  1. SheaMoisture restorative conditioner for dry hair smells unusual and I need to find a replacement leave-in conditioner. I will also need to switch shampoo and conditioner because the smell is not working for me.

  2. i love love love aubrey organics honeysuckle rose shampoo and conditioner. and i love that the smell lingers even after a few days. its absolutely delish!
and coconut oil is another fave.

  3. Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque smells amazing!
but the curl enhancing smoothie smells sooo gross! it is such an overwhelming smell that it makes me gag! I actually threw up once from twisting my hair with it and having to smell it for four hours.

    1. OMG, I am SO glad you said this! Most people totally disagree, but I cannot stomach the scent of their Coconut Hibiscus products! Way too strong and sweet!

  4. One of the top things i love about being natural is giving up burnt hair smell for good smelling hair, my fave is karen body beautiful hair butter in mango lime..yum!!!

  5. most have already been said, but eco styler gel in the pink form. OMG! It smells like Sprite or Ginger Ale! When I first bought it, I smelled it off and on for a good two hours.

  6. My all-time favorite scent is Jane Carter Solutions Revitalizing Leave In Conditioner. OMGeee, what a delightful blend of citrus and vanilla-ish undertones. I spray this in my hair every doggone day…mmmmm!!!! 🙂

  7. Good smell

    Curls
    Darcys Peach Kernal

    gag inducing

Giovanni – hard to believe it’s natural
    Hairveda – all too strong
    Aubreys Organics – awful
Aveda Damage Ready – nasty licorice smell
    Darcys sweet cream

    ok

    Qhemets

A lot of the natural lines smell horrible, overly scented or medicinal. I don’t have access to Oyin, Karens, Bear Fruits, Shescentit etc etc

  8. Love the way Shea moisture’s Deep Conditioner smells!! It reminds me of vanilla cake batter for some reason and I used it as a moisturizes instead of a conditioner. People actually walk up and smell my hair lol

  9. Hmmm… I like the smell of homemade whipped shea butter (shea butter, EVO coconut oil, EVOO, and honey, Giovanni Weightless moisture leave in (smells like flowers and citrus), Suave’s Almond and Shea buttter (smells like flowers), and Tresemme moisture rich (also smells like flowers). 😀

  10. Karen’s Body Beautiful Hair Ambrosia in Vanilla Latte smells like HEAVEN. Or what I would imagine heaven would smell like. Seriously. Good stuff.

  11. Shea Moisture’s Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie & Raw Shea Restorative Masque
    CURLS Curl Creme Brulee
    HEHH
Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo & Conditioner
Aphogee Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor (Smells Like SMCHCES to me)

  12. i love aubrey organics honeysuckle rose. i like floral or citrus fragrances. i dont like food smells or sugary smells in hair or bath products. i know everyone else does. i dont like the smell of Curls shampoo or conditioner. ugh!! but i know that i am totally alone. i also cant use shea butter, because i constantly smell it throughout the day and it drives me nuts and make me feel like i smell too strong.

  13. My favorite is Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade!!! It smells like sugar. I like Curls Whipped Cream then Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercream.

  14. Am I the only one who sometimes doesnt want their hair to smell like an herbal garden? Lol. Not that it’s always a bad thing, but (w/ love) for me it becomes a little much. I love the way Mixed Chicks conditioner smells. The shampoo too.

  15. I love the smell of Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose… almost smells like a perfume… After I wash my hair the smell lingers for days, and I swear men are drawn to it…lol

  16. I like V05 Moisture Milks in “Strawberries Cream” with soy milk.
Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner
Africa Best Leave In Moisturizer smells like strawberries
    Carol Daughther’s Black Vanilla Shampoo

  17. I will have to say Afroveda has my favourite smells, although I haven’t purchased their products in a while. I use to like Shea moisture line but for some reason I got very sensitive to them and cannot handle the smell at all anymore.

  18. Darcy’s Botanicals products have very pleasant light and mild scents. Even their fragranced products (I have only tried vanilla) are not chemically or heavy smelling. I love love love them!

  19. omg yes! I love, love CD hair milk but just this week I thought I would write Lisa Price a letter asking her to reconsider the scent. As if she would care about one loner’s request. It gives my hair shine, moisture with no stickiness, everything I could ask for. But I hate, hate the uber-strong fragrance. I’m often embarrassed when hugging friends and family that they would sniff the funky smell of my hair milk. The healthy hair butter has a more neutral scent- maybe she would consider this? A fave youtuber just made a video on oyin’s hair dew. any reviews??

  20. KBB Chamommile Sage
    KBB Egyptian Musk
    KBB Vanilla Latte
    KBB Lavender Vanilla
Curl Junkie Curl Rehab Strawberry Ice Cream
Curl Junkie Deep Fix Hibiscus Banana Strawberry
    Oyin Handmade Burnt Sugar Pomade
    Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner
    Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries
    Oyin Handmade Whipped Pudding
    Miss Jessie’s Super Sweetback Treatment
    HairVeda Almond Glaze
    Qhemet Biologics Amala Oil

    1. I love KBB’s vanilla late, pomegranate guava, and cranberry cocktail.. unfortunately with their recent price hike and product reduction I do not plan to re-purchase anything from them.

