Back in February 2018 a BGLH Marketplace customer named Jessica was visiting Qwik Meds, a black-owned pharmacy here in Brooklyn. The pharmacy owner, Shileen Jefferson, shared that her clientele was looking for effective natural moisturizers but she was having trouble finding them. Jessica happened to have a Whipped Cocoa Butter in her purse and shared it with Shileen, who wanted to learn more, so a few weeks later I packed up some samples and headed to Qwik Meds.
After testing the butters Shileen placed her first order on the spot! I dropped it off a few days later.
Weeks passed, then months and I didn’t hear anything from Shileen. I concluded that Qwik Meds’ had chosen not to re-stock. I was disappointed, but grateful for the experience.
Then I got a call from Shileen. As I’d guessed she had initially chosen not to re-stock. But her customers had other ideas. For weeks they hounded her, asking when our butters would be back in stock. One customer in particular said that our Sandalwood and Bergamot Blended Butter was the only thing helping her grow out her hair.
Shileen placed another order twice the size of her previous one and BGLH Marketplace butters now have the largest display in QwikMeds’ natural products section — a black owned skincare brand featured in a black owned pharmacy.

We are so glad to be back in Qwik Meds (visit them at 159 Ralph Ave!) And a shout out to Jessica for making all this happen! Our customers truly are the best!! ❤
