Style: Drini in California

Introduce yourself!
D:
Hey hey!! My name is Drini, and I am a pro makeup artist in Los Angeles, California.

What is your style philosophy?
D:
My style philosophy is dressing for me first. I believe I’ve mastered the art of dressing comfortably with a girlie twist. I tend to adopt trends that match my personality, which is fun, colorful and bold. Every trend is not for me, and I’m ok with that.

How would you describe your sense of style?
D:
I would say that I’m classic chic with a little bohemian flare. I love layering but still rely on classic, simple items that don’t require a lot of thought. I own 1 pair of jeans that I very seldom wear and I hate heels, so I’m a serious sandal girl.

What is the process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
D:
Some days I’m lazy, so that’s a Tom’s and a beanie kind of day, and then some days I feel glam, which is a full face of makeup, gladiators or heels and a tight pencil skirt or body con dress. Some days I feel tomboyish, which can be a mixture of lazy and glam…so depending on my mood, I try to dress and accessorize accordingly.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
D:
My Colin Stuart faux suede tie-up sandals that I wear twice a week at minimum from www.victoriassecret.com, my leather collared tuxedo jacket from www.forever21.com and my long, printed maxi skirts with inverted pockets my late friend Nefertiti made me.

What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
D:
My top 2 for sandals is www.GoJane.com and www.LuLus.com and for clothes www.Asos.com and www.CityChicOnline.com.

How long have you been natural?
D:
I’ve been natural for over 17 years now. The most I do is color my hair sans bleach.

How and why did you transition into natural hair?
D:
My mom permed my hair for years when I was younger because she knew no other way to tame my thick, curly hair. I would hate leaving the perm on for more than a few seconds because my scalp would burn. Finally in my early teens I decided I was over it, and I was going natural. I was heavy into individual braids, then high buns and now I just wash my hair and go curly. The best decision I EVER made!

What is your signature hairstyle?
D:
My signature hairstyle is a part down the middle, curly all over. My curls last up to 2-3 days before I have to let the steam from my shower reactivate the curl pattern, but the beauty is that I only put product in my hair the first day when it’s still wet and not much else throughout the week.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
D:
I generally wash my hair every 3-4 days. When I do, I wash with TIGI Bed Head Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner. While my hair is still wet I apply coconut oil directly to my scalp and scrunch my curls using “Shelly Jelly” which is a lightweight jam in a pump that is extremely moisturizing and preserves curl definition. I have tried nearly every product for curly hair and this is the first product that doesn’t weigh my curls down and keeps them soft and manageable. It is exclusively sold at I Love LuLu Hairspa in Los Angeles. Call for details, your curls will LOVE you!! (I Love LuLu Hair Spa 323-934-5727).

    1. Thank you Lauryn!! Isn’t it so liberating?! You don’t have to worry about fitting in or rocking trends that aren’t suitable for you……it’s just you being you and loving it!

  5. What a gorgeous woman with great style and makeup!!! I love it… I myself share your style philosophy…. I am a reformed ” who cares if it hurts, it looks great” kind of girl…. But two small children later- I just don’t have the time or the patience! I like to still be sexy, but comfortable. Your pics are inspiring… It only takes one piece or one lipstick to completely change your look… You are beautiful

    1. Awwww, thank you Jessica!! You can look sexy w/o the pain, trust me, I live by this!! My friends will rock Louboutins and Giuseppe’s, feet screamin and yelling and I refuse. I will gladly rock some gladiators w/ a body con dress and feel sexy and comfortable. It’s about balance…..I’ve never cared about what’s in style unless what’s in style works for me and my frame. Try Urbanog.com, LuLus.com, GoJane.com and Piperlime.com for affordable, fashionable, PRACTICAL pieces, shoes included!

  8. Honey you better own it! Cause you can beat a face… love your make-up skills and fly girl style.

  9. Great makeup and she surely has flare with color.
I like that she’s not into heels and is still fashionable.

  10. What a GORGEOUS GIRL! I love her feminine, sassy style and she has beautiful skin! WERK!!

  11. I looove that purple blue dress up top and the yellow one where did you get them? Also your makeup looks great u r wearing that blue lipstick and i never woulda thought!!

    1. The purple/blue one as in the bandana style one?
And the yellow one w/ the creme lace top?
Thank you sooooooo much, blue lipstick is def living on the edge, lol

  12. I am like the plainest person when it comes to makeup…well in general. But ggggiiiiiiirrrrrrllllll, your photos got me thinking that I need laser yellow eyeliner and nude and pink lipsticks! I need you to make YouTube tutorials. Because your makeup is everything!

  13. I love your style and have to say you are the best when it comes to makeup. The Bohemian look fits you perfectly and looks great. As for your hair, I soooo wish I could wash and go… that is definitely my goal for the next few months. I am gonna figure it out! What an inspiration!!

    1. Hey Myesha!! Thank you so much!! Try it maybe once a week, and then once a month leave your conditioner in for an hour then rinse….you have to get your hair trained, that’s all

  14. She is gorgeous but there will be some die hard naturalist who assume just because she is natural she should keep her hair a natural colour ,because she is ‘trying’ to be white, the same natural Nazis that say a black women who straighten her natural hair in anyway or relaxes is trying to be white,
    Lmao

    1. Umm non of those nazi live here lol most of the style icons and natural icons have colored their hair on this site, but they have refrained from chemical straighteners

      1. But when one dyes their hair,it’s anyhing but natural..some say straigtening the hair is seen to emulate the euopean standard but to dye your hair hir blonde or other is anything but original because most black people are born with dark hair.

    2. Thank you!! But I’m def not trying to be anything but the fab black girl I am…..if I died my hair blue, does that mean I want to be a smurf? Def not

      1. Don’t worry I don’t think that way, just keep rocking whatever you can,as long its on your head, its your choice.

  15. Wow, def. gonna stop by your page for some makeup tips. I love the hair color too. Beautiful fashion. Love this.
