely misinterpreted what she wrote. Wouldn’t expect anything less from the infamous pessimist, TINA SMITH.
Speechless!!! Natural hair Stunner!!!!!
Fabulous!
Great hair story, simple and honest.
Yessss! Chelsea, you are serving me my life right now! Absolutely stunning, sis! Love your hair and your style! Ghana, turn up!
Ummm, you are gorgeous, you and your hair! #thatsall ;0)
Your beauty is more on the inside. You may be average looking, but your beauty shines from within.
Colalover & TINA SMITH – do everyone on this site a favor and never come back to comment again.
I’ll comment now! Is she a tranny? I think it’s cool if she is one. 🙂

beautiful woman and hair!
What a beautiful woman!!
Love her commitment to doing updos and it’s interesting that she tries not to wet/damp style. I believe if you want stretched styles as a 4c you have to be careful about your water/spray usage and yet my hair is so thirsty that it needs spray to be adequately moisturised. Anyway 4Cs who are this creative with their hair inspire me to try.
My hair gets dry quickly too, so i need to spray in the week, even though i do at the start. I have low porosity 4c (though i think it is more 4z lol) hair and i need to keep it as moisturised as possible. This also inspires me too.
YES YES YESSSSS CHELSEA!
You’re super gorgeous
Ghana stand up!