  21. i’m 6 months into transitioning and i luv carols daughter hair milk for daily moisturiaing, but i would love it sooooo much more if it didnt have such a strong scent. you can smell it forever after you put it in. its like a 3 foot halo of scent all around you. i would luv a suggestion on something similar with NO scent.

  22. Oyin Handmade Burnt Sugar Pomade
    Afroveda Cocolatte Moisture Mask
    Afroveda Pur Whipped Jelly
    SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus
Koils By Nature Mango Hair and Body Butter

  23. I gravitate to anything that has a long herbal ingredient section in its list of ingredients, and if it smells good, even better. That’s how I decided to try Nature’s Gate Daily Herbal conditioner. To me it has a rather exotic smell, and I like it as much for the scent as for the slip. When I made a moisturizing spritz last year during the summer, I used this conditioner as one of the ingredients purely for the scent. Mmmmmm, wonderful :-)!

  24. I like blended Beauty Curyl Styling butter. And Miss Jessie’s baby butter

And something about the mixture of rosemary and lavender get me going. That :herbaly” smell

    🙂

  25. Shea Moisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus line
I also mix some of my own products too and one of the EOs I love is lemongrass. Yummy goodness!

    1. I cosign. Shea Moisture products smell great. I’m now using the moisture retention shampoo and the curl enhancing smoothie.

  26. I actually have a few hair stalkers- they follow the delicious scent of my hair.

The Curls Creme Brule leave-in and shea moisture’s coconut and hibiscus line are the most popular.

I also get a lot of compliments on my Healthy Sexy Hair Pumpkin leave-in, but it makes my hair crunchy.

I want to get some of this burnt sugar stuff people have been talking about.

And I did love the smell of Carol Daughters Black Vanilla Spray, but it did nothing. I put a few drops of vanilla extract and honey in my water spritz and that’s close enough for me.

  27. I have to say my favorite is brown water in a bottle, aka Carols Daughter Black Vanilla Leave In Conditioner. Once I accepted the fact that it does absolutely nothing for my hair, I just started using it for what I call puff perfume. I mist my twistouts and wash n go’s before I leave the house and I am always complimented on the scent. My boyfriend even commented that the smell helps him sleep, its like hairomatherapy! (cuz it dang sho aint a conditioner. lol)

    1. LOLOL!! I think I’m gonna have to borrow that one “brown water in a bottle”. It doesn’t do anything for my hair either, except make it smell nice. I have the Tui leave in…

  28. I must say, Darcys Botanicals Natural Coils Curling Jelly,
and the Oyin Handmade Whipped pudding,
    Then Herbal Essences Hello Hydration,
THEN plain old coconut oil. Im a smeller lol.

  29. Emma I hear you. Some people are really sensitive to scents and fragrance oils. One natural hair company that shall remain nameless had the most terrible, smokey, corner store incense smells to their products. The products weren’t bad, but the scents were so strong they were obviously using inexpensive fragrance additives. Those can be irritating for us with sensitive skin, allergies, and noses!

I vote for Oyin because to me they have pleasant, but very mild scents. Personally I don’t want to smell my hair all day. That would bother me. Oyin is pleasant to put on, but the fragrance fades nicely into the background quick!

  30. Bee Mine: bee loved hair & scalp moisturizer
Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia in pomergrante & guava scent
    Trader Joe’s Nurish Spa Conditioner

  31. My fave smells are EVCO and my shea butter/aloe vera gel/honey mix. Sometimes, I smell them for fun. 🙂

  32. Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries, hands down. If all my hair products smelled like this, I wouldn’t complain.

    1. I really like that smell too. Reminds me of Fruity Pebbles 🙂
I don’t like the products though

  33. I actually don’t like scents. I use scent free hand wash, body wash, clothes detergent, dryer sheets…scent free as much as I can!

so one day I hope that there is a scent-free hair line. idk If i’m a loner on this point, but I like to be odorless. however I like others to smell delicious! lol

        1. Try raw shea butter, very little to no scent. And that can be used as your moisturizer and hair butter.

        2. Or you can try making your own stuff using all natural products. Shea butter, aloe gel, sweet almond oil, vegetable glycerin and castor oil. All great natural products for hair with little to no scent at all. I have bad allergies so that’s what I do, and if I want scent, a few drops of lemon or lavender essential oils do it for me.

  34. Hands down, Oyin Handmade, especially the Burnt Sugar Pomade, Whipped Pudding, Honey Hemp Conditioner, and Greg Juice (which I prefer over Juices and Berries, although neither smells bad).

As far as things I can buy out the grocery store, coconut oil is the clear winner.

  35. I agree that the SheaMoisture products smell good. Same with MyHoneyChild products, Fleurtzy’s Healthy Hair Butter, and Dr. Wood’s Shea Vision Liquid Black Soap.

  36. Just one?! lol Bee Mine Products smell amazing. I also love the smell of Kinky Curly Curling Custard, oh I CAN’T forget Curls products. Just to name a few. 🙂

  37. i have to say SheaMoisture smells good, much better then it actually worked for me. Donna Marie products smell like cakey goodness. and anything labelled Cocoa Mango (i’m looking at you, Oyin) is a winner in my book.
