  1. I was just thinking the same exact thing. Is that boxer braid issue still blowing up with black outrage or are we now cool since cultures have always borrowed from each other? Greeks had Zeus, Romans liked it enough and called him Jupiter. Greeks weren’t crying appropriation.

  2. I am adding these and any Black Owned clothing stores to my app Bobspotter! Its Yelp for Black Owned Businesses. You can download it in Apple and Google Play app stores, go to the E Stores tab and see the online stores listed so far! If you are a store owner be sure to go to http://www.bobspotter.com and submit your businesses info so I can input it!

  3. As an African, it’d be nice if they put the countries from which they are from though. These prints don’t represent all of Africa. Only the west, which is the most popular part aside from Egypt

    1. I definitely understand that. I just think calling it cultural appropriation is too far.

  4. Shameless cultural appropriation.

Furthermore, “African-inspired”? There is no ONE “African culture”. This is disrespectful towards the countless cultures found in Africa.

If you weren’t raised in an African country, stick to your own culture.

    1. I’m not sure that you can claim cultural appropriation in this instance. Obviously, many understand that there certainly more that one culture found within Africa.

    2. You missed the point, we were forcibly disconnected from our true cultures, don’t get mad at us for trying our best to reconnect with what our ancestors were forced to forget. All we know is that most of us in America came from West Africa and this is just a form of paying homage to our ancestors and to ourselves.

    3. Yet I bet you wear blue jeans and t-shirts. Stop with all the bs. Cultures have always shared and borrowed. That’s life.

    4. Nicole, relax. This is why as black people we can’t have nice things. Isn’t it enough that people want to celebrate their roots? As an African, I’m actually happy that there is a modern take on these outfits. Even Europeans take aspects of their historical cultures and base all their modern designs on that. So please take a chill pill.

    5. There is nothing wrong with Black people wearing African print. I do feel like you’re over-reaching.Especially since a lot of the designers are African. I’m Congolese and this doesn’t bother me at all. Of Course, there are certain cloths that are important, but most of them aren’t.

    6. Stop being petty and aggressive. People worldwide are wearing Western clothing and as a result the Western fashion industry is making billions. How is it appropriation if African designers are making the clothes and profiting from it? Attitudes like yours will only hold them back from a wider market and allow western fashion houses to truly appropriate now that these AFRICAN design are becoming more popular

    7. I completely disagree with the original poster and I’m African. However, I find it interesting that commentators here are saying cultures can be shared and borrowed so flippantly but will be singing a completely different tune if Kylie Jenner wears cornrows

    8. Nobody attacks an Irish-American for adopting a Gaelic accent and learning Irish dance. That is how people reconnect to cultures they have been separated from. The reaction should be more like, “Welcome back, lost brothers and sisters!”

  5. You forgot to add Dupsies.com. They cater to everyone some of my cutest and favorite outfits come from there
