Dark Skinned women have the unique advantage of arguably being able to pull off just about any and every shade of lipstick. There’s just something about bright lipstick playing against deep, smooth skin, that is immediately eye-catching. Unfortunately, there are far too many people who subscribe to the out-dated belief that dark skinned women shouldn’t wear reds, pinks, purples, or any other other bright lip color. Thankfully we’ve discovered an impressive list beauty bloggers and makeup enthusiasts who laugh in the face of this notion, and rock brights shades fierely and proudly.  Take a look:

As a fellow Dark skin sista THANKS for this. It’s so important for you to find the right hue of color in any color. The issues i have is in this day & age of IG filters it’s really heard to see how the TRUE color looks on the sister. These filters sometime give false hope. Even on this thread I notice how the colors work when the picture looks unfiltered.

Me with black lipstick and blue lipstick. Brown girls can wear any shade they want. You just have to make it work for you

I wish so many black women bloggers or bloggers would stop this “obvious contour/highlight” trend. It looks bad in pics so I can imagine just how bad it looks in person.
I was wondering what was the purpose of contouring. I tried it and I looked look an extra from “Thriller”!
I know right lol. I like contouring but I don’t like the obvious type. It should be subtle and play up your features. For example, I have high cheekbones but a little baby fat left over (i’m in my early 20s). My makeup routine is mad simple. Teeny bit of bb cream. some bronzer to match my skin tone and then a bit of darker finishing power right under them cheekbones to bring them out. You can see the effect but it’s not like OMG HI HELLO I”M CONTOURED lol.
But everyone is free to do what they like.
I think judging others on how they choose to apply their makeup should stop first…

Black women have such beautiful complexions!! Just so smooth and glowing!
I grew up in the 90’s reading fashion/beauty magazines, and back then it was said frequently that darker skin tones were the ONLY women who could pull off bold colors. It’s always important to remember that a LOT of things said about black women are said out of jealousy. Who else can wear green lipstick and not look sick?
Bold color lipsticks look gorgeous on melanin-rich girls.
BGLH, what do you consider dark-skinned? because I see 4 I DON’T CONSIDER DARK-SKINNED….all pull off color wonderfully….
We reached out to beauty bloggers and vloggers and let them know what the post would be about (bold lips/dark skin). So if they supplied us photos, then they consider themselves dark skinned.

Wow are you really that petty?! Last time I checked “YOU” are not the official color inspector. Black women come in all shades of brown and last time I checked, brown is still “darker” than white!
brown is darker than white….BUT the title is DARK SKINNED and has nothing to do with the white community….also petty has nothing to do with my statement….
So are you implying that we should have labeled the article “Bold Lips on Brown Skin”? All black women are brown. I’m confused.
How do you know that the women who submitted pictures of THEMSELVES don’t consider themselves “dark-skinned”? Last time I checked it is very petty to draw artificial lines in the sand about who is lightskinned vs darskinned when the people themselves can make those distinctions, not you. You clearly put in all caps in your post “I DON’T CONSIDER DARK-SKINNED” as if your opinion mattered. And if we wanted to be really technical, yes all black/brown women compared to other races have “darker skin, so by definition we are all dark skinned.
I think what alex is trying to say is that the OP should have just said “black women” instead of dark skin since “dark skin” is actually an adjective to describe the colour and shade of a specific skin colour not race and there are a few light skinned women in there who cannot be considered dark skinned. Do you understand now? 🙂
