1. Has anyone ever asked themselves why there isn’t the equivalent of this in the male population? No large/big/obese/whatever you want to name it men trussing themselves up to look ‘sexy’ and seeking validation through how ‘appealing’ they rate themselves; more importantly how ‘appealing/sexy’ others rate them to boost their self confidence! Imagine a list of photos uploaded by men declaring themselves beer-bellied and hot/babe-magnets! This just screams desperation and being beholden to others, principally men.

3. The girls are indeed pretty but I do question the wisdom of celebrating obesity. If they were a healthy weight they would be gorgeous!

   2. Oh my God people like you seriously give me a headache. 1. They’re gorgeous as they are now. 2. Health is extremely dependent on an individual’s lifestyle. Of course when you get into the 300+ that starts to get real shaky. 3. What is wrong with celebrating these beautiful women? It’s not a celebration of “obesity”. It’s a celebration of women who are yes obese but slay. We celebrate them because they still have the confidence and resilience to be their gorgeous selfs when a good majority of he world tells them to not bother as if we don’t need them. They’re gorgeous, they slay, they work, their fierce, and I celebrate them. I celebrate ALL of them as they are.

      Back handed compliments are not compliments. Promoting a healthy lifestyle does not require this.

      1. I think too many of us are trying to be ‘pc’ when it comes to weight. How many people here posting positive comments would choose to be the size of these women? There is a real problem with African-American women and obesity – just google it. We are not doing these women or our community any favours by ‘celebrating’ black women who you admit are obese. Let’s show that African-American women can be both health conscious and gorgeous at the same time. What’s wrong with that?

         1. I’d be ridiculous to say that they weren’t obese. I’m not blind. Being accepting of people regardless of their weight and being able to pay them compliments when they are deserving of them and not insulting them in the same breath is not being politically correct it’s just being a decent person.

            Obesity is not just a problem within “African American women” cut that out. Obesity is a major problem in general within the United States. Read up on your statistics before spreading incorrect information.

            There is a place and time for everything. There are tons of places to spread awareness on healthy habits. That’s not even what you did. All you did was blatantly say okay you’re cute but you’re too big, lose weight and you’ll be gorgeous. How is that promoting health consciousness?

            If you want to put down random people on the internet go right ahead. But the rest of us will celebrate them cause they deserve it.

   3. I wouldn’t say they’re not gorgeous, because so many are. They are also mostly obese though clearly, and very brave of you to call it – it’s the elephant in the room everyone seems to be skirting around. Everyone wants to feel good about themselves, yes; that doesn’t mean calling ‘up’ ‘down’ or obese healthy though. So many examples exist of celebs who were declaring themselves big and proud or similar, only to confess they hated being that size when they’ve finally found a way to get to a healthier weight and enjoy the benefits of that. Wild horses couldn’t drag such honesty out of them whilst they were big though. Figure that.
