If you’re like me, you often peruse Instagram in awe of the pure talent of makeup artists, from everyday looks to costume makeup. Many of these ladies are have incredible skills, and even if I know I can’t replicate the looks, they’re fun to watch. Well, 12-year old Aliyah is getting started on her craft early (if we only had Instagram 20 years ago!) and is KILLING IT. Seriously, this preteen can do makeup better than most adults. And for critics who don’t agree with a young girl doing full makeup, she doesn’t wear her makeup out of the house and often practices on her mom.

She has a variety of looks, and even does special effects makeup.

One of my favorite things about her videos is that she explains why she uses certain techniques and the intended effect they should have – this is something that a lot of beauty YouTubers lack but is extremely helpful to someone trying to recreate the look or learn about makeup application. Just look at this 80s-inspired tutorial – pure fierceness!

Mad skills?
YAS GIRL!
Yesterday, I took my daughter who’ll be 4 in March to Ulta for the first time. She had A LOT of fun swatching make up…particularly the Anatasia Glow Kit. She had a lot of fun swatching lipsticks, lip liners, eye shadows, etc. Make up is a craft and has taken a lot of men and women far. If my daughter develops a love for make up, I dont want to inhibit her regardless of how young or old she is.
My mother vehemently denying me the pleasure of learning about make up until I was 16 gave me a bit of a complex I ended up demonizing it for years because I internalized her denial as protection. And being protected made me think “from what” thereby causing me to be afraid of it. Lol long weird story but even now I don’t like wearing it and I am awful at it. I think it’s ok to teach young girls and let them play and practice for when they are old enough. My mom actually told me later that she regretted the way she handled it cause she really wanted me to wear makeup when I was old enough.
Such a talented young person – hope she does well!
isn’t Instagram 13 and older ._.
She does have amazing skills and I’d love to have her practice on me…but I’m glad to hear she doesn’t wear makeup outside the house. I guess I’m just old-school…I believe girls (especially OUR girls) should get to be girls as long as they possibly can.
She looks beautiful, may watch her video. Just concerned that she’s followed by perverts, but her parents have probably got that in hand (what a world … )
She has skills! She’s Awesome!
Work baby girl. I hope she flourishes doing what she loves.
