Style: Rasheta in Florida

IMG_7455

Introduce yourself!
R:
Hello! My name is Rasheta Cannon and I like to consider myself a southern belle from the lovely state of Florida. I am a Registered Nurse and have been since 2004. I am a Captain in the Air Force and I work in an Oncology Center where I treat cancer patients. I absolutely love it!

What is your style philosophy?
R:
My style philosophy is to wear what you want and wear what makes you feel good! If you want to go check the mail in 5” stilettos by golly go for it! Style is so personal and you just have to make it your own and do what you feel. I personally love to wear high heels and wearing them makes me feels oh so sexy.

How would you describe your sense of style?
R:
I’d describe my sense of style as very versatile. I can be classy and conservative one day and showing midriff and thighs the next. It all depends on how I feel that day and where I am going. I definitely dress for the occasion. I love to change up my style and try new things. One of my fav looks to date is a vintage 1940’s inspired look. I adore anything from that era.

What is the process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
R:
Being that I am in the military I pretty much cannot pick what I wear on a daily basis. When I am at work I am in uniform or in scrubs. I have all my fun on the weekends with my wardrobe.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
R:
My current three favorite items in my closet are my afrocentric earrings, which are shaped like afro picks. I purchased those from Rachel Stewart Jewelry at Rachelstewart.bigcartel.com and I wear them ALL the time. Second would have to be my afrocentric African print pants, which I purchased from Asos.com, and lastly my tan hat, which was given to me by one of my patients.

What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
R:
I love shopping online and I purchase the majority of my clothes there. Some of my favorite sites include Asos.com, Forever 21.com, Nastygal.com and Bebe.com, Lilyskloset.com, and Rachelstewart.bigcartel.com.

How long have you been natural?
R:
I have been natural since 2002.

How and why did you transition into natural hair?
R:
I didn’t get a perm until my sophomore year in high school. Before I got a perm my hair was about bra strap length and healthy. I used to get my hair straightened twice a month and never experienced any damage from that. Once I got a perm the health of my hair was ruined and it was never the same. During nursing school I decided to grow my perm out. I didn’t know WHAT I was going to do with my hair, but I KNEW that I was never getting a perm again.

I basically wore wigs and weaves during my transition. I never knew how to take care of my natural hair so I never wore it out or revealed my hair to anyone. A little over a year ago I discovered YouTube and learned so much from fellow naturals. I learned everything I needed to know to start my healthy hair journey and have had much success since!

What is your signature hairstyle?
R:
My signature style is rocking a wild afro. You can see me coming a mile away! I feel the most beautiful when my hair is wild and free.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
R:
During the week I keep my hair in two strand twists and keep it pinned up. I do this for two reasons. First I have to be conservative because of the military, and second I like to keep my ends protected during the week and not manipulate my hair so much. The products I use include Shea Moisture products (Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Deep Conditioners), Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner and Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner, Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner, Jamaican black castor oil, organic coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. I co-wash weekly as well as deep condition and do a hot oil treatment and steam my hair weekly.

  1. You are absolutely beautiful. I am finally starting to love myself because of u….embracing urself, curves and all. I just have one simple request….where did u purchase that yellow dress? I would soooooo love one a those

  2. Hi Rasheta, I think you, your hair, and that body is a problem! (In a good way lol) Not to mention, I’m loving your style too! You serve as an inspiration for women in the military, that they can still be fly off the clock too. I’m aspiring going into the air force actually and I want to know how did you take care (styling, regimen, etc) of your hair during Basic Training and so forth? Whatever knowledge you have, I’d love to hear from you, coming from one natural to another!

  3. Rasheta please do you have a twitter or facebook page? Your body is amazing! Your hair is amazing! Your style is off the hook!

  4. Talk about inspiration!! Your hair is fierrrrrrrrrrrrrrrceee! I absolutely love it! Your body is on point and it made me want to run to the nearest gym ASAP!

  5. OMG. Ur hair is sooo beautiful. I love the fact that u hav so much style even tho u work in the army. U go girl

    1. The second Kay is a different person. My comment is from 7:53pm. It is a tad different because from Eric’s words you can assume he is making a suggestive and sexual comment as opposed to the other Kay who is taking note in Rasheta’s physical health which she is probably interested in achieving herself. Essentially the other Kay is not the one being a creep

    1. LOL!! Thank You! I workout at least 3x’s/week that that consists of abt 25 min of cardio, and, legs and arms.I’m also a Pescatarian so I dnt eat meat, seafood only.

  6. Your lovely body’s like a curvy mocha rollercoaster.
Gimme a ticket and, never say the ride is over.
Or better yet, gimme a life long pass instead.
Until your every little curve’s seared into my head.

    1. I don’t think this is the place for all of that. This is a blog about hair, not the objectification of women’s bodies.

  7. AMAZING!! Perfect example that us military women can still look fly, sophisticated & beautiful and still serve our country.
    -fellow Airmen 🙂

  8. Your style is truly unique and compliments you well. Someone somewhere would be crazy not to place you on a cover magazine. Stay gorgeous and I’m looking forward to seeing you on TV girlfriend!!!!

  9. You are a BEAUTY and I absolutely love everything about your style! It’s fun, colourful, eclectic, chic, madcap elegance and sophistication all rolled into one. You have fun with your style and it definitely shows…keep rocking it OUT, girl!
