Whipped Shea Butter for Lip Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation has been an issue for me since I was young. Eczema, sensitive skin, and living in a very sunny/humid place definitely didn’t help either. I was prescribed countless creams, lotions, and a lot of crap that quite frankly didn’t work. They only managed my hyperpigmentation but never actually healed it.

One of the greatest things I’ve done for the hyperpigmentation above my lip is stop using witch hazel as a toner. When I told one of my aunts my skincare routine, she almost cussed me out. She reminded me that certain products are terrible for sensitive skin, witch hazel being one of them! Also, I noticed sometimes the area would sting after I applied the witch hazel toner. It didn’t happen often so I didn’t stress about it. But I should’ve listened to my skin! Anything that irritates your skin, even a tiny bit, is not good for your skin. Do me a favor: Throw it away expeditiously.

Y’all I gotta be honest, I got so tired of the sunscreen convos! People talking about how it’s so important, how you need a certain SPF, and how you MUST use it daily. Even though I was hating for no reason, these tips are correct! ESPECIALLY for people with hyperpigmentation and sensitive skin.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the sun! It’s one of my favorite things about Mother Nature. But my hyperpigmentation doesn’t do well with harsh sunlight. This is why I put sunscreen on every morning now. Rain or shine, cold or warm, no matter what! Even if your inside most of the time, still put on sunscreen! You’ll see a difference in your hyperpigmentation as long as you stay consistent.

Last but most certainly not least, moisturizer! Dry skin + hyperpigmentation = hot mess. Trust me, I know from experience! You have to keep your skin moisturized with a lightweight, natural, preferably fragrance-free moisturizer. I say fragrance-free because sometimes certain fragrances can further irritate your skin. But if you know you usually don’t have a reaction to fragrances, natural fragrances are fine.

BGLH whipped butters have been a godsend for my hyperpigmentation! And I’m not just saying that because it’s my favorite moisturizer. It only takes a little to moisturize the area above my lip. I like to add a a layer of BGLH whipped butter after the sunscreen layer. I typically apply BGLH only on the noticeably drier areas of my face. You can usually tell by your skin peeling or looking kind of chalky in that area. Remember, a little goes a long way! Be careful not to put too much to avoid breakouts or oily skin.

Believe it or not, all of these items are less than $50! My new toner is made up of simply two ingredients: rose water and glycerin. This can be purchased for no more than $11-$14. My favorite sunscreen ever is SPF 30 (approved by my dermatologist) and less than $10. Lastly, BGLH has a sample sized 0.9 oz butter for $7! And you don’t need to order a lot because it’s just for your face!
