Often times black women feel left out of the hugely influential princess culture that Disney has created. But Summer Arlexis, a blogger for Bustle.com, took up the task of recreating 8 styles from some of Disney’s most popular princesses. She shared her reasoning behind the project;
“On a normal day, I’d probably think there was no way I could imitate Disney princess hair. I usually don’t enjoy styling my own hair, plus none of them were exactly rocking Senegalese twists like me. Then I thought, why not? If Tiana could kiss a slimy frog (gross!) and Ariel could trust a horrid octopus (kudos to Ursula for understanding the power of a little black dress), then Summer Arlexis could give her twists a makeover, Disney princess style! After all, if my girl Poca and the kick-ass Mulan could break a few stereotypes, then so could I.”
This is interesting considering we recently discussed a 4-year-old who felt that she couldn’t be a princess because she wore braids. Check out some of the looks she created…

Love, Love, Love! I love the creativity, the motivation, and the end results! I will be forwarding to my sister for inspiration if she ever needs to style my niece’s hair for a costume or anything…minus a costume the hairstyles are still awesome
