5 Men with Crushworthy Natural Hair

Although this is Black Girl Long Hair, we have to quickly acknowledge all the fellas out there who are proudly representing for the male side of the natural hair movement! Check out these five guys’ and their regimens for loose, luscious hair.

Wolfgang Lisborg

Wolfgang

Leading the guy pack in length, West African natural man, Wolfgang has been quickly gaining ground as a full participant in the online natural hair world. (He was even a BGLH style icon in November 2013!) Interestingly enough, he co-washes his hair daily with Tresemme conditioner, but prevents it from drying out by using coconut oil to seal. Aside from co-washing daily, another natural hair “rule” that Wolfgang breaks with his hair routine is that he brushes his hair regularly into a banded ponytail to fake a blowout. A hobbyist photographer, Wolfgang takes awesome Instagram pics of his curls and coils.

Narada

Narada

You may have come across AfrikanHairGod on YouTube at some point in your late night marathon sessions, because Narada has been making videos for quite some time. He’s been growing his hair since 2008, and has mastered all possible natural hair styles – from flat twists, to bantu knots, to braids and twists with extensions. He washes bi-weekly, moisturizes with water, oil, leave-in, and a butter. He then stretches his hair in chunky braids. Narada is actually pursuing a cosmetology degree now, so if you’re in the ATL area, he can hook you up!

Franklin Terry

Franklin’s long curls have to stay popping because he’s a model and actor! He also works as a production assistant, and supported Kim Kimble while she was doing hair for BET’s The Game several years ago. To keep his hair soft and shiny, Frank washes and conditions it every other week using a combination of Shea Moisture and Kim Kimble products, as well as coconut oil. Frank also sleeps on a satin pillow case to protect his hair (wouldn’t it be awesome if all guys agreed to sleep on satin pillow cases?!)

Abraham Tomo Jr.

 Abraham

After going through a series of hair transitions, including a permed mohawk, Abraham began growing out his hair in 2011. Now he pre-poos with coconut oil, deep conditions with Shea Moisture Purification Masque, rinses with apple cider vinegar and uses Giovanni conditioners and leave-ins to round out the regimen. Abe also has a shea butter company called Love Shea, and their airy, whipped shea butter cream can be used on both skin and hair.

Jor-El

Jor-El

The man behind the Mane Man blog, Jor-El, started growing his hair out in 2009 out of curiosity; at a time he began reflecting on his racial identity. To keep his mane manly, he shampoos his hair weekly, deep conditions, detangles with a wide tooth comb or his fingers, adds a leave in conditioner and finishes off by raking and then scrunching a styling aid throughout his hair. Though he did a mini chop this past spring, Jor-el’s blog is a great resource for information on men’s grooming,

Do you think the natural hair movement should make more room for men? Are there any other natural haired guys out there that can inspire us?

  1. So good to see my old friend from college, Franklin Terry, getting the spotlight. He’s had this hair for years! Awesome. #WSSU

  2. I think we should include them..because our hair journey has inspired some of them to begin their own. My man is growing his hair out now and I’m loving it! So excited lol..

  3. Loving that feature, beautiful head of hair, some men are giving us a run for our money lol!

  4. I really enjoyed this spotlight. Would like to see more guys with long natural hair that isn’t loced. I have an 18 month old son and I am allowing his hair to grow out. There really isn’t much male inspiration in the natural hair community. I am hoping this changes. Beautiful hair, fellas!
