6 Places to Buy Chic African Clothing Online

After we posted about 50 Fabulous Modern Ways To Wear African Fabric, we got a lot of questions about where people could buy ready-made designs, so we’ve identified a few spots – with different price ranges – that will hopefully get you on the right foot with your African fashion!

Quick tip: measure yourself and double check the measurements before buying an African design online – if unsure, size up so you can get it taken in to custom fit your body!

Zuvaa

Zuvaa

Zuvaa is an online space that sells creations by various designers around the world who create African inspired pieces. With an easy sort feature that allows you to show by clothing style, occasion, or material, and items that range from as little as $9 to up to $270, you can be sure to find at least one article of clothing, pair of shoes, or accessory that fits your aesthetic. Though not vast, they even have a plus size shop with some tops, dresses, and shorts! Just keep in mind that Zuvaa acts as the middle man between you and the designers, so your clothes may be shipped from within the U.S. or from another country.

The African Shop

Grass Fields

The African Shop is an incredibly popular online inspiration source for ankara and other African fabrics, and they also sell designs on their website, Grass Fields. Maxi skirts average $120, midi skirts range from $75-$90, the limited dress selection is $130, and trousers are $100.

Nubian Hueman

Nubian Hueman

Nubian Hueman, a boutique based in Washington, DC, also has an online store with a surprisingly large assortment of African printed fitted hats for just $28. They also sell duffel bags, jewelry, socks, and home decor, and while their clothing selection is limited, the prices don’t go above the $200 mark.

Ohema Ohene

If you’re down to pay shipping from the UK, and if you’re looking for menswear as well as women’s African clothing, then Ohema Ohene is the perfect place for you. This designer has numerous trendy, bold pieces for both men and women, as well as super cute hi and low top shoes in African prints that are sure to turn heads wherever you go!

Nakimuli

Nakimuli isn’t an African clothing seller, per say, but creator Tennille McMillan is known for including African print heavily throughout her designs. From capes to jackets to dresses to skirts, bold and colorful African prints are one of McMillan’s trademarks. Leggings sell for as low as $35, skirts are in the $100 range and coats and capes are $145 and up.

Etsy

Etsy African Clothing

Last but not least, there are quite a few sellers on Etsy advertising African prints. To ensure full satisfaction, make sure you get the full measurements of the item – African clothing is usually custom made and not mass produced, and sizing can vary greatly across designers. Some shops to check out include Lili’s Creations and Zabba Designs, but if you have personal recommendations, please leave them in the comments!

So much for supporting my black sistas…
