We really need to spread the word about BGLH Marketplace products, so my first plan was to contact Instagram influencers. Then I thought, “Why!? When so many of our customers are beautiful, articulate, good with social media and already love us!”
So we’re building a team of in-house influencers!
First up is Portia. She was a writer for my natural hair blog Black Girl with Long Hair, which gave me the idea for BGLH Marketplace!

“Hi there, I’m Portia! I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m obsessed with beauty and skincare products (I probably own too many!)”
Writing for Black Girl with Long Hair was the most fun work I’ve ever done, so I’m thrilled to be back as a content creator for BGLH Marketplace.
Once my work with Black Girl with Long Hair came to an end in 2018, I decided to stick around to see what else Leila had up her sleeve. Up until that time, I hadn’t purchased any BGLH Marketplace products despite using shea butter daily.
My first purchase was a sampler pack of whipped shea butter. I also purchased raw shea butter for my hair (I was a loose natural then). I expected the butters to be like the rest I’ve tried – once you’ve tried one, you’ve tried them all, right? Wrong!
I used the Lavender Whipped Shea Butter right after a long bath in lavender essential oils and y’all… I think I actually slipped into a coma when my head hit the pillow that night. After that amazing experience I decided to make BGLH Marketplace products a part of my daily routine.
I continued to use the butters in my hair, on my son’s hair, and on my skin. I had family members buying the butters after they felt how soft my skin was! Now that my hair is loc’ed, I still use the butters for a little shine. I even use them to reduce irritation from shaving my legs. BGLH Marketplace keeps my legs smooth and bump free.
The quality and longevity of the butters is outstanding. I actually haven’t used any quite like them and that’s saying a lot because I’m always picking up the latest skincare product.
As an African American woman, I believe in standing behind quality and ethical black-owned brands like BGLH Marketplace. I’m looking forward to picking up where I left off!”
Stay tuned to meet the rest of our in-house influencer team and check out the content they create!
