Alyssa here!
Is that my hyperpigmentation?
Yes, yes it is. Well, in my case, it *was*! The viral hyperpigmentation video (click here to watch) not only had me cracking up, but also reflecting on my own hyperpigmentation journey. My skin has come such a long way, and I’m incredibly grateful to see the progress. Hyperpigmentation is something many people struggle with, and honestly, it can make you want to hide. But you don’t have to hate your skin or hide your beautiful self. What your skin truly needs is more TLC.
I’ve dealt with eczema and hyperpigmentation since I was very young, mostly in what I called my “hotspots.” These were the areas where my skin issues were most noticeable. For me, eczema appeared below my head, while hyperpigmentation showed up above it—primarily around my mouth and, at times, on my neck. I never knew what would trigger a flare-up, but the signs were always clear: uneven skin tone, itchy or irritated skin, and an immediate hit to my confidence.
My hyperpigmentation bothered me so much that I started using filters to alter my skin tone in photos. My dark spots felt glaringly obvious to me, and I assumed that if *I* noticed them, others would too. One day, I decided to stop hiding behind filters and commit to making an actual change. That’s when I discovered BGLH Marketplace. Around the same time, I also started seeing a dermatologist who created a skincare routine tailored to my needs. I can’t stress this enough: if you’re dealing with skin issues that make you feel insecure, *please* see a dermatologist.
Transparency moment: it took a few tries before my dermatologist found something that worked for my skin. Like so many things in life, it was a process of trial and error.
During those tough times, I was incredibly thankful for BGLH’s whipped shea butter. Anytime a new product irritated my skin or caused stinging, the whipped shea butter was my saving grace. I’d apply a small amount to the irritated areas, and my skin would feel instantly soothed and moisturized. Since I was using it on my face, I made sure to apply it sparingly, and I never experienced issues with oiliness or acne.

Now, hyperpigmentation is the least of my worries, and I feel so much more confident in my skin. The progress is visible! While I haven’t reached my ultimate skin goals yet, my skin is far better than where it started, and for that, I’m beyond grateful.
P.S. – Always do a patch test to make sure the ingredients in the whipped butter work well with your skin and won’t cause any facial breakouts. If you experience any issues, consider trying one of the body oils instead. They’re lighter and have a very low likelihood of triggering breakouts.
