Where do you live?
A: I currently reside in North Carolina, but I rep the small town of Greenwood, SC all day! It is safe to say that I am a Southern Belle lol.

What do you do?
A: By day, I work for one of the major financial institutions in the U.S., but by night (and all in between) I am a freelance makeup artist, model, and vlogger. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and minored in Sport & Entertainment Management at The University of South Carolina (so does not correlate with my day job. I know). I also dibble and dabble in styling. I guess I’m somewhat of a “Jack of all trades”!

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
A: Now I definitely thought I was the last person to ever sport a fro. I owe my decision to go natural to the Recession. Around that time I was fresh out of college and started to reevaluate my frequent salon visits. It was becoming a bit pricey and groceries were more important. The need for change is always present and I wanted my hair to look different from everyone else’s. I decided I would forgo the relaxer, but I had every intention of keeping my hair flat ironed. After searching for styles across YouTube, I saw that natural hair was actually dope and decided to go for it! Plus, no one else would have my hair.

When and how did you transition into natural hair?
A: Micro braids were my savior during my transition. I transitioned in January of 2009 for 7 months, followed by the big chop in October 2009.

In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
A: Well I must say that going natural has been a lovely ride. Rocking a short curly crop forces you to become confident. It’s a good feeling to be able to inspire others just by being you.

How would you describe your hair?
A: Kinky to say the least! My hair is kinky and coily. I have medium to fine strands, and a coarse patch at the top of my head. There is a section of silky hair at the nape of my neck. The sides are cottony. Usually no matter how I style my hair, if humidity is in play it ends up being a coily fro. It’s also getting floppy as it grows.

What is your regimen?
A: My regimen has become fairly simple. Weekly or when needed, I shampoo my hair with a sulfate free shampoo. I usually use Huetiful’s shampoo because of the awesome tingling effect. If I have a ton of buildup I clarify with Apple Cider Vinegar. I then use Tresseme’ Naturals to detangle while in the shower. After every shampoo I steam my hair using Lustrasilk Cholesterol and the Huetiful Hair Steamer.

About once a month I will add a protein deep conditioner using Rapunzel Protein Deep Conditioner. I then proceed to style my hair using Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream. I love this moisturizer because my hair stays moisturized for days! I will usually pump up my coils with Qhemet Biologics Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm. I always tie my hair with a satin scarf and sleep on a satin pillowcase.

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
A: It is so important to find the right moisturizers for YOUR HAIR TYPE! My hair type is very prone to breakage, but can be weighed down easily, so finding that balance is imperative. I also must re-twist my hair at night. It stays moisturized and stretched, which leads to fewer tangles. Lastly, monitoring the amounts of protein in my products is a must if I want healthy hair. Too much can lead to breakage.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
A: Re-twisting my hair at night saves me from hair disasters in the morning. It’s truly a must for me or I will have a dry, lopsided fro.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
A: I can be located on YouTube at www.youtube.com/LethalPleazure
I’ve also started to utilize my Tumblr page https://lethalpleazure.tumblr.com

Anything else you want to add?
A: One of the most important things you can do in life is to be who YOU ARE. No matter if people love it or hate it, you have to be comfortable with the choices that you make and the way in which you live your life. Speak life and power, be bold and beautiful. I dare you to live!

  1. Lovely!! I checked out your Youtube page after reading your feature on BGLH, and I couldn’t get enough of the vid when you were flexin’ your urban twists. Get ’em girl! I wanted to know what type of hair (synthetic or human) did they use for that style. What was your maintenance routine with the twists? Were you able to keep them in for a while? Thanks so much! Keep it up!

    1. lol! Girl I just loved those darn Urbans! The hair was synthetic. I sprayed my hair at least once a day with water and added Knot Today as a light leave in (just a little).I washed them every week. I actually could have kept them longer than I actually did..maybe for at least 3 months. I really enjoyed that hairstyle.

  2. hey it seems my previous post didn’t go through. i basically said i used to think it was funny when people were excited to have found a hair twin but now i can see how cool it is to find someone who has hair similar to yours. your hair and energy are inspiring! great photos!

    1. Thanks Darling!! I love it when I find a hair twin! It can be sooo helpful! lol. THanks for the kind words ;o)

  3. You look GREAT Amanda!! Funny how so many of us started going natural right after college. USC was straight hair/weave central while we were there! Wish this all had started while we were still in undergrad so we could’ve all supported each other. And of course… GO COCKS!!! 🙂

  4. Glad to see a natural representing SC. Was wondering if she works for the same major financial institution I work that’s based out of Charlotte. Go Gamecocks!

          1. The one going through a major merger with a West Coast financial institution.

  5. Wow. A great beauty. And I love the last quote, “Speak life and power”. Much love.
