This past week we informed you of the racist comments sparked by MAC Cosmetics’ of a black model’s lips on Instagram.
Now black women online are uniting with the #PrettyLipsPeriod tag to celebrate the beauty of black features on black women. The social media campaign is the brainchild of Dr. Yaba Blay and Thembisa Mshaka.
Black women were encouraged to take a selfie of their lips with the hashtag #PrettyLipsPeriod and upload it to either Instagram or Twitter. It wasn’t long after that many joined in #PrettyLipsPeriod to lend their support.
Gorgeous! Ladies, share your pictures below.
Go on ahead with that full pout.
Nothing but envy coming from the hater camp.
Look at my beautiful sisters with their big natural sexy lips ..Those ugly ass neanderthal cave beast wish they had…It was always envy and jealousy.
The perfect clapback to the same idiots making those derogatory comments earlier! I bet they’re the ones getting those ‘Kylie Lip Kits’ or collagen lip injections!

Beautiful women indeed. But what have we to prove to anyone? I
I think the post is a very healthy and perfect response. It’s nice to take time to simply reflect on why you love being you when someone has attempted to tear you down. It’s about us, not anyone else. We get to celebrate the beauty of our sensuously full lips with gorgeous lip selfies, which is a great pleasure, no matter the original circumstances. 🙂 Now we’re just having fun making these and looking, so we win.
BTW, the gold lips are my favorite. Is there a tutorial??

Yes, that’s true. But many black women who do face rejection for them. Your lips are beautiful no matter what!
I am so glad that black women are embracing what makes them beautiful despite being shunned for what others have downgraded them for. Stay up, my sisters!

I don’t think the hashtag should be pretty lips period. I think it should include the word “black” in the hashtag. It’s not a crime to celebrate the beautiful features black women have, so long as those features are on white women. They are an insecure race of narcissists… It’s only a crime to celebrate the beauty of a feature, if that feature is on black females, because insecure whites do not like competition. They get jealous of your features, and then mimic it to keep themselves in the spot light for traits that aren’t even natural to them on… Read more »
Some of y’all are out here with lips lookin’ like open wounds and think you can call ours ugly?? Go back to overlining your plastic injected lips and miss me with that.
I said the same damn thing just nasty looking
Nice pair off full lips on a women is always a welcoming sight in my opinion. The only people who would feel otherwise, are folks with lips so thin, it looks like they don’t have lips at all.
Well I’m a dark skin black woman and I don’t have big lips but I’ll post a picture anyway. I do have nice full medium sized lips.
