Sade's Child Comes Out as a Transgender Man

Singer Sade’s child, Mickailia “Ila” Adu, officially came out as a transgender man yesterday. There had been speculation since the early spring that the 20 year-old was transitioning, but nothing was confirmed. Mickailia, who was openly lesbian before transitioning, shared the news on his Instagram account with a lot of excitement.

There is no word on what Mickailia’s name will be now that he identifies as male. Mickailia is Sade’s only child. Sade took a 10-year-break from music following the release of her album Lovers Rock to raise Mickailia with Jamaican producer Bob Morgan, the baby’s father and her then-partner.

  1. Why is it so difficult for people of colour to be suportive without bringing religion and status into any given scenario. I am happy he has the support of his family ( yes his mamma has no issues with this) many individuals transitioning do so without the support of family.

  2. It’s not about Sade. It’s about the person her son wants to be and his right to feel himself in his skin. For many trans people, transitioning is a matter of life or death. Sade can have a dead daughter or a happy son.

  3. Damn shame! As beautiful as Sade is and as beautiful as her daughter was, shes gonna diss her mama like that because she FEELS like a boy? Sad.

  4. Good luck to you brother. I hope sade is supportive and is just glad her child is living his life happy and free.

  5. If that makes her happy so be it. That’s between her and God. I have enough of my own sins to answer too.
